Bible Reading Accountability
Started by SavedByGraceSheila Edeliant
I did a chronological (in order of time) Bible reading plan this year–1 month to go! :) I have greatly enjoyed it. I think it averages about 3 chapters a day. (It has been 3 pages in my Bible most days. :))
The exact plan I used is laid out at: http://www.ewordtoday.com/year/kjv/cjan01.htm. I am pretty sure you can set up the calendar to start on any day of the year, but my bookmark has it starting on Jan 1 since that's how I did it. They actually have several through-the-Bible-in-a-year plans on this site.
Pretty sure that's not even 1,000,000,000 verses a day. ;)
SavedByGrace
I don't even read 1,000,000,000 LETTERS in my Bible every day. :P By the way, I did my reading today–how about everyone else? :)
Sheila Edeliant
lol, yes, I was thinking that after I wrote that!
I did my reading: More of 1 Corinthians: spiritual gifts and love. :)
Who else did their reading?
God's Maiden of Virtue
@His Servant- That's completely fine. I haven't been able to get on much in the past few days myself. Yes, I have done my Bible reading for today. I read Hebrews 1-3 (I know, last time I said I had read from 1Thessalonians, I've just been reading several chapters each day recently so that I can finish by the end of the year. Then I can start using my devotional Bible! :) )
What did you read in your Bible reading today, if you have done it for today, that is?
Wow! You get up at 5:15? How long does your Bible reading take (or do you have another reason for getting up that early)?
BTW, I'll try to get my letter to you sometime this week, or early next week (and thank you for the bookmark-it's beautiful!).
His Servant II (Bethany)
@God's Maiden of Virtue – Yes, I did do my reading, thanks for asking!! I read the 12th chapter of Genesis, Joshua, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Matthew, Acts, Romans and 1 Timothy 4.
Yes, I do. Mostly because I feel a lot more energized in the morning than in the evening/night. I spend an hour on my Bible reading/prayer/meditation. Then, at 6:15 I start on school for the day!! =)
Oh, take your time on the letter…especially since you aren't feeling well! I'll be praying for you!
EdB
I'm making this reply to Sheila, but really it is intended (for the most part) for everyone.
I have MANY Bibles that I have acquired over the years. But interestingly (to me, at least) I hardly ever find myself using or looking at a paper-based Bible any more!
The reason is the overwhelming advantages of Electronic Bibles! I can find passages so much more quickly. You can attach your own notes, marking, underlining, etc., and it does not damage the original copy in any way.
Plus, I always have my iPhone with me, so I always have my Bible, study helps, and memory verses with me.
I also started Prof. Horner's reading plan recently. The thing that helped CLINCH the decision to do it was that there is a FREE app that not only has the readings assigned for the appropriate days, but I can click on the BkChapVerse in the reading plan (like Genesis 12) and it takes me instantly to the beginning of that chapter, in the Bible of my choice! How cool is that?? No bookmarks to lose! And it keeps track of which portions I have read, and which ones I have yet to read. I really, really like it. BTW, the app is called ReadingPlan, and as I said, it is FREE. Works on either iPhone or iPad. If anyone checks it out, and decides to use it, let me know. I'd love to hear your feedback.
Sheila, I lived for many years in Portland, Oregon. Is it OK to ask what part of Oregon you live in??
SavedByGrace
Today I read the sixteenth chapter of Genesis, Joshua, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Matthew, Acts, and Romans, and 2 Timothy 2. What about the rest of you? :)
God's Maiden of Virtue
I tend to be the opposite; I usually feel more energized in the evening than in the morning (which sometimes makes it hard for me to get up early). :) I also spend an hour in the morning for my Bible reading/meditating/prayer/memorization.
Thank you for your prayers! I wish you knew what an encouragment that is to me!
His Servant II (Bethany)
@SBG - Yup, I did my reading for today! Thanks for asking :)
@GMOV - That's great that you spend a lot of time in God's Word…it's my favorite time of the day, and oh, so refreshing! We serve an awesome God!!
You're welcome! Are you feeling any better yet? I'll keep praying for you. Looking forward to receiving your letter - they totally make my day :)
SavedByGrace
For my Bible reading today, I read Genesis 18, Joshua 18, Job 18, Psalms 18, Proverbs 18, Isaiah 18, Matthew 18, Acts 18, 1 Corinthians 2, and 2 Timothy 4. Did everyone else read their Bibles today? :)
Sheila Edeliant
@EdB: That app sounds very cool. I like my electronic study helpers, too (although I do not own an iPhone or anything, just a PDA and a laptop), but there is something about the physical holding of the book and writing of the notes that really helps me. :)
And sure! We live in Rogue River. You are likely familiar with Rogue River, but just in case: it is several hours south of Portland on I-5 (48 miles from California).
………
@all: I have been so busy these last few days, working on getting my upcoming book, The Bedtime Psalm for Children, up on Kickstarter :) , but… I have been reading my Bible! Today, I finished 2 Corinthians.
2 Corinthians 13:11 "Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you."
God's Maiden of Virtue
Amen!
Sadly, no, I haven't been feeling any better. This is the longest that I have ever had a cold.
His Servant II (Bethany)
Yes! I did my reading for today! I read the 16th chapter of Genesis, Joshua, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Matthew, Acts, 1 Corinthians 1 and 2 Timothy 3! Do you write down what you read each day, or do you just remember the next day what you have to read? In my notebook that I write out the summary of the chapter, I also write down what I read for the day :)
Also, I have been doing my reading each day, I just don't always come on here and say that I have :)
@Rosie - I'm sorry! I'll keep praying.
SavedByGrace
I don't write anything down, I just remember what I have to read for the next day.
I figured you had–I don't always come on here and say that I have either, but I have every day since I started. :)
Anyways, today I read Genesis 19, Joshua 19, Job 19, Psalm 19, Proverbs 19, Isaiah 19, Matthew 19, Acts 19, 1 Corinthians 3, and Titus 1.
His Servant II (Bethany)
Sounds good! Also, I was wondering…would you mind sharing how you studied under a Bible Bee post - if you have the time? You said that you felt really prepared for Nationals and all. (I know that I didn't feel like that…I was frantically still studying the morning of prelim's!)
Would you mind?
SavedByGrace
No problem–I just wrote a post under the "NATIONALS!" forum. :)
SavedByGrace
Whoops… I guess I've forgotten to post here for a bit too long. :} Anyways, today I read Genesis 22, Joshua 22, Job 22, Psalms 22, Proverbs 22, Isaiah 22, Matthew 22, Acts 22, 1 Corinthians 6, and Philemon.
Anyone else do their reading today? :)
His Servant
I read Genesis 20, Joshua 20, Job 20, Psalm 20, Proverbs 20, Isaiah (what? 20? You guessed right! :P), Matthew 20, Acts 20, 1 Corinthians 5 and Titus 3 :)
EDIT - I made a mistake…I read the 21st chapter of all those books. But, if that is correct (which I know that it is) then one of us got off a day. When we started the plan, you were 2 days ahead of me, and now I'm 1 chapter behind you….any ideas?
biblebee
Who has done their Bible Reading today? When do you all normally read your Bible…in the morning, afternoon, etc…?
SavedByGrace
Yeah, actually, I did miss last Sunday… but I'm not planning on missing any more days anytime soon. :) I hope. :P
Anyway, today I read Genesis 24, Joshua 24 (on to Judges tomorrow!), Job 24, Psalms 24, Proverbs 24, Isaiah 24, Matthew 24, Acts 24, 1 Corinthians 8 and James 2.
@biblebee{senior}–I almost always read my Bible at 7:00 in the morning: right when I arrive at work. :)
biblebee
That's the same time I read it :D
SavedByGrace
Okay, today I read Genesis 25, Judges 1, Job 25, Psalms 25, Proverbs 25, Isaiah 25, Matthew 25, Acts 25, 1 Corinthians 9, and James 3. How 'bout everyone else? :)
His Servant
I did mine! Thanks for asking :)
I read the 24th chapter of Genesis, Joshua, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Matthew, Acts, 1 Corinthians 8, and Hebrews 2
Hey Nicolas - don't forget to read on Sunday!!
SavedByGrace
Thanks for the reminder. It will be especially hard this Sunday, since we have people coming over right after church… maybe I can get up early in the morning? :)
His Servant
Good idea! Yeah, I'm horrible about getting up early. Our Church service starts at 3:30 and goes till about 9:30 (in the evening). So I normally sleep till 10 (which is not normal, I normally am up by 5;15), read my Bible (and do reading, memory and meditation) and then prepare for the service by rearranging the house and making the food.
Sheila Edeliant
Not sure if I said this earlier, but I usually read my Bible early in the morning while everything is still quiet. :)
I've gotten a bit behind schedule this week just because I have spent several days on one day's reading. :( Anyway, I've got a bit of catching up to do in order to finish the year on schedule. I am determined to do that! :)
Currently, I am back in Acts–Paul. Lots to think about.
SavedByGrace
Wow, your church service starts a lot later than ours! Our service starts at 9:30, and we are half an hour away! :) The services last either until 3:30 (on the first and third Sundays of the month) or until 12:30, and then a second service at 6:00 (on the second, fourth, and fifth Sundays of the month). :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
9:30 to 3:30 ?!?!?!?! Is that correct or a misprint?
Grace Mieczkowski
Well, we beat you for an early start! Our service starts at 9:00, and we are almost an hour away!
Just kidding…. (about beating you….. not about the times - those are for real).
I would assume you have some sort of mealtime in the middle of the Sundays with longer services…. Whenever there is a "5th Sunday" in a month, our church has a fellowship meal after the morning services, and then the afternoon service goes until about 2:30. Afterwards, families gather at each other's homes for times of fellowship. We've really enjoyed that arrangement :) Normally, though, services go from 9:00 to 12:00, and the evening service at 5:30.
Have a blessed Lord's day tomorrow, everybody!
δούλος
Our church starts at 9:00 in the morning, and we are a half hour away and my dad pastors two churches, so we get to have the other church service to 12:00 and then we have sunday evening services at 7:30.
Lots of fun!
Have a blessed Lord's day tomorrow too!
SavedByGrace
@Rachel–No, that is not a misprint. :) There is an hour-long Sunday school from 9:30 to 10:30, then a half-hour break until the first service, which lasts from 11:00 to 12:30, then a lunch break that lasts until around 2:00, then our pastor preaches a short sermon (about a half-hour or so) and then distributes the bread and the cup of the Lord's Table. It is about 3:30 by that time. :) Again, that is only on the first and third Sundays.
SavedByGrace
As I forgot to mention, I actually did read my Bible yesterday! I forced myself to get up earlier. :)
Today I read Genesis 28, Judges 4, Job 28, Psalms 28, Proverbs 28, Isaiah 28, Matthew 28 (on to Mark tomorrow!), Acts 28 (first list that I'm starting over!), 1 Corinthians 12, and James 5. And the rest of you? :)
His Servant
Okay, now I'm totally confused. I just read chapter 27 of all the long books, and also 1 Corinthians 11 and Hebrews 5. How can you be reading chapter 28 of all the long books and James 5??? That means that you are super ahead on the last reading (the epistle) because you're only 1 day ahead of me on the majority of the books, but like 15 days ahead on that last bookmarked placed.
???
SavedByGrace
Uh-oh, I think you didn't look at the bookmark closely enough. :) Bookmark 4 skips Hebrews and puts it in bookmark 3. And also, I accidentally said that I had read James 5, when I had read that the day before. I actually read 1 Peter 1 that day. :)
Today, I read Genesis 29, Judges 5, Job 29, Psalms 29, Proverbs 29, Isaiah 29, Mark 1, Acts 1, 1 Corinthians 13, and 1 Peter 2. :)
His Servant
Oh, Nicolas, I can't believe it! Now, I'm not only thrown off on the reading, but my book that I write down the chapter content is all thrown off as well!! cries
Oh well, I guess, I'll just keep reading in Hebrews and then come up with a plan once it's finished to get back on track. And, you didn't catch it at all when I put down what I read these last few days that I was in Hebrews?
Thanks for letting me know. BTW, did you do your reading yet for today? I did :)
biblebee
I'm off too :( I didn't read the bookmark carefully and so I am reading in Hebrews when I should be in James.
2 Corinthians 5:17
I've decided to do Professor Horner's reading plan, for now at least! :)
Who did their reading today?
Elizabeth
I am doing the plan as well and it has been such a blessing so far! =) For today, I have read 5 out of the 10 chapters…and I'm planning on reading the final 5 chapters of today this evening. :) Blessings!
biblebee
I did my reading today.
SavedByGrace
I did my reading–Genesis 30, Judges 6, Job 30, Psalms 30, Proverbs 30, Isaiah 30, Mark 2, Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 14, and 1 Peter 3. :)
His Servant
Have you all done your reading for today? I must admit, that when I woke up, I didn't do my regular reading, but read Philippians 3 instead (one of my favorite chapters of the Bible!) and thought on the topic living our life for Christ, and being diligent to serve Him every way I can.
SavedByGrace
I have not yet done my reading for today, as we have been quite busy. But I will be sure to do it tonight. :) However, I have to admit that I missed another day recently, on Saturday. We left at 5:30 in the morning to go to the Creation Museum, and returned at 10:30 at night; by this time, I was quite tired and, I'm sorry to say, did not think to read my Bible. :}
SavedByGrace
Great to see you starting this, AstroLeah! :)
I did finish my reading yesterday (and had to stay up until just before midnight to do it!), though I have not done it yet today. I will do today's reading as soon as possible, and will probably say so on this forum. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
I'm doing a bit of a revised version, for example, the list combines Acts and Romans together
His Servant II (Bethany)
How is the Bible reading going everyone?
I did mine today!
SavedByGrace
It's going great–I've only missed two days in the 40 days I've been doing it (though I probably shouldn't have missed any at all…). I have not done my reading yet today, but I will be sure to do it soon. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
How long does it take everyone to read their 10 chapters? Depending on how long they are, and on how fast I read, it takes me anywhere from between 10-20. ( normally) sometimes it takes 30 minutes, if I'm writing things down or taking notes.
SavedByGrace
It usually takes me about an hour or more. :) I get distracted pretty easily… :}
His Servant
Same here - it takes me an hour or more to do it as well. I can get distracted, but it's not really that that takes me so long - I'm just a slow reader : |
SavedByGrace
Yeah, I guess I'm a pretty slow reader as well. :P
