Lord of the Rings Roleplay
Started by TwilrTwilr
I'm not sure how many of you know how to Role-Play, or how the dynamic/precedent is on here for doing so. But I do know that (almost) everyone on Memverse has a deep-seated love for Lord of the Rings. Therefore I have created a place to Role-play with that fandom:)
If you already have a character from another site (as I do) or another Roleplayers tab, you can place it here and we will begin! For those of you that would like to join but have no idea what to do (Which is totally alright!) I have a Character outline posted below.
Now, you by no means have to complete the entirety of the sheet posted below, it is a very detailed and goes into great depth of your character to be. I have filled this outline for my character out over about six months as she progressed and evolved through RPing. You can do the same but some portion of the outline should have information so that we know how to act around your character.
Actions are generally put inside * to make it bolded, like this:
Emily looked up at the sky
Thoughts are generally put inside _ to make it italic, like this
I hope it won't rain.
and speech is generally put down normally, you don't even have to use " if you don't want to. With all the other formatting it works well.
If you want to ask another user a question or make a comment, usually you would put them inside a border of double parentheses, like this: ((What's your character's name again?))
A completed paragraph would like this, you do not have to use all of these forms in every paragraph however:
((anyone here?)) Emily looked at the sky I hope it doesn't rain she thought Goodnight Moon! she called loudly and went inside.
If you would like to make a picture or avatar of your character visit http://www.azaleasdolls.com/dressupgames/lordoftherings.php
Please enjoy your time with us in Middle Earth!

This is what my Character is like, My profile picture is of her.
Name: Twilr Mistneth, say Twill-er (twill like trill without the ‘r’)
Nickname: Just Twilr
Age: Unknown
Gender: Female
Race: An Elf of Mirkwood
Family: Unknown
Birthday: Midsummers eve
Personality: Caring but distant, she likes people easily but will not always show it, especially when it’s a member of the opposite gender.
Biography: She was born in Mirkwood and lived there until she was grown. Then she chose her own path. It was one of strife and longing but also one of wonder. She chose to abide in Rohan as a rider of the Roharrim. During her first season as a Rider, a sturdy mount was given her by Eómer, the commander of her battalion. The steed's name was Morcal, or Daughter of Wind, as she had been trained in the Roharrim's ways since birth. When autumn came she returned to the halls of her childhood in the fair realm of the woodland elves. As winter fell on the world she journeyed to the northern woods to join the Dúnedain or Rangers of the North to the common people. This was her pattern for many seasons. It served her well and kept her apart from civilization for her desired length and let her collect her thoughts in the deep meditative woods.
Likes: People who do not talk overly much, and whose words inspire.
Dislikes: Those who use relations or aquatintences as pawns in a game. Those who drop names and act above themselves.
Appearance:
Hair: Light with a slight wave

This, however, takes considerable strength and will incapacitate her if to much is needed. She cannot heal her own injuries, she may tell the extent of her injuries and what remedies are needed but cannot work them herself.
Strengths: Archery and Swordplay, she excels at hand-to-hand combat and can deliver a lethal shot from a fair distance.
Weaknesses: Magic and those who use it, she feels uncomfortable around someone, who with a word, can create something that would’ve taken days with mundane means.

Would you believe me if I said that I have never actually read (or watched) Lord of the Rings? :)

Really?! I hadn't either until I left memverse the first time:P You should try listening to them on audiobook! It really helps when the story gets a bit dry.

I listened to the Hobbit about a year and a half ago. But, I was riding in the car with my family (I have eight siblings) and I was trying to study for the Bible Bee, so I wasn't always paying very good attention, and I don't remember the story very well :).

:D I've never read the Sillmarillion, the only versions that I could find were in german. But I do this for fun! Will you join me?

I'm not sure I'd recommend it. So far it reads like a history book. I think I will join you. Hold on a second…

((This is set about during the hobbit, and before the original trilogy. You can comment after me with a reaction.))
Twilr and Morcal were walking through the shadows of pleasant Greenwood forest. Twilr threw back her hood and tilted her head up and absorbed the spotty sunlight as much as she possibly could, the forests of Greenwood, her beloved homeland, had always had a draw for her, the sweet aromas and light dappled moss, it was all so familiar and soothing. suddenly a branch broke to her right, in one fluid motion Twilr strung her bow that had been hanging in front of her on the saddle and nocked an arrow. Pointing it towards the noise, she called: Show yourself.
Joshua S
Name (required): Ishighash
Nickname: Everyone calls me ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Age: a long, long, long number
Race (required): Balrog
Family: Maiar
Birthday: the day Arda was created
Personality (required): I don't like being around people much… or elves… or dwarves. I tend to have a very fiery temper, and I like deep, dark places. I'm also somewhat of a pyromaniac.
Biography: I came from who-knows-where into Arda to help the Valar. Then, Melkor gave me an amazing job opportunity. To sum it up, I'd get dark power and do whatever I want. All I had to do was serve Melkor for all eternity. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I was a little unsure at first, but then I saw the awesome whip I'd get and I was sold. It's hard to say for sure, but I think that was a defining moment in my life. The most depressing point in my life was probably when the Valar captured Melkor, and I had to hide in the depths of Angband.
Likes: Fire, fire, fire, and darkness, and evil.
Dislikes: Pretty much everything else.
Appearance (required):
Hair: None
Eyes: Like a flame of fire
Skin: Like fire, only dark. Don't ask me how that's possible.
Clothes: Ummm… That's a rather awkward subject. Does my whip count?
Weapon(s): A fiery whip
Magic item (optional): I'm actually kind of magical myself.
Pet(s) (optional): I had an Elf-lord once, but he died. I don't know what happened. I followed all Melkor's instructions on Elf care.
Powers (optional): I know a lot about fire. I also have miscellaneous other skills in magic and spells.
Strengths: Pretty much everything. I'm especially good with fire, magic, and causing unpleasant emotions in others.
Weaknesses: Know-it-all wizards.
Skills: Fire making and magic and making people run in terror.
Speed- 10/10
Stamina- 10/10
Strength 10/10
Accuracy 10/10
Kindness: negative sixteen out of ten
Bravery 0/10
Stubbornness 10/10
Wisdom 0/10
Knowledge 10/10
Memory 10/10
Charm 0/10
Friends: None
Romantic interest (optional): I don't have any romantic interests. I do have several reverse romantic interests, but I could go on all day about that.
Twilr
That is so cool! I've never seen a balrog's profile done before! I love the Elf as a pet line:P
Joshua S
Yeah, that was fun, although slightly disturbing.
Twilr
Yeah, that was fun, although slightly disturbing.
I'm not quite sure how a balrog can fit into the storyline that I started though. I'll have to do one where I'm walking through the mines of Moria I guess. hmmm. Can you think if an opener? I'm stumped.
Joshua S
Well, maybe I got tried of the dark and wanted to come outside and burn down the forest. Maybe I'm headed back to Moria after escaping from the underworld after being humiliatingly defeated by an annoying wizard. I think I'd make more noise than a snapping branch though. Unless I can change form, but I'm not sure if balrogs can do that. I think they can, because other Maiar were able to change form. Maybe I'm walking through the woods disguised as an elf.
Matthew Minica
There was something like this going on a couple years ago with King Sam… Don't know what happened to it. :P
Twilr

:P Really? I didn't know that! I love doing this though so I'd thought I'd start one. Care to join us? We need some more humanoids.
Matthew Minica
Um, I don't think I can, as I know next to nothing about LOTR… Yeah, go ahead, yell at me all you want… xP xP
Twilr
Oh my… Nothing? Well you could always go and watch the movies then get back to us.
Isabelle Ingalls
Wow, this looks cool! But, I'm not sure I'm on often enough to play. Also, my Tolkienese is a little rusty, I'm due for a re-read of LoTR, and it has been a long time since I read the similrillian… and I'm not grand with coming up with stories :/
Matthew Minica
Hehe, yeah. I wish. =P

That would work! You can respond to my opener then I guess. And I think you wanted me to know that you were there because elves travel soundlessly so you maybe stepped on the twig on purpose? I don't know.
Esther Grace
Isabelle! I didn't know you were on here! :) When did you join? (sorry this is off-topic, but I couldn't find your IY page :P)
Isabelle Ingalls
Well, that's probably because I haven't made one yet apologetic smile
I will get around to it eventually!
Edit: there we go, I made one

So, I'm walking along through the forest and taking all the beauty of the forest. It is so beautiful, it's disgusting, and I can't help imaging how good the forest would look if it was wreathed in fire! Tree's burning, branches snapping, and everywhere the dancing of bright, red flames! I reach down and snap one of the tiny dry twigs between my fingers, shivering with anticipation, when suddenly, I am awakened out of my daydream by the voice of an elf-woman saying, "Show yourself." It's been a while since I saw an elf, and it's voice awakens a pain within me as I recall with sorrow my long lost pet. Peering through the trees, I see the elf pointing her stick-thingy around at the woods. I decide to have some fun, but showing myself is a little complicated. Some people have trouble deciding what clothes to wear, but I have to decide what body to wear! No one thinks of it much, but that's a pretty big decision. I consider appearing as a handsome elf-man, but decide it would be safer to appear as an innocent, adorable elf-child. Taking on this form I step out into the open. "Please do not release your stick at me! I am only an innocent, adorable child!"

Can I play?? x)

It sounds dumb. All fantasy movies/books sound dumb. (Even Star Wars is dumb…)

I haven't seen LOTR but it still sounds dumber than Star Wars is.

LOL! I didn't say that I thought it was dumb; I just said that I've never read it. I don't think that I could be sure anything was dumb without knowing much about it :).

Nope! That sounds dumb too… but LOTR still sounds dumber.

This is a great Profile! Of course you can join! Maybe you could be walking through the forest, I hear you (using my earlier opener) And then you see that something is off about the child and then we have to fight the Balrog and we think that we chase him off but he wasn't really fighting us, he just wanted to get back to Moria? Does that sound good to you as well @Joshua Swain?
I really hope I'm not sounding too bossy with this whole thing:{ I often slip into my organizer mode and try to micromanage everything.
Isabelle Ingalls
Nope! That sounds dumb too... but LOTR still sounds dumber.
gasp I'm not sure what to think anymore…
bites tongue to keep from going on hour-long rant why both Narnia and LoTR are amazing, and why I love Lewis, (although I don't agree completely with all his theology) and how they give such great examples of sacrifice and courage, and to keep from quoting the Chesterton quote about how children need fairy-tales, because they already know about dragons, so let them at least hear about knights who slay them
realizes I just did a mini-rant
sigh
sorry, not trying to be rude, every one is entitled to their own opinions :) I'm sure you have your own reasons for not loving it.
:)

Sounds fine to me, but I think a better ending would be that I kill you both, burn down the forest, and destroy the entire world! (just kidding)
Twilr

lol:P That would certainly add drama!

Uh….whoa…..I'll have to disagree on those. Those are two of the best non-Christian series, in my opinion! I agree, though, on Star Wars. It's just weird anyway. :P

(I think there was a thread to talk about LoTR and Narnia theology and all.)
Anyway I'm an Orc.

I have heard much of these timeless beasts, but never seen one–nor particularly wanted to. They are fabled for their intense ferocity and even rumored to be invulnerable. Yet they told me some have been defeated before, and that this appears to be one of the lesser Balrogs. So to protect my reputation–and because never before have I embarked on such a bold quest–I accepted the challenge. If I can slay the beast, I will gain their trust and admiration. Yet I know that it will be a very difficult task; I will be fortunate if I come out of it alive. I think the promised reward is worth the risk.
Having tracked the obvious and destructive path of the escaped Balrog from Moria to Fangorn, Turner finally tracked the creature to Greenwood Forest. [side note: Where is this forest? It would be helpful to know.] The flames that followed the Balrog wherever it went seemed to have disappeared since he entered the forest; Turner could only hope that the creature's fire had gone out for a time, making an impending fight with it more feasible. But suddenly the trail ended; Turner could not tell where the beast had turned next. Just then he heard the snap of a twig, and the unmistakable voice of a female elf saying, "Show yourself."
Who could this be? Another tracker of the Balrog? Shall I answer, or–
"Please do not release your stick at me! I am only an innocent, adorable child!"
What?
Joshua S
"One of the lesser Balrogs"?! It's a good thing I can't read your thoughts. That's very insulting.

As the small child came out of the forest Twilr felt an uneasy twinge, something about this was not right. Elves - even younglings - travel soundlessly, therefore, this elf wanted to be seen. Also, archery was something that all elves practiced, even the youngest would know the proper term for an arrow. It may not be from Greenwood Lothlórien or even Fangorn, is this one of the descendants of the high elves? She quickly discarded this proposition as well however, for even the High Elves used bows with frequency. Hello, She said, not unkindly, and without lowering her weapon Who are you? Why are you here?

Greenwood forest is what Mirkwood was called before the rise of Sauron in the books and films. If you need a map, you could look here: http://mume.org/wiki/images/5/59/Middle-earth.png

I am an elf-child, of course! And the reason I'm here is that I walked here.
