Hey everyone - I just found out at http://www.biblebee.org/userfiles/Should%20You%20Host-%20A%20Pre-Application%20Checklist%202013%281%29.pdf that we will have about 50 verses total to memorize this year. I was like "okay….." :P

Does this mean 50 verses, or passages? They could make 50 long verses, or 50 short passages, but 50 verses seems, well, WAY to small!

It said about 24 passages, approx. 50 verses.

Our church's local Bible Bee held January-May requires just about that same number of verses. Although I'm surprised that they would bring the verse number down this low, I'm excited to see if I can get some people from the Triple Tree Bible Bee (the name of our bee) to do the NBB this year.

You have a Bible Bee during Jan-May?! Neat!

Yeah, it's pretty fun. Courtney and I don't participate, but we help out a lot with choosing verses, making the test, etc. It started back in 2010 when our pastor's wife was inspired by Courtney's winning 3rd in '09. There are even small cash prizes for the winners. :)

What do you all think of the new rule that allows 120, instead of 100, contestants to attend nationals? I think it is a cool idea, but I hope they allow more contestants to attend semi-finals. Perhaps they should even have a quarter-finals? :)

Wow! I never heard that before. Maybe it is an attempt to get the number of contestants actually at Nationals back up to around 100, since quite a few people last year that qualified didn't attend. I sure wish they would have done it last year, though… then Luke Purkey would have gotten to go! I sure did miss him last year. :( EDIT: Where did you hear that anyway?

Argh! If they had done that last year, Karthmin/Octavius/Martin would have gotten to go! Oh well, all the more chance that he'll make it this year… :)

I completely understand! :) My brother would have qualified last year had the rule been in effect. I am thankful, though, that they expanded nationals. All the more friends to meet. :)

It is sorta cool! And the more friends is awesome! Wasn't there 20 contestants that advanced to semis the first year? They should do that again… If they had done it for 2012, I would have made it!

You didn't make it in 2011? I didn't know that!

No, I made it to nationals in 2011 but if they had allowed 20 people in semi-finals I would have also made it to semi-finals. Because I came in 19th place.

Well, there'll be more friends, and more competition! exciting :D
