Hello there, "your majesty". I have a friend in the Bible Bee thing who told me about this site. He told me that you people talked a lot. What happened?

I think most of our users grew up or figured that they were too cool for this place. I myself have been pretty busy with college, but I've had some time over break to watch this place little by little. If you ever want me, just shoot an email to the address in my profile, and you should catch me. :)

Hey now, PandaKid, everyone is the type of person we want here! We're all different, and our differences are what make us special. We might not all agree on everything, but we can all still learn from each other. ^_^

I'll say this much: you're more accepting than most christians I've known. I've got religious people at my school who are always talking about how we're all going to hell and we're sinners and it all feels really judgemental to me.

Welcome to the forums, MonochromePanda! Who did you know in Bible Bee?

Aw, that's sad that the people at school have come across as being judgmental. It's true that we will go to hell if we don't believe in God, but if we do believe in Him, we have lots of hope!

It's true that a lot of people claiming to be Christians act that way, and I'm sorry you've had bad experiences. The God I believe in isn't about judgment, but about love and commitment. Sure, we all do things that God doesn't like, and that is sin. But God sent Christ so that He could start a relationship with us, and help us understand that His way is ultimately the best way. :)

@AnnaM My friend and I live on the East Coast. He never got to regionals, but he did talk about this website and how he memorized verses a lot here.

The question I have is why would I want to believe in a God at all? What's the point? People talk a lot about belief and knowing some higher power, but why?

@Hiruko Kagetane: You saying that reminded me of John 3:16-17.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

@MonochromePanda ~ I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question without my answer feeling kinda subjective. I believe in God because I've felt Him move. Yeah, that sounds all supernatural and stuff, but hear me out. I honestly don't believe that I'd be the person I am today without His guidance. I've gone through school, learned about the world (or as much as you can when you're a homeschooler), and I really can't bring myself to admit that all of this happened by random chance. There had to have been a designer. And I believe that God is that designer. :)

@MonochromePanda: Oh, okay. Bible Bee is a lot of fun! :)

Hmm…I'm not exactly sure how to answer that, because I was thinking, "Why would you not want to believe in God?" :) Well, as I was just saying on another forum, what purpose would there be in life if there was no God? It's so sad to think about if I were to just live 80 or so years, die, and then be completely forgotten in another 80 or so years. Because I believe in God, I have hope and know that when I die, I will get to be with Him forever. It makes the trials of life seem so small, because life is so short compared to eternity.

Recently, I've also found a lot of security in the love of God. I have some great friends, but sometimes friends don't stick with you. And that's understandable, because they are humans, too. There are also some things that you really just can't talk to your friends (or anyone) about. But as Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." God is always with me in every trial, and He loves me regardless of who I am. Of course, because I love Him, I want to please Him and do what is right. But even when I fail and fall, I know that He continues to love me. "I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you." (Jeremiah 31:3)

Hey, I really hope that we aren't coming across as know-it-alls or anything. I would hate it if we were. We wouldn't know anything if it weren't for the grace of God!

@HirukoKagetane Why can't life have just come about after the big bang and all the other events that led up to it? There's a lot of science to back up evolution, but I don't see any evidence for a guy coming back from the dead.

@AnnaM Biologically speaking, the purpose of life is to survive. What else do you need? It sounds to me like your belief is more of a crutch than anything, but to each their own I guess.

46ebbbfa6be61e25feb8e61dfb37cff1?s=128&d=mm

M27

@MonochromePanda:
Well, I don't really see what the purpose of survival is if there's no reason to live in the first place. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not. There's no reason to live if you're just going to die.
No, my belief is not a crutch, though I don't think I did a very good job at communicating what I meant when I said that. I believe because God has spoken to my heart. I've seen Him do amazing things, even through situations that were really hard. I can't deny the evidence that there is a reason that everything happens the way it does. Therefore, there must be someone who controls everything.

Also, the Bible is sharper than any two-edged sword (see Hebrews 4:12), and it convinces me even more than science or some other evidence could. It comes from God's mouth so it's powerful and life-changing. Try reading the Bible cover-to-cover, and I think that you'll probably agree with this by the end :).

@MonochromePanda ~ Actually, there is a lot of evidence that calls into question the legitimacy of the theory of evolution and the Big Bang itself. For example, if a singularity existed before the Big Bang that created the Big Bang, that singularity, in and of itself, is unscientific and could not exist. Thus, believing in the Big Bang is a lot like believing in God, except that you think it's all random, rather than ordered.

Also, you can't tell me that you can look at the human body and honestly believe that all of the intricate systems within it came about by accident! There's way too much there that could go wrong if it were to develop gradually from some proto-cell in the ocean! :)

I need to go now, but I've enjoyed talking with you! Thanks for being open with us. I really appreciate that. Thank you also for giving me a chance to grow in the area of talking about what I believe. As you can probably tell, I'm not very experienced, but I suppose that we learn from our mistakes :). It would be a good idea to talk to older Christians about this, too. I'm a teenager, and I know that there are many people wiser than I am. I'll hopefully check back later, so feel free to reply to anything I said. I will be praying for you!

@anna M Survival of the fittest. The purpose of living is to live as long as you can. That's how animals live, and thats how humans have lived for millions of years.

@HirukoKagetane I think there are a few scientists who would disgree with you, but whatever. You put up a good fight though. I think I'll step out of this conversation for now. Nice talking to you all.

It is so good to see that Sam was on 14 hours ago! and Abi was on 5 hours ago! That brings joy to my heart… the old Memverse group has not forgotten to joy we had here.

In 29 days this thread has only progressed two pages. I remember when we would use up 100 or more pages in a month.

I hardly know how to use it at all… don't really like the idea of not being able to make memories that stick around, like they do here.

Does the "Currently Online" not work for you anyone else?

It doesn't work when the forums are blue and stuff. For some reason the forums aren't embedding properly into memverse, which means the forums are on their own page, are blue, and don't have the Currently Online feature working.
