Hey! How are you?
ZachB
Doin' good how 'bout u?
M. W.
Hello, people!
ZachB
Hola, Marija!
M. W.
Hey, Zach! What's going on?
ZachB
Just the normal stuff that happens when you are camping during Bible Bee: get up, eat breakfast, play the hermit to do SG, eat lunch, play the hermit again to upload SG privately to Quizlet, take a break to hangout and eat supper, then back to hermitville to study the SG online, then later on I'll head back out to hang at the campfire. You?
M. W.
Normal stuff. Like breathing. ;P
ZachB
That's it? Just breathing? You heart wasn't beating? You brain wasn't thinking? You didn't eat or drink? How dreadful!
M. W.
Yep. The only thing I did today was exercise my lungs. And I also studied, ate, drank, studied, and other stuff….
ZachB
Oh! You were beginning to have me worried!
M. W.
xD Are you done debating about Frozen?
ZachB
Hopefully, unless Nathan decides to give it another shot.
M. W.
How is camping going?
ZachB
My first post to you today is my usual routine xP
it's been fun for the time I haven't been staying in the camper studying. I'll have to get off in 10 min or so though for s'mores around the campfire with family.
M. W.
I have to go to bed soon, too, so I should probably go… Goodnight! :P
ZachB
'k goodnight!

So you're like trying to squelch my freedom of speech? Just because you think its a good movie doesn't make it a good movie and doesn't mean I can't say it's a movie I wouldn't recommend watching. And as one who has not experienced my imagination, I don't think you can say I haven't come up with a reasonable depiction of it ;P
Just because you have freedom of speech doesn't mean there aren't unwise things to say. And I never said you had to recommend it. You can go around telling people it doesn't sound like something you'd recommend. But saying it's bad is another issue, because there are so many explanations you just have to see it for yourself to know–Proverbs 18:13. It's not like Fifty Shades of Grey, where you only have to read a few facts to know that the plot and content are inherently wrong.
No; as someone who has seen the movie, say you haven't come up with a reasonable depiction.
James C.
peeks head back in
Nathan?? Or anyone else?

I could say the same thing about your arguing for Frozen, that it's an unwise use of your freedom of speech, couldn't I.
Of course it isn't as bad as Fifty Shades Of Grey, but it's not good. And since you haven't read the book (which I haven't either, and won't, just for the record), how do you know it's bad? Can you really trust the reviews? I mean, if you think I can't make a reasonable judgement about Frozen based on the reviews, how can you make a reasonable judgment about Fifty Shades Of Grey based on its reviews? I mean, you haven't even read it! And why won't you or I read it? Because the reviews describe it as a bad book. And we believe the reviews! That's the purpose of the reviews! Same thing with Frozen.
And regarding Proverbs 18:13, I am not making judgments about a matter before I read about the matter, so the verse is not applicable to this situation.
You haven't opened my brain and seen what I have imagined, so you can not say that I haven't come up with a reasonable depiction.
Keirstin
EATS POPCORN. You guys still talking about Frozen?❄️
Nathan Wright: Impersonator Hunter
No you couldn't say the same thing, because I'm the one who's actually seen it.
Well, I was actually talking about the movie adaptation that came out early this year. But ALL reviews, positive and negative, and the MPAA certificate (not that we can trust their judgment, but the rating reasons do give facts) will tell you that there is graphic nudity and sexual scenes. This is enough to know that it's bad. It's not just one of many interpretations.
No, I haven't opened your brain; but you've told me your depiction. And since I've seen the movie, I can tell you it's not correct.
ZachB
Well, it wouldn't be any wiser to say that Frozen is good movie that to say that it's a bad movie.
Yes, that is true regarding Fifty Shades Of Grey, but why should we believe the reviews of Fifty Shades Of Grey over those of Frozen? Just because MPAA lists something as having this or that shouldn't affect the reliability of the reviews. "Official" movie reviewers have listed bad movies as good before and vice versa. All reviews say that Fifty Shades Of Grey has graphic nudity and sexual scenes, and this tallies with the consistency of the reviews, so we can believe that. However, there are many differences arising between Frozen reviews. And by pitting the reviews against them in debate form, the anti-Frozen reviews would win the pseudo-debate. Most movies have good points, and most movies have good points, and I consider Frozen to have enough bad points to make it not something worth watching.
Have I really told you my depiction of Frozen? I don't recall having done that on this debate.
Nathan Wright: Impersonator Hunter
If you had seen Frozen, I wouldn't say it was unwise for you to publicly condemn it.
See, that's the thing. Frequently, the positive side wins the debate! I've seen it happen time and again. You're making sweeping assumptions.
If you haven't told me your depiction, what have you told me? You've told me you think it promotes disobedience to parents and that the plot is bad. If that's not your depiction, what is? What you've told me is sufficient for me to know that you're a least partially wrong. You've said it promotes disobedience, and I know that's wrong.
ZachB
So it's unwise for my to publicly condemn it when I have not seen it? Then it must also be unwise to condemn a certain car because many reviews say it has significant issues. I mean, we haven't even bought driven the car a few thousand miles to verify the reviews. But c'mon, that's what reviews are for! To prevent us from making decisions we would later regret. That's why we blindly don't go and read Fifty Shades Of Grey. That's why we don't go and buy a car when multiple reviews say it has problems.
Frequently, a good team wins the debate, regardless of being on the affirmative or negative team. And as to sweeping assumptions, I don't think I have been doing any more than you have been.
What I have been telling you is from the plot which I have read, and stuff about it given me by people who have watched the movie. Unless, of course, those people are lying and are guessing what the movie is about, and have not actually watched it, which is highly unlikely.
Nathan Wright: Impersonator Hunter
If there are conflicting reviews about a car–some love it, some hate it–then all we should tell people about it is that there are conflicting reviews, if we've never driven it ourselves. At most, we could tell people that we wouldn't be comfortable buying it and that they should use caution before doing so. But Fifty Shades of Grey is totally different, because it's a FACT that it's sexually graphic. Some like that and some don't, but everyone will tell you that; and it goes against Scripture.
Okay, you have a good point about how just because one team outsmarts the other team doesn't mean they're right. Both of us need to apply that. But oh my word, I have SEEN this movie; I'm not making assumptions, let alone sweeping ones.
There will always be people who hate on a movie; and I've given you various reasons why they could be wrong. Again, I've read a surprisingly large amount of Christian reviews that say Courageous is an evil movie.
ZachB
"At most, we could tell people that we wouldn't be comfortable buying it and that they should use caution before doing so." Exactly. Frozen is a movie that I consider to not be something worth watching, and would not recommend others to watch.
As to the assumptions, I didn't say you were, I said I don't think I have been doing any more than you have been.
Of course there are going to be people for and against every movie that was ever created. But when you compare the two sides of the reviews, like I said earlier "pitting the reviews against them in debate form", the side for Courageous would win, but for me the side against Frozen wins. It's that simple. We read reviews and come to our own conclusions. You came to the conclusion that Frozen is a decent movie, and I came to the conclusion that Frozen is not something I would watch. And were the reviews on Courageous calling it evil really reviews, or just people ranting?
Each person is welcome to come to whatever conclusion they want to come up with, and it's people who share why they do or why they do not like a certain movie that helps people decide if they will or will not watch the movie, like Fifty Shades Of Grey. If reviewers and analyzers didn't say anything about Fifty Shades of Grey, how many people would be duped into watching it (if no book existed)? It may be fun to try to convince people to agree with our standpoint, and we may enjoy debating each other and trying to change each other's opinions, but bottom line is we choose based on our beliefs and interests to watch or not to watch a movie, and whether or not we consider a movie to be bad or good.
Nathan Wright: Impersonator Hunter
Yes, people were saying that Courageous was a morally objectionable movie.
See, I love pretty much everything you said here. You're telling me why YOU would not watch Frozen. I'm really not even trying to convince that it's good. I just think it's arrogant to go around saying a movie is bad, when like-minded Christians have differing views.
So if you wanna tell people why you wouldn't watch it, that's fine. But that's quite different from just calling it bad. I used to do that with a movie series I hadn't (and still haven't) seen. I would say it was evil, sinful, wicked, and every other synonym I knew. But when I talked to people who had watched it, it turned out that I was wrong about a lot of things. Still, I would not recommend it. But now what I say is that I have reasons for choosing to avoid it–but I don't just say "it's bad."

I'm up for some real chat if somebody is!
ZachB
Exactly! That's what I was doing. I was asked why I didn't like Frozen, and I gave my reasons. Because of that I say it's a bad movie.
To get technical here, the definition of arrogance is to put or act like oneself is better than another. I am not aware of having done that simply by stating that the movie is bad based on my personal analyzing of the reviews.
And saying that you 'wouldn't recommend it' as opposed to 'it's bad', those are pretty much interchangeable statements. If a vehicle is totaled, ought the owner to say "this a junk car, don't buy it" or "I wouldn't recommend buying it"? I was asked why I would not watch Frozen, and I gave my reasons why I considered that movie to be a bad movie and would not recommend people to watch it.
Isaac
What do you mean by "real chat"?
ZachB
He means social chatting that isn't debating about Frozen.
Matthew Minica
