That's what I do with my chord charts for Awana--put them in plastic sleeves in a binder. Our worship pastor is great, but he's not the most organized. A lot of times he doesn't even tell me what I'm playing until I show up beforehand to practice, so it's nice to have all my Awana music in one place. :-)
Yeah, I know how that is. :) Typical church musician problem, I guess. My voice/opera teacher is also rather disorganized. :)
I guess being a church musician must be in my future, because I'm pretty disorganized too. :-)

Maybe so. :) How long have you been playing for church/Awana?

I've been playing for Awana for a little over a year. I'm hoping to start playing for regular services sometime in the near future, but I think I need to be a little more confident first. Plus, I would have to be out of bed and awake (those two happen at different times for me :-P) to play for the 9:00 service. :-)

I thought you were serious, so I looked it up on YT. The first song was drums and piano, and a lady sounding like she was singing some sad jazz song. A couple other songs made a slightly better impression on me.

And hopefully she never will. :-P

Me? Controlling? I think you're talking to the wrong person. ;-)

Long story short, Sarah H. and I decided that we should perform Peponi by the Piano Guys next Saturday. (I won't say why unless asked, because that would make the story really long. :-) One problem: I first tried playing the piece last night, and like most other Piano Guys music, it's really complicated. Think I can have it down in a week?

Sarah

Haha, yes you did! ;-)
I'm almost done figuring out the music; I just need to work out a couple of the more difficult sections and perfect the whole thing. Did I mention I'm playing the piece by ear?

Peponi is finished! Yay! I think I've set a record for the fastest I've ever arranged a piece! Hopefully I'll have sheet music out in the next couple of weeks! :-D

Nope. Sorry. I've been learning anime themes and KPOP on piano; and I'm practicing more that I ever have. Note to those who think that they hate playing an instrument: Google sheet music from something you enjoy, and learn it. :)

Oh, I keep forgetting to ask. Does anyone know, in violin, when you have a harmonic on G (3 fingers on the D string), that's going to be half way on the G string, right? Because you want the harmonic of that note, not that note harmoic…ized…if that makes any sense whatsoever… ^I don't think it did. But I don't know how to ask it any clearer…^ I cannot ever remember how that works.

This song…. I'm not terribly familiar with the hymn "By and By," but I found this version the other day, and… chills

The first minute or so is a really old recording of something… so you can skip that. Not sure what it is. XD I think the song starts at 0:58. It's in some African language, and it's soooo gooddddd.

I have to arrange Fairest Lord Jesus for piano, 2 violins, and a cello…my siblings and I have to play it in…22 days. So I need to get busy. x) And I hope it sounds nice. :P Pray for me!

How did this topic get all the way to the 3rd page?

Anyway, I need some sort-of-music-related advice. During the school week, I listen to music quite a lot and therefore put a lot of strain on my earbuds. About two to three months after I purchase a pair, they decide they don't like their 12-14 hours per day schedule and the left side quits. This has happened with two pairs of Sony earbuds and one pair of Apples.
My question is, does anyone know of a high-quality, preferably not too expensive pair of earbuds that'll last me longer than two or three months?

Thanks!

The wires break in mine where they get bent a lot (usually right above the jack and below the ear piece) I found that wrapping duck-tape tightly around the wire in those places helped. some times just as one wears out you can wiggle it just right so it will work and tape it in place but the hand writing is on the wall and you only get about another month out of it.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the keyboard music of Claude Debussy. ^ _ ^ ^Just an idea, if anyone happens to be thinking about a birthday present or something. =P JK^

Yeah, my favorite thing about him is the way he uses all those different colors. It's so…impressionistic. :) I sang "En Sourdine" last semester - was quite a challenge, but it's a neat piece and I really like the piano part.

To all my fellow composers (or anyone creative): I need your help!
I just finished writing a totally random piano piece tonight–so random, in fact, that I can't think of a name for it. It's in G minor, and it has a fast-paced, bouncy, all-over-the-place kind of style to it. Can you help me come up with a name?
I could probably record the piece and put it up here, if that would help.

This one was a little too suspenseful and made things more stressful. It made me feel like I had to be hanging onto the chair handles that weren't there. :P

Shall I expound on the cello, arguably my favorite instrument? Yes? Alright, here goes…

I'm listening to the Bach Cello Suites right now - should help, right? Though I have to turn the volume up to block out the violin practice. XD

It's such a mellow and relaxing instrument. Like a cup of black tea…. The violin will cry with you, but the cello will remind you that "there's some good left in this world, and it's worth fighting for". (There, I've got tea and LOTR in here, do I need anything else?)

It has such a huge range, even for a string instrument. It's certainly the least painful string instrument to listen to as it's being learned. Lower quality cellos also have better sound and range of expression that a lower quality violin does not have (and certainly not the viola!). Its proportions are perfect. And you can hug it! XP

You don't have to hold it on your shoulder, eliminating some of the injuries you might get from playing violin or viola improperly.

And if we didn't have cello, we wouldn't have the Bach Cello Suites!

That's normally how I feel about Beethoven… but I've started to appreciate some of his music. It's really interesting to see how his emotions that he wasn't really able to share any other way come out. Can you imagine not being able to hear, and at the same time being somewhat avoided because people think you're crazy?

2 Corinthians 5:17

Yeah…I feel sorry for him, in a way, but the thing I find interesting is that even after he lost his hearing, he still wrote music :) That didn't stop the music from coming, even though he couldn't hear it himself. (how hard that would be…)
