Well, the short version is, I was in a chess tournament in November with a bunch of other CollegePlus students (you may know what that is…) and we were divided into teams. And my team's mascot was Winston Churchill.

Wow! You must be pretty good! I haven't been on chess.com for like a year but the last time I played my online rating was like 1550.

Nice! I only got above 1550 once and I couldn't keep it there for long!

The main thing I'm wondering is, was I justified in pretty much playing my own line to get the checkmate, or am I just lucky my opponent didn't see it? (I'm rather suspecting the latter…)

Well played! I used to use that checkmate a lot, but I found they can way too easily block it with g6 if they've fallen prey to that trick before. So now with the better players I've stopped trying to find the 'quick checkmate' and settled to slower positional play. :)

That's kinda what I was thinking. Works once, but don't count on it. Thanks for the input. :)

My name is Blundermachine. My ratings should be in the 1400-1600 range. Oh, and my brother's name is JaguarAttack and his bullet is 1542. BTW: I haven't gone on chess.com for a while because I have lots of work, so it might take a while for me to accept. :)

What's your favorite opening? I like the English and the Queen's gambit declined for white; for black I like the Sicilian a lot but I don't use it against higher rated opponents because they usually know more theory than me… And the Queen's Indian and Grunfeld are awesome.

I've added you and your brother :) Ok no hurry. I'm pretty busy as well. My fav opening is Queen's Gambit. Though I admit I use it too much. I should learn others better and become more well rounded with openings.

Nope. I have a friend in Chemistry class who does, though.

I used to be able to, but I might have forgotten, I haven't done it in quite a while. Somebody peeled the stickers off the cubes. :P

No… xP I never had enough patience or desire to try to figure it out…

There's only a few brainiacs in the world who can solve a cube without knowing how beforehand, and I'm not one of them. I used the instructions and eventually memorized it. The real workout for most people like me is to remember how to solve it, especially after not doing it for a while.

Yeah, I never cared enough to find instructions either. :P
