Haven't been on here for a while, but I thought I'd post here. :) I have both read and watched the Hunger Games. They really aren't as bad as some people think. The story itself uses violence to speak against violence, to state it simply. As SavedByGrace pointed out, the good characters only kill to defend, and the bad characters are denounced for their violence and cruelty. And the good characters are certainly admirable for their courage and loyalty. All HG fans know what Katniss so unselfishly did to save her sister. Peeta wouldn't allow the Capitol to change him into what he was not. Cinna boldly made a statement against the tyranny of the Capitol, although it cost him dearly. And much, much more that couldn't all be listed. Also, in our world today, we see many of the struggles exemplified in the world of Panem. I won't describe these in detail here, but if you've read the books or seen the movies, you'll understand. ;)
Thank you for that. I actually read a summary for HG when the books first came out, and I wanted to read them, but bad press killed my desire. I just might look into them now.

May I have a cookie with my virus?
Abigail Rose
If it had a virus her computer scanner would catch it and not let her watch it, or even go to the website.
Hiruko Kagetane
I apologize. But, most of the time, such links are home to all sorts to viruses and malware.
Abigail Rose
Yea they are most the time
Hiruko Kagetane
And, most of the time, they appear in comment boxes on the website known as "YouTube".

Now that I've read the first Hunger Games book, I can tell you my reaction.
It was awesome. :)
I can honestly say, all claims of the Hunger Games books glorifying violence are unfounded and misguided. The books never glorify any killings, and the only characters who enjoy the fighting are bad. I loved the character development in the book, you really got to get into Katniss' head and see how she thinks, which is always a good thing in a book. Overall, I'd recommend them to anyone 12 and up. :)

I agree, except for the age part. I only say this because the second and third books contain stuff that is not appropriate for kids 12 or 13, and when you finish the first, you will really want to get your hands on the second. I'd say 14 and up is a better age range. :)

Like the stuff about relationships ;) I've read and watched 1&2. The movies were quite boring to me though…

Okay she might have read it, but does it make it appropriate for kids her age?

I agree with Ian but I think age itself can be a poor meter sometimes it depends mostly on maturity in certain areas.
