2014 Changes

Another small change - The extra Bible Memory passages and the additional Bible Knowledge book of the Bible for the National Contest will be posted on the Bible Bee website on or before the Friday following the Local Contests. So it's Friday, not Wednesday? Still less time? :\

WHAT!??? How ever are we going to be able to survive?? It was bad enough having to wait till Wednesday. And yeah, that's sure not going to be very much time to study for nats. :-/

They said that they're working on how they can make it secure and they're going to use the same place that does online SAT tests, or something like that.

This is CRAZY…

The square dance is still scheduled, but at the moment it's for Saturday at 9pm. xP xP ;D

It sounds to me as if they are trying to start a regional competition in between locals and nationals as early as next year. Did you see how many local competitions there are??? O_O

Where do you see that?! I can't find it anywhere! I did see that there are 500 hosts, but can't see the locations!

I'm so sad about not having a real oral test at locals this year. :( that was my favorite part, but I guess at least we still get to do one.

And has anyone else seen how the scoring for the written test will be? Like, how many points and such? I'm wondering…

They said there would be about 500 bubbles on the map because of the proctors. There was like 60 hosts or something.

I don't really like them!!!! I don't think they should have gotten arid of orals. :(:( I kind of understand why they did it but I still don't like it :P What about you??

I know…I like it where we can have encouragement, fellowship, and fun…Not just taking the test and leaving…you know?

EXACTLY!!!!! I can't imagine how different things would be if the my whole BB experience was like an hour an a half of just coming in, taking a test and leaving.

They'll be there. They just won't affect you going to Nats, unless you don't do them. They qualify you in the competition.

I think they said new hosts can still register, over the phone. Just not online.

My thoughts!

Although I personally cannot say I like the new changes (my biggest fear is cheating online), I do think that the Bible Bee came at it with a heart that is anxious to help as many as possible learn God's word. We should definitely give them credit for that. :)

A proctor has fewer responsibilities. All they do is administer the written test in a secure environment, and ship the finished tests back to BB HQ. The tests are graded at BB HQ.

A host is still responsible for setting up a monthly get together in the summer, and having an opening ceremony & celebration on contest day. They also send the written tests through a scanner, and send the actual scores back to BB HQ.

As a result, they can hand out prizes to the contestants based on how they placed in the local round, though they are NOT ALLOWED to tell contestants their actual scores. (evidently that "not allowed" bit is in the contestant rule book, I don't know if that's new this year though.)

My understanding is, no. Because they don't actually score the tests, so they won't know who the top 5 are. However, all local prizes are at the discretion of the Host/proctor, as far as I know anyway, so I suppose if they wanted to do an oral round they could, and if they wanted to send out prizes once the scores are announced, I would imagine they can do that to. But I'm not connected to any official Bible Bee people, so I can't speak with authority.

It's in the Competition Rulebook, I'm not sure of the link but I know my mom could see it after she registered.
