I have to go now. Bye guys!
biblebee
Where was your post to me?
biblebee
Bye Ian!
@Sam: Will you please answer my question!!!?!?!?!?!?! Was I being harsh???
Hiruko Kagetane
See ya later!
@Cari ~ No.
I'm'a leaving. Bye.
biblebee
Okay.
Bye Sam!
Sarah B.
It was a really good idea to bring the Christmas discussion on to the SC#7! It looks to me like the only people really debating on the TD topic on this subject are the people who don’t think we should celebrate that holiday. When my family stopped celebrating Christmas and Easter my dad decided that it was not good that we where not celebrating anything. Celebration is a way of remembering things and is very important! So he decided to replace those holidays with the more biblical Jewish holidays. :)
last page. :)
biblebee
There is no use bringing people to Christ if we leave Christ out of it. But why use a pagan holiday to bring people to Christ? We are to be in this world not of this world. And just FTR Christmas is not remotely related to a pagan holiday. Even in the 19th century on Christmas day Jews were being persecuted. It is a pagan religion from the very beginning and still is…because most people don't celebrate Christmas because of Christ…it's just another holiday. So why would Christ want to be associated with something such as Christmas?
BTW I'll post this over on the TD forums :)
biblebee
Oh, okay. Yeah :) I think though that I am going to post this discussion on the TD forum so that people can see it ;-)
Sarah B.
It is hard to debate with people who agree with you. lol! (sorry if you don’t like the word “debate” I couldn’t think of a better word at the moment)
biblebee
Totally! And debate is fine :)
Sarah B.
Lol Okay, I just remember that some of my Christian friends where like “Debate? What made you think we were debating? We don’t debate!” and they where serious! So I learned to call it “deep discussion” around them. :)
biblebee
LOL!! Debate is fine here :)
EDIT: There! It's posted!
Sarah B.
Good! Hopefully tomorrow I will be ready to join in the debate… I have a good foundation for my essay now. :) What would you think if I jumped in and acted as if I celebrated Christmas just for the sake of a better debate… you know what I mean? Tried to help you guys dig deep. I don’t know that I’d be very good at it (I’d have to try to come up with a really good character fiercely defending my holiday)… what do you think?
Hiruko Kagetane
And now you're implying our argument is "the devil's argument", as you trying to step in as a "devil's advocate". Thanks for that.
biblebee
Well, that would work but I don't know if we need you to. So far I think that you and I are the only ones on here who don't celebrate Christmas…so I think we have enough people who do celebrate Christmas. Hopefully tonight Nicolas and Christian will get on and add their voice to the discussion. But of course if you want to you can! :)
biblebee
You're Back! :) And she is not saying that! She's not trying to be a "devil's advocate". She is just trying to get the discussion going!
Sarah B.
Whatever… never mind! I won’t do it. (sometimes you remind me of someone I know…)
biblebee
Sarah…just wondering…what denomination are you?
Sarah B.
Yeah, I was just starting to think that too! :)
Edit:I don’t have one really. My mom was Presbyterian, dad was Grace Brethren. I think we lean toward Baptist mostly. :)
Hiruko Kagetane
The purpose of taking the other side of an argument is, presumably, to find discrepancies in their thinking and expose them. Which is why it's called being a "devil's advocate".
Here's the Wikipedia answer:
Devil's advocate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see Devil's advocate (disambiguation).
In common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who, given a certain argument, takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with, for the sake of debate. In taking this position, the individual taking on the devil's advocate role seeks to engage others in an argumentative discussion process. The purpose of such process is typically to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure, and to use such information to either improve or abandon the original, opposing position.
biblebee
But that's not why she would be doing it! She would just do it to get the discussion going…since none of you who do think that Christmas is good is discussing it! She's not doing it to find discrepancies or expose y'all!
biblebee
Okay :)
Hiruko Kagetane
That's why I revived the Music thread. See what happened?
biblebee
Wait…you revived the music thread and a big discussion started…what does that have to do with being a "devil's advocate"???????????
Hiruko Kagetane
sigh
And once again, you do not follow my train of thought. What did you just post…………:
"She would just do it to get the discussion going"
And we had a huge argument that benefited nobody, and those of us who were on a particular side of the argument were accused of sinning and promoting the spread of sin. I just don't want another argument like that again.
Jackson
Whoa! Is this bold?
EDIT: Cool! Hi guys!
biblebee
Sorry. I'm really sorry for not following your train of thought. I'll try to do better in the future.
True. Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, I do not want another argument like that. Which is why we'll have Sarah not do that. Okay?
biblebee
Yup! :) Hey Jackson!
Hiruko Kagetane
You have our opinions. Jimmy said he will also be writing a paper on why we should celebrate Christmas. You have all of the "pro-Christmas" opinions you need.
Hiruko Kagetane
Yeah, It added a new dimension to our RPing over on Brickmaster 2.0. :P
biblebee
But that might take him a little bit. And we like to hear what others say…not just one person….
Sarah B.
It will give a whole new meaning to Deadpool and Noah! :P Instead of what Deadpool says being in stars it will be bold…
Jackson
Haha! (does RP stand for Role Playing?)
Hiruko Kagetane
You heard Ian's and mine. That's two.
Hiruko Kagetane
Yeah, it does! :)
biblebee
Whatever. You don't have to get involved if you don't want to get involved.
Hiruko Kagetane
smiles
And now you're annoyed. Fun. I never said don't have the discussion, only don't treat us as the enemy.
biblebee
How do you know that I am annoyed?
Was I ever treating you as the enemy???
Hiruko Kagetane
You were very curt in your answer.
And, no, you weren't. But, with the Music discussion, that's what ended up happening. We on one side were, as I said, accusesed of sinning and promoting sin, and treated like we were the enemy in the argument. I didn't like that, as we're a community here. So, sorry if I've been demeaning of you, and your want to have a discussion, but I don't want something like that to happen again.
GTG. Bye! :)
In It Not Of It
Bye Sam.. hi Carissa!
Bethany Meckle
Hi!
biblebee
I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have been curt. Will you please forgive? And yes I was getting annoyed.
Okay, I didn't like that either. Hopefully this discussion will not turn into something like that. No! You havn't been demeaning of me at all! I was the one who was getting annoyed…you were being fine. Again I'm very sorry.
Bye Sam! TTYL!
biblebee
Hey Stefani and Bethany!
Bethany Meckle
How's school going?
biblebee
Good. You?
In It Not Of It
Hi Bethany!
Bethany Meckle
Not too bad.. Hi Stefani!
Bethany Meckle
If you don't mind - what grade are you two in?
biblebee
10Th. You?
Gtg
Bethany Meckle
Uh… 9th. And 10th. Depends on what subject. One of the beauties of homeschooling, I guess! ;)
