I dunno… I just didn't remember. :P But it is pretty cool to be able to say that I'm related to Laura Ingalls Wilder. :D Being related to Benedict Arnold… not so much. :P
biblebee
Okay. Yeah it would be neat to say that about Laura Wilder but yeah…not Arnold.
SavedByGrace
Maybe if he had died a glorious death in some battle before his betrayal, it would be much better… :P
biblebee
Yeah…but he didn't……
EDIT: You know who I might be related too? I might be related to Roger Kirkpatrick who helped the Bruce kill Comyn during the Scottish wars.
SavedByGrace
Nope. :-/ Guess I've got to deal with it… sniff :P
biblebee
Yeah…you do :)
SavedByGrace
Grr. You must have the last word, mustn't you? :P JK
(In reply to your edit): That might mean more to me… if I had any knowledge regarding the Scottish wars. :}
biblebee
Yes, I must :) :)
Yeah, most people have not studied the Scottish wars much so they don't really know who that would be. But to me the Scottish wars are fascinating!
SavedByGrace
I've just never come across them in my school studies. But I'm planning on getting a much better idea of the history of our world as I get older…
biblebee
Yeah…I didn't learn most of it from my school. I just read lots of books on them. And as you study more history on your own you have got to read about them. They are so interesting!
SavedByGrace
I'll be sure to do that. :) There are so many things I wish I knew about history, but right now I just don't have the time to study up on them. Good thing I've (Lord willing, of course) got a few more years left in my life to do that. ;)
biblebee
There are so many things I wish I knew about history as well!! It just is so interesting!
SavedByGrace
Not only is history extremely interesting, but the more we learn about the mistakes or successes made in the past, the better we are able to make the same successes and refrain from the same mistakes. :)
biblebee
Yup…that is also another reason why I like to study it :)
SavedByGrace
One other intriguing thing about history is how God always protects His church, through all the ages. Sometimes true Christians are in an extremely small minority, but they always endure, and Christianity always remains. It's the same thing with the Bible; it's fascinating to study how God has preserved His Word through all these centuries! :)
biblebee
I know!!!!!! That's the other thing I really like to learn about…the history of Christ's church!!! God will always prevail no matter what!!!!!!!

Cooooool!!!! (uh, er, I mean neat!!! :P) I remember just remember enough about that to know that's really neat!!!! :P
2 Corinthians 5:17
We're related to someone who signed the Declaration of Independence, but I can't remember who it was :P
EDIT: It was William Hooper :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
You're related to Laura Ingalls?!?!!!! How???
God's Maiden of Virtue (Bible Bee)
Okay let's see….how to explain this…. Our grandma (our mom's mom), comes from the Arnold family (her maiden name), and apparently one of the Arnolds had some kind of close relation to Laura (she was like an aunt or great-aunt or something). So yeah, it's pretty neat. :)
EDIT: Oops. I forgot I was still on my Bible Bee account. :} Technically I shouldn't be on here talking (self-discipline…..)…. sorry.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Wow, so neat! :)
Hiruko Kagetane
I'm related to the greatest guy I know! We're so close, I even call him "dad"!
BREAKING NEWS! It's...ah...nobody important. nevermind.

biblebee
Neat!!! I'm Swedish as well! :)

To me too! Most of what I know I know from G. A. Henty's book on them, though! :-P
biblebee

Know about what?
Courtney M.
About the Scottish wars…
Sorry. Was that a delayed response? :-P
biblebee
Oh, okay.
It's fine.

Someone posted here and then deleted their post…

To me too! Most of what I know I know from G. A. Henty's book on them, though! :-P
Ohhh! You like G. A. Henty books?!
Courtney M.
YES!!! I'm assuming you do too? :P
Bethany Meckle
Mine could be weird and long. Should I do it???
Courtney M.
Yes. :)

Like I said on SC, I won't be on the forums again until after BB. But since I promised…
On my mom's side - my great-grandma came to America from Germany when she was two. She had fifteen/sixteen kids (including my grandma and her twin)! My grandparents had four kids and each of them has two kids (the cousins range in age from 23 - 4 mo.).
On my dad's side - his dad is full German, and his mom was full Norwiegen. So I'm 1/4 Norweigen and 3/4 German. Grandpa had thirteen siblings, and some of them had ten kids! Dad has seven living siblings, a half brother, a half sister, a step brother, and a step sister. There are a LOT of Meckles!!! :D
Courtney M.
Wow, interesting! Haha, that would be funny to have a grandparent with a twin. :D
Aw, only two kids each? Too bad. :P
It's kind of confusing though, because even though in my family there might be a lot of Bakers or Minicas, there've been a lot of last name switches. :P
Bethany Meckle
Wow, interesting! Haha, that would be funny to have a grandparent with a twin. :D
Um… yeah. "Grandma, why are you writing to yourself?!?!" I just about said that a few times! :P It's awesome. :D
Courtney M.
Haha! Wait…how could you think she was writing to herself?
Bethany Meckle
Their handwriting's the same. :P So you look at the address, think it's Grandma's handwriting - and it really looks like she's writing to herself! :D
Courtney M.
Oh, that's so funny! I wouldn't have even thought about twins' handwriting being the same. xP
Courtney M.
Is it the duty of family historians to recount without personal discernment the lives of those who went before? Or do you just not mention certain things that would give that person a bad reputation in the eyes of those who go after? The Bible says to speak no evil of any man. But my personal perspective is that I like to think about heritage names. I want to name my children after godly people. How can I do that if the historian hides certain things about a person, thinking they don't need to be mentioned? I like people to be honest with me, and I need to be so with them. Where do you draw the line?
Courtney M.
Mehitable Munn Orcutt. Born in 1779, died in 1845. My great great great great great grandma.
:D
Sarah
Wow, that's quite the name! I wonder how many of her acquaintances ever forgot her name? xD
Courtney M.
Haha, yeah. xD
Sarah B.
You are doing the BB, right? What do you think? The disciples Simon, and Andrew (fisher men) were sons of Jonah who got swallowed by a big fish??
Courtney M.
Yes, I'm doing the BB, but I'm not sure I understood your question. xP The disciples Simon and Andrew were brothers, fisher men, but they weren't sons of Jonah, and they didn't get swallowed by a big fish. :P
Sarah B.
Okay, well, the Bible says that Simon what a son of Jonah… so was he called the "son of Jonah" kind of like Jesus was called the "son of David"?
