God's Maiden of Virtue

Has anyone heard of the authors Jeri Massi or Milly Howard? They are both great authors! Here are some of the books and stories Jeri Massi has written:
Antartica
Sons of a Mighty Father
Derwood Inc.

And here are some books Milly Howard has written:
These are my People
Captive Treasure
Feathers in the Wind

One of my favorite authors is Sarah Maxwell. She has written the Moody Family Series.

Summer with the Moodys
Autumn with the Moodys
Winter with the Moodys
Spring with the Moodys
Summer Days with the Moodys
Autumn Days with the Moodys

I have not heard of the first two, but I have the following books that Sarah Maxwell has written - Summer with the Moodys, Autumn with the Moodys, Winter with the Moodys & Spring with the Moodys and I LOVE them!

@Zachary Baas and Bethany- I know! I love reading the comments on the back of the book. We got her newest book Autumn Days with the Moodys about a year ago.
Have either one of you heard of Jeri Massi or Milly Howard?

No, I've never heard of Jeri Massi or Milly Howard. (Well, at least until you mentioned them. ;))
Have any of you heard of Amy Vest? I don't think that she's written any books, but she has done some conferences speaking to girls and young ladies about their relationships with God, and a few other things. A few of her topics on a video conference I watched were "Beautiful to God", and "Friendship and Life". It was really challenging but also encouraging. Her blog is called "Loving the Lord", if you want to check it out. I'm not sure what the exact address is, though. A really good friend of mine got to meet Amy and was able to film a documentary about her! It is called "Shining in Her Corner". I haven't actually seen it yet, so I can't reccommend it, but it looks pretty good.

I haven't heard of Amy Vest, but you got me very interested! Thanks for sharing about her. She sounds a lot like the one who started Bright Lights, Sarah Malley.
Sarah Malley has written a book that talks about girls and young ladies being strong for the Lord and keeping themselves pure. She and her brother and sister wrote a book about having a good relationship with your siblings. I went to her conference last year in May.

You all should read God Has A Wonderful Plan For Your Life by Ray Comfort.

Can't believe I missed that comment on the last page, SBG! (I forgot to check this post for more pages)
Tolkien is my FAVORITE author. No one holds a candle to him.
I've read the Hobbit and the Trilogy several times over, and I'm still not tired of them (the fastest time I read the Trilogy was about 1 week).

Next to Tolkien, I enjoy(ed) the books of G.A. Henty (look him up on Vision Forum) and R. M. Ballantyne (you can see his books on VF also).

The Redwall series (I know some of you out there have read them) are all right, but the plots is always a bit simple and the characters are too defined as either evil or good. There is no in-between (except in one (Veil) which I enjoyed more than the other ones). He still is a good author, however.
The Kingdom series (Chuck Black) are good. I don't agree with his end-times, but he's a good author. (I also read his Knights of Arrethtrea; liked them).
The Firefish series is also pretty good (I forget the author's name). Some of the theology may have been a little sketchy, but I'm not exactly sure how the author meant it always, so I still like the books a lot.
C.S. Lewis! How could I forget him! He's great! Though his theology was a little off, unfortunately. Still love his books.

But above these all, standing head and shoulders above them, is Mr. John Ronald Raoul Tolkien. (I'm pretty sure that's his full name). BTW, that's just my opinion.
Oh, I also read his Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales, and maybe one other book. Different style from LotR, but still liked them.

I LOVE Jeri Massi's books - have you read the Bracken Trilogy? I read it when I was 9 and I absolutely love them! On Bob Jones' website they have a list of books for ages 9=12 or whatever and they recommend a lot of Milly Howard and Jerri Massi's books. I also love the Moody Series - did you know that Winter With the Moody's has come out? It is so cool - I want it! Me and my sister each have the whole set (except book 7) - I got mine with Bible Bee money I had left over from donations and I gave my sister the entire set for Christmas.

All my Moody books are signed by Sarah. I have actually written her a couple of letters and I have 2 postcards and a letter that is written specifically to me from her - is that not cool or what?! We went to a conference they had a while back in our area - have you heard them play their instruments? They're good.

Hey, me too!!! :) I haven't read any of A.W. Pink's material yet, but my Dad and I are going to go through his book "The Attributes of God" for Bible class sometime soon. I also have been reading (although I haven't read any recently out of it) RC Sproul's book "The Holiness of God". It is really easy to read, but very deep on theology. VERY interesting!

His Servant

@Talia – I started one of his books along time ago, but never got through it (probably because I was like 9-10!). I might pick it back up once I have more time…

I also like the Holiness of God, Crazy Love and other books such as Shadow of the Almighty and The Surprising Work of God.

BBJ12 - I have read Chuck Black's books, and I must agree that they are very good.
But I still think that Tolkien is better.
(BTW, have you read the LotR? It's a must-read.)

A. W. Pink - love his stuff! (Well, what I've read of it.)
I'm part of a young men's study and we were studying The Attributes of God (I say 'were' because the study is on hold for the summer and I'm not sure if we're studying the book anymore.)
I just finished The Gospel According to Jesus by MacArthur. I REALLY like it. It is so Scriptural and logical…MacArthur is a great guy!
Right now I'm reading The Glory of the Redeemer by Octavius Winslow.
It's really good so far, but definitely another style from today's writing.
Has anyone here read John Calvin's The Institutes of the Christian Religion? (I haven't, I'm just curious)

Oh, by the way, for a father/son study our church is doing, we are studying Grace Unknown, by R. C, Sproul. It's an explanation of reformed theology, and it's very good.
(I thought you were reformed, Talia! That's cool! I suppose you already figured out that I (and all the other mischief-makers on here) am a part of a reformed church.)

@BBJ12- No, I haven't read Bracken Trilogy. Could you give a short intro on it? Do you use Bob Jones?? We use it for school.

@Talia- I don't think that is weird. I'm in the middle of one of his books.

@Bethany- We study The Attributes of God in a ladies study that my mom and I go to at our church.

@Octavius- I didn't know that those in the men's study had been studying the same book.

@Rachel- I love your new picture! I LOVE roses, and I love the color of that one.

GMOV - this is a different study from the father/son study.
Nate, Calvin, Kenan, and I have been doing it, along with two other boys that COS knows a little ( you might recognize the names too: Caleb Whitmore and Micah Fierro).
The book we're doing for the father/son study is Grace Unknown by R. C. Sproul.

@ Bethany: Of course that's me! I really do look like a cartoon character in real life! :D

@ Zachary: Actually it's a comic character named Average Boy from one of Focus on the Family's children's magazines called Clubhouse. ;)

Funny. Today I had (I think) 169. :o

Typically I have around 30 per day, and once every week I have between 50 and 170, and once a month I have around 373.

I usually have anywhere between 12-40, but recently I've been having only 2-11! and today I had none! :O I'm thinking that number will go up during BB :)

You'll probably get hit with a bigger number than normal later on, like my once-a-month ~373.

wow that IS big! I sometimes have 50+ ….a few times i had 100+ ….I think it all depends on how many verses you have in your account and what you rate them as.

If you analyze my avatar and a picture of me trying to be funny, you come up with quite a few things in common: the raised eye-brow, the tongue sticking out, the over-sized glasses, the candid smile, the pentagonal shape, the blue color, the piercingly boring eyes… it all bears a striking resemblance!
