Oral or Written?
Started by Hannah W. (Adelaide)Hannah W. (Adelaide)
This is a topic where you post all the great stuff about the Bible Bee Written and Oral rounds, which you like better and why you like it and all the other stuff about it! :D :D :D :D :D :D
Dani(elle)
Written. U don't have to speak. :-) lol I hate talking in front of people.
Rachel the Alaskan
hmm…That's hard….I like the orals because I usually can catch myself before I say a wrong word or else I know when it's wrong even after I say it.
Jarrett
oral!!!
Emily H
totally written. Orals is like 10 minutes of torture. :P I don't know why I have so much trouble with them, sense I generally don't mind giving speeches and doing public speaking… But the written is tons and tons better. Except for that I'm always worried I'm going to run out of time… :P But it's the same thing with orals.
Sarah
I like the Oral Rounds better. I have a photographic memory, so the memorizing has always been easier for me than the studying. But the Written is nice too, because if you think you've made a mistake, you can change your answer an unlimited number of times. Unless, of course, you spend the entire hour trying to figure out the answer to Question 1. :-)
Christine Daaé (Dani the Older)
Orals!
Ian R.2
Orals definitely. I don't like sitting still for an hour. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17

LOL…me too =D
Matthew Minica
I like orals better because it's so much easier to get a high score. :D

Yeah!!!! =D

WRITTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so much better than talking in front of people. And I'm never nervous for the written though I am for the orals.
Bethany Meckle
Orals! I feel way more comfortable with the memory verses than with the cross references and stuff like that. Although I like the written too…

Yup…
Hiruko Kagetane
I think they made the written for people who are good at memorizing, because they don't want you to just blast through into Nats. I'd rather do the Oral……………..if I can close my eyes. Last year, I knew all my verses, but froze up terribly in front of the judges.
Dani(elle)
Ouch. I'm so scared I'm gonna do that. At our practice bee I TTLY blanked on the end of one of the verses and I couldn't find it!!! I was like 'nnnnoo!!!' So yeah. But I only missed 2 questions on the 'mock' written test. But I had to take several educated guesses.
That's why I've been doing my verses for my parents and little brother when he'll cooperate :) lol I usually have to bribe him though. :) lol
I think it might help if u can get ur parents or sister to act like the judges every day and quiz u. I know it's already helped me a lot!!
2 Corinthians 5:17
In 2011 (my first year) As I was quoting my verses, the contestant judge was staring into my eyes as I quoted…I didn't really like that! :P So I would occasionally look at her, look at the wall, the floor, the door…you get the point :P :D
Dani(elle)
I though the contestant judges always looked at your eyes?? I do the same thing. :) at one point I looked at the ceiling. Yeah they probably though I was pretty weird. Lol
Ian R.2
I bet they thought I was weird when I closed my eyes and knit my eyebrows. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
Well, last year, my contestant judge didn't stare me in this eyes. She'd look at me, than at her paper, then at the clock…etc =D I liked that better :D
Jess
I've got to say that Orals are my favorite, probably because I love to talk in front of people. Also because you have a pretty good idea what they are going to ask, not like the written test.
Jarrett
i look right past them into the wall! =D
Hannah W. (Adelaide)
I'd have to say that I like the Oral better..maybe that's cause I like to talk :P!!!!!
Dani(elle)
Well there was a window behind them so I didn't want to get distracted. :)
Priscilla K.
I tend to look at the floor, or their table leg, or some other none moving object in the room. Although sometimes I feel like the floor is moving:)
Hannah W. (Adelaide)
I pace around and look at the floor…..do any of you pace? What do you do during oral? Talk with your hands, twiddle your thumbs….ect..ect.. :)
Emily H
No, I stand still, but I have to do something with my hands… I've pulled on my wristband, pinched myself (I didn't even realize it :P) and squeezed my hands together, and I don't know what else because I have no idea what I'm doing unless my mom tells me, and she doesn't watch me all the time. I'm usually okay during orals as long as I do something with my hands and stare at the judges' feet. :P Closing my eyes worked pretty well too.
Jess
I'm always playing with my hands, and looking all over the room. At home when I practice my verses I always pace, but not at Orals:)
Dani(elle)
They let u pace??!! They'd probably think I was a lunatic if I did that! Lol :)
Hiruko Kagetane
Well, since they allow you to sing your verses, maybe I should get some nice instrumental music and sing my verses and dance in front of them!
biblebee
Oh, Sam!!!
I didn't know that you could pace!! I pace whenever I memorize or review my verses but not at orals.
Ian R.2
Are we really allowed to pace?
2 Corinthians 5:17
LOL! I can just see you bringing a guitar or something to Locals! :P
I stand on one place, usually with my hands behind my back. :)
Hannah W. (Adelaide)
yes! We are allowed to pace! Me and my brother jimmy have done it every year of the BB. We find it helps!
Bethany Meckle

Ha ha! I'm not sure if the judge was looking at me or not because I was so busy staring at a corner of the ceiling. :D
Dani(elle)

R u really alowed to sing your verses?? Lol :) Did u read my comment to u however many pages ago it was? :)
MilesChristiSum
we had a piece of masking tape on the floor to stand on, makes you feel kinda like your being interrogated, or on a firing line… do you pace on the tape or do you have one?
Dani(elle)
Lol!
biblebee
@Dani: Yes, you are allowed to sing in oral rounds…but I don't think they would allow nice instrumental music :) :)
@MCS: We had a piece of masking tape on the floor for us
Hiruko Kagetane
Awwwww……………but I had the perfect 8-bit song!
Dani(elle)
facepalm that makes me think of the 8-bit music in Lego LOTR video game :) LOL! I love that music!
biblebee
The perfect one?? raises eyebrows
Bethany Meckle
I've been trying to get my brother to sing for orals - maybe you guys can convince him! :P
Dani(elle)
Lol. I feel like that would b embarissing lol even if u had a good voice. Ll
Bethany Meckle
Totally! He does, but still…
Plus, then he would make me do it and I so do not have a good singing voice!!!! :D
Dani(elle)
Lol :) how old is your brother?
Bethany Meckle
He's 12 - just about 13. Which is really scary, because I'm 2 years older but he's as tall as me and his voice is way deeper!!
Hiruko Kagetane
Well………..almost. Either an 8-bit version of an Owl City song, or maybe from a cartoon…………
Ian R.2
That's probably what my sister felt like when I was twelve. :)
biblebee
I don't quite think that is the "perfect" one :)
