You do it to yourself. :P

I correct my own spelling? Oh okay. Pretty cool, huh? :D

To be fully honest, I am glad.
Why?
There are times when an exclamation point is needed, and when you restrict yourself as you did, it can make you look more indifferent than perhaps you intend. I don't know if you ran into this problem, but I can see myself running into it.
True, but least it didn't seem like I was yelling every sentence. Besides, I am pretty indifferent to start with.
Which is why it is not best to use exclamation points in every sentence. But, if you wish to convey a slight sense of indifference to match your personality, go right ahead. I suppose that frequent exclamation points are not for everyone.

Preferably I would be a good enough wordsmith that I could convey non-indifference without exclamation marks. The best writers use them very rarely.

Indeed so. However, I consider conversation as quite drastically different than story writing; there is more room for emotion and excitement.

True, the rare exclamation marks in stories written by the best authors are, in fact, usually in conversations.

Narration is not typically exciting; or if it is, it uses colorful wording to convey the excitement, not extreme punctuation. There is something much different about conversing.

This conversation seems a lot more like philosophizing on life than conveying excitement to the reader. (If I put an exclamation mark at the end of that sentence it would seem misplaced.)

Remember the bit about punctuation in the Jonah Sword Study?

She said that one couldn't overuse exclamation points. It was then that I realized why we have such different takes on life.

As in, it is impossible to overuse them, or unwise? Assuming the former, I am inclined to think that she does not have much experience writing.
