What Bible version do you use for BB and other? Why? What do you like about it? How long have you used the version you do use for?
biblebee
We use the ESV. We use it because everybody in our church who is competing uses it and so we all wanted to use the same version. It is okay but I personally like the KJV better. We started using ESV in 2011 for Bible Bee and have used it ever since. Before that though we were using NASB and KJV.

I have used NIV all my life, and, until recently, was planning on using it for the rest of it. :) But the Bible Bee took that translation out, so I decided to use the ESV and memorize from that for as long as I can. No particular reason; I really don't have any reason for picking that one instead of any other. :)

KJV! We used NIV for a while, but "officially" switched to King James in '09 when we signed up for Bible Bee. We had sort of switched to using KJV more a while before that, but that was when we completely made up our minds.
I think it's easier to memorize KJV too, but I don't know if it's just that I'm used to it, or what.

Been KJV for as long as I can remember…. It's a rather long discussion… But it's an amazing translation!
God's Maiden of Virtue
I used the NIV in the 2010 and 2011 Bible Bees, but switched to NKJV in 2012- and am sticking to it! Though, now I'm the only one in my family using NKJV for the Bible Bee (rats!). Outside of Bible Bee, I had always been a mix of NIV and NKJV, but now very rarely use NIV.
2 Corinthians 5:17
What's the rest of your family using?
Ian R.2
I personally prefer the ESV. I don't really know why I like it so much, I just do. I have always used it for the Bible Bee, and this will be my third year doing it.
Dani(elle)
I use ESV.
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
I use the NKJV! It is simple, yet also quite adherent to the original text. :)
Cow
Go NKJV!!! lol yeah I know what you mean :) my mom made us use it in the first year we competed, and we've been using it ever since. I love it, though :)
SavedByGrace
Everyone but her in our family is using the ESV this year. :)
God's Maiden of Virtue
One thing I really like about the NKJV, is how it capitalizes all Deity pronouns. :)
Cow
Yes! And it italicizes the words that were added for understanding, so it's easy for me to read the passage without them and get an understanding of what the author was really trying to say. Sometimes I'll read it that way and be like, wow :)
admin
Yeah… KJV has italics too… I think it's quite nice to be able without as well..

I use ESV for everything. I have several reasons for doing so - not the least of which is the fact that everyone else in my family also uses it. I like it for a lot of reasons, one of which is because it does not capitalize what fallible translators imagine to be deity pronouns. (Sorry if that was too strong. Oh well.) I've used ESV for several years, probably four or five. Before that I used the NIV.
I wish, however, that it italicized added words…
EDIT: Oops. I use ESV for everything except my Bible reading. After reading both the ESV 2007 and 2011, I thought it would be nice to read something else - so I'm currently reading the NKJV.

I use King James… I haven't ever memorized in any other version. :)
ServantOfTheKing
I use the New King James Version. I like the modern language used in the NKJV, compared to the KJV. It seems pretty easy to memorize and read. I've used this version for a while. Any Bible I can get my hands on is wonderful. It's God's letter to us!
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." -2 Timothy 3:16-17
Dani(elle)
Lol that was one of last years verses! :) lol
ServantOfTheKing
I know! :D It's a good one too! ;)
Dani(elle)
Yeah I memorized a couple of the verses last year just cause m brother was. :) this is my first year really doing it though! :)
ServantOfTheKing
Cool! You'll really enjoy it. I'm so excited for you!

Am I like the only one using NASB? I've memorized from that since I was little so I was used to it… :)

Our family began using the ESV this year due to the NIV being taken out of Bible Bee. Our Bible Quizzing program also switched from NIV to ESV and that is why we picked it. We had origanally been planned on moving to NASB.
Aidan B.
We used to use NIV, and that's what we've read and memorized in since were were little kids, but since the Bible Bee can't do that one anymore, we've had to switch to ESV.
Charge901
I use the NKJV.
2 Corinthians 5:17
How are those that switched to a different version because of NIV being removed from BB doing in their memorization? Was it harder or easier than you excepted?
Sarah
We switched from the NIV to the ESV in 2012. Really, the only place where I've had problems is when I've had to memorize a passage that I already had memorized in the NIV, such as Ephesians 6:10-18 in 2012. Of course, it really doesn't help that the ESV is the closest version to the NIV that the Bible Bee uses. :-)
Sarah B.
I use NKJV…. I know, my KJV friends bombard me with criticism.
