(Okay, here goes!)

It was a very boring day. In fact it was so far a very boring week! I had been raining for three days nonstop. John sat by the window next to the stairs, and sighed.

"John", his mother said, "Why are you just sitting there? Don't you have something to do, like read a book?",

He pointed to a tall stack of books in the corner. "I've read almost every book in this house, and the others just don't look interesting".

"Well what about a board game to play?", his mother replied.

He pointed to a stack of games in another corner. "I think we've played every game we have", he exclaimed in exasperation.

His mother started to go up the stairs "There must be another game around here somewhere", she said, "and since your brother and sister are out shopping with your dad I'll play with you."

"Okay, Mom." He was just about to follow her up the stairs, when a flash of light lit up the sky. "lightning? In the day?" John said to himself, "It usually comes at night." He soon realized that it wasn't lightning, for it lasted way longer. After ten seconds he exclaimed, "What's happening?"

(Sorry if I have really bad punctuation. It has always been my nemesis when it came to English. :))

(I'll fix it. :) lol)

A man with a dark hood scuried along down the rain drenched street. He steeped quietly into a small shop on the side of the alley. He flipped his hood back revealing a head of short cut blond hair and a worried pair of blue eyes. His son, Josiah, glanced up from the counter of their family owned business.
"Looks like the rains not done yet son."
"the maid say we better hurry." Said Josiah with an equally worried look on his face.

Um.. Did you see how I started the story? This doesn't seem to flow with it, unless we skipped to another part of the story.

(Yeah it's a cut. :) you part was like the prelude then we cut to something else. :) it makes it more intense. :) )

(Going back to the first cut, if you don't mind… :D)

As the light continued to pulsate, John raced to the front door and threw it open. His jaw dropped as he saw a perfectly vertical, five-foot-wide beam of electricity reaching all the way down from the clouds to the middle of his front yard. He stood frozen on the porch as he watched the beam in astonishment.

Suddenly, the light vanished. Where the beam had been shining down, a small ditch had appeared, out of which was pouring large amounts of smoke. John, hardly able to believe his eyes, made up his mind to see what was in the ditch. But before he could move a muscle, four blue beams of light similar to the first one shot down from the sky. He jumped back.

After a few seconds, these beams disappeared as well, and in their place stood four human-like creatures that seemed to be made out of ice. They scowled and approached the ditch. One of them reached down and pulled out a panting young boy.

"So, you thought you could get away, did you?" it said.

The boy gasped, "Well… I had hoped so."

"Well, you failed. And now, you will come with us!"

"Please, no! I didn't mean to do what I did."

"We don't care. You will be severely punished for your mistake."

(Well, if you look at what Ian said the story plot could be, I think this goes along pretty well with it. :) (See last page.) )

I think it has a bit too much special effects. Try something more Narnia-ish, like going into the woods and falling into a pool, or something.

(Back to the second cut)

Suddenly a great gust of wind hit the store and shattered the windows. Josiah ducked behind the counter, but his father was not so lucky. He was thrown into the back of the store and was knocked unconscious. After the wind stopped, Josiah looked over the counter and exclaimed, "What was that?". He looked down and saw a young girl on the floor. Just then three human-like figures that looked like ice walked in, and he ducked behind the counter again.

(Hmm… these two cuts are lookin' pretty similar… :D
Anyways, I might as well go back to the first cut again. :P)

John, though still reeling from the implausibility of the situation unfolding before him, felt sympathetic for the kid. What could he have done to deserve being treated like this by these creatures?

One of the ice figures picked up the boy by the neck with one hand and formed a dagger of ice in the other.

"No! Please, no!" the boy pleaded.

The figure drew back his arm and looked like he was going to stab the boy with the dagger. John couldn't stand still any longer.

"Stop!" he shouted, running off the porch.

The creature stopped in mid-motion and stared at John.

"Who are you?" it growled.

"That doesn't matter!" John exclaimed "What has he done that's so bad?"

The ice seemed to melt from the creature, revealing a teenage girl wearing close-fitting blue robes. She had black hair in a high ponytail, high cheekbones, and a scowl framed an otherwise friendly face.

"I do not know who you are," the girl said "But let his death be an example to those who would break our Tribe's rules!"

SavedByGrace

(Oh, that's good. Perfect, Sam!! :D)

"But does he have to die? Isn't there a better way to resolve this?"

The girl glared. "None of this is any concern of yours. I advise that you step away before something happens to you."

John wasn't sure what to do. He was in no position to continue arguing with these… things… but he couldn't just let the boy get killed! The girl encased herself in ice again and picked up the boy.

"Now, to finish you off," she growled as she reformed the dagger in her hand. Once again she pulled her hand back to run the boy through. John couldn't just stand back and watch. Even if he got himself killed, he had to try to help this poor boy.

He stepped toward the creatures, put both hands forward, and yelled at the top of his lungs, "STOP!"

Immediately the ground began to rumble. In a few seconds the rumbling grew to a violent shake. The ice girl's eyes widened, and she looked down with surprise at the ground. She turned to look at John, but she was promptly hurled down onto the ground before she could. The ice broke off of all the creatures as the ground continued to rock. Then suddenly, the shaking stopped as quickly as it had begun.

One of them, a boy, looked up at John in horror. "You–you can't be…"

Another immediately scrambled to his feet, shouted "I'm outta here!" and shot up into the sky in a blue beam of light. The others stood staring at John for a few more seconds, then quickly followed their comrade.

John stepped toward the boy, who was staring at him in horror from the ground.

"Are you alright?" he asked, extending his hand toward the boy

The boy turned, and with a yelp of terror bolted away from him.

John looked at his hands, and noticed for the first time that they were trembling. He held them to his face in a vain attempt to stop the shaking. What had just happened? Had he caused the earth tremors that had dispersed the girl and her companions?

He looked up, and noticed a pagoda in the distance.

(A… pagoda?? Whatever. I'll work with it. :P)

John squinted his eyes. What in the world was that thing doing there? He had certainly never seen it before. Somehow he felt drawn to it; something in him wanted to run to it to see what it was.

But he was suddenly jerked out of his thoughts by a shout. "John! What are you doing out here?" his mother shouted from the doorway. "Didn't you feel what just happened? Get inside!"

John hid his trembling hands behind his back. "Uh… yeah, I'm coming!"

He followed his mother inside. She turned to him with confusion in her eyes. "This area has practically never had an earthquake. Why… how…" She put her hand over her eyes. "This makes no sense. I just hope there's no aftershock."

John just nodded. He couldn't tell her what he had just seen; she'd never believe him. But his mind was not on his mother anyway. Somehow he couldn't stop thinking about that strange structure he had seen in the distance. What was it? Why did he feel so drawn to it? He had to find out.

(Pagodas are ancient Japanese houses! Wikipedia it!)

John went up to his room. He paced the floor. He still didn't understand what had happened, but he knew that he was somehow connected to it.

He waited until his mother had gone to bed, then snuck back to outside, to the very spot where he had seen the lightning. The storm still raged, and his shoes made small sploshing sounds in the wet earth.

"This is where I saw those people!" John thought "And where the earthquake happened. How did they get here…..and where did they go? And-"

An further thought was cut off, as a bolt of lightning struck the ground in front of him. He saw a bright light, felt himself falling, and knew no more.

(I know what a pagoda IS, it just didn't seem to fit! But whatever. :P)

John awoke with a start. He was instantly aware that he was laying on some kind of soft mattress. He slowly turned his head around the room and realized that this was not a place he had ever seen before. The room was small, and everything seemed to be made of wood: the floor, walls, and ceiling; a chair and table, and the bed he lay on were all oaken.

He slowly sat up. For a few seconds he was completely confused, but then he thought back to the last thing he remembered. Had the same thing happened to him that had happened to the strange people he had seen? Had he been somehow transported to the place they came from?

Suddenly a door at the far end of the room opened. A kind-looking young lady with dazzling blonde hair and flowing, bright yellow robes stepped in.

"Ah, you are finally awake," she said with a large smile. "You were asleep for quite some time."

(Um, how many Asians have blonde hair?)

John turned toward her with a start, then relaxed.

"Where am I?" he asked "And who are you? And-"

"Enough." the woman touched her index and middle fingers to her lips in a gesture of silence. "You need rest."

She turned and walked out, returning in a minute with a tray, laden with a bowl, a small kettle, and a small cup.

(Um, maybe those that aren't Asian? :P And perhaps her power requires that she looks like that…?)

"You are likely very hungry. You slept for an entire day."

John noticed for the first time that he WAS very hungry. He took the tray from her hands and thanked her.

He glanced down at the bowl and saw that it was filled with a rather thick, brownish liquid. It smelled delicious. He picked up the spoon and took a bite. It was one of the most delectable things that had ever touched his tongue. It was quite warm, but not hot enough to burn. With spoonful after spoonful, he finished the bowl in no time.

The woman watched him with a smile. She took the kettle and poured some of its contents into the cup. "This will strengthen you," she said. "It's a special mix of herbs."

John thanked her again and took a sip. This also was one of the best things he had ever tasted. In a few seconds after finishing it, he felt strangely rejuvenated.

"Thank you very much," he said. "Now… may I ask a question?"

"Go ahead."

"Where exactly am I?"

(It's all Nic's fault!)

"You are in the house of Le-Anata, leader of the Lightning Clan." the woman said "I am Lo-Ela, his first daughter."

"Lightning Clan?!?" John exclaimed "What is this? Did I stumble into some cosplay, or LARP?"

The Lo-Ela looked at him, confused. "I do not know what….cosplay, or LARP is. You obviously need to rest. I will leave you for now."

She silently left the room, and John was left alone with his thoughts.

(Ahem! "Nick" is spelled with a "k", dude! And what do you mean it's my fault? This works, doesn't it??

BTW, I checked Wikipedia to see what "cosplay" and "LARP" are… very funny, Sam, very funny… :P)

John pondered his situation. He was in a strange place with strange people, and he had no idea how or why he was there. What was he supposed to do? Just sit here until someone came and told him what was going on?

He began to consider seeing what was outside the door, in spite of what Lo-Ela had said, but suddenly the door opened again. A familiar face shyly peeked at John, then slowly stepped in.

"It's you!" John exclaimed. "You're the one who almost got killed by those ice… people."

"Yes," the boy said with a shy smile, "I am the one. I decided to come and see you… and to thank you."

"Well, you're welcome–but I'm still not even sure what I did! Was I the one who made the ground shake like that?"

"I can think of no other explanation. And also, when the earthquake came, I saw something in your face that I have only seen in ancient books."

"What on earth are you talking about?"

"As soon as the shaking started, your face suddenly changed; it turned dusty brown, grew slightly larger, and… strange cracks formed all over it."

"You're joking, right? That couldn't have happened."

"I know I wasn't seeing things, because when the members of the Ice Clan saw it, they were practically scared out of their minds! And they don't get frightened that easily."

John sighed. "So, you're telling me that I have some sort of special power?"

"Not just any special power. You have a power that has not been given to anyone for over eight hundred years."

I think you misunderstood me, and I didn't explain it very well. I said it was "kinda" like that except with way more powers (Being able to talk to animals, mind-reading, shape-shifting, etc.).

(I really don't want this to be based off of Avatar. That just puts it way to close to magic. Also I didn't mean for them to live in clans. I meant for all of them (except the bad guys) to live in one big group, not little clans like this.)

(Hey Sam, sorry if I'm being little picky about this there's just some things in here that I don't like. Please don't continue the clan thing, one of the themes wanted to be in here was one mind in Christ, and putting clans in separates everybody. Again sorry if I'm a little picky.)

@Ian - (I agree that the clans shouldn't be completely separated, but then is it just a few people with, say, lightning powers, and not a whole clan?)
