I like to sing. I have not had voice lessons, so I may not be qualified as a singer though. No, I do not care to act in the sense of the word that you used.

I haven't had 'official' voice lessons, either. Just a little with our homeschool choir, and I'm also blessed to have two resident voice teachers! But I've never had an actual voice lesson.

I was working on one... but it kind of faded away.

Awwh, that's too bad. What was it about?

For me it's easier to stay motivated because I'm involved with a wonderful Christian theater group, and my play is likely to be performed by one of the classes! :D

It was kind of an Anne of Green Gables story.

This is the best Christian theater ever! (Of course, I haven't been to a Sound and Sight theater) We go to it every time we go to Southern CA. We've gone to about twenty of their productions, and were only disappointed in one, which was written by a younger, different guy.

The man writes his own musicals based off of old classics, and each one of them has a very strong gospel messages. Some of the ones we've gone to are The Swiss Family Robinson, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Pilgrim's Progress, and The Secret Garden.

Okay :)

Cool! That sounds a lot like CYT! Ms. Natalie (the main director of STP-CYT) writes her plays based off old classics, Bible characters/stories, historical figures, and she's also written a modern-day play. The costumes are amazing (she has the largest private collection of costumes in NC!), and the plays are always God-honoring. Ms. Natalie is an amazing woman, and she's been directing for close to thirty years!

I've never been able to actually act like in a play or musical, but I love pretending things at home :)
As for singing… sometimes. Not really though.
Acting for audio dramas? Certainly! Though I've only done it once… in Hoaxapocalypse, I was the lady in the booth.

I'm a vocal music major, so… you guessed it… I like to sing! I've also participated in high school comedies and one college drama (which had music in it), and really wish I could do more. Yes, I really enjoy drama/singing/musicals. :) I'm really hoping that I can get in the big musical my college is doing next year.

I really haven't seen any operettas, but I was in an opera (Gianni Schicci) last year, and am in part of a scene from Mozart's "Magic Flute" this semster. I've learned to enjoy and understand opera a lot better, and really like it now.

I have never seen an opera. I really enjoy operettas… but I have a feeling that you might not enjoy them quite so much. I don't know, maybe you would. They tend to be hilarious at some times (if you understand that they are making fun of different coulter, most often the British). My favorite operattas are by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Acting is fun. I like to sometimes act out monologues, and would totally +_LOVE_+ to be in a musical someday! I also often pretend I'm either a servant or a queen. :)

My college actually did "Pirates of Penzance" two years ago, and we're performing the "Policeman Song" on Friday (I'm the policeman's assistant). :)

Wow, that will be fun! That part is really humorous. wishes she could see it So you haven’t seen the whole thing yet, just going to sing that part?

sings "Go, ye heroes, go to glory,
Though you die in combat gory,
Ye shall live in song and story.
Go to immortality!
Go to death, and go to slaughter;
Die, and every Cornish daughter
With her tears your grave shall water.
Go, ye heroes, go and die!"

laughing
Which song is it? The one "A policeman's lot is not a happy one…" or "Tarantara!"?

The "Policeman's lot is not a happy one". :) I'm just kind of a stand-in part, another guy is doing most of the singing. My main part of the program is a section from Mozart's "Magic Flute" - I'm Papageno.

That would be the part of the "policeman's assistant" like you said. :) I can't imagine you dancing around like that. Haha! Of course every operetta is a little different, but most of them have the policemen as very athletic dancers (standing on their heads, jumping off the walls and such).
Lovely!

We'll, we're not doing it quite like that. :) Actually we're doing it completely the opposite; the goal is to be humorous by being very stoic/unemotional. I guess that's the beauty of creativity; you can interpret a song a lot of different ways on stage. :)

Ddd5aeff0d37e8c2aa9782a6316c57a8?s=128&d=mm

Sarah B.

Yes! Just about every operetta I have ever seen is a little different then the ones before. :)

I also like "Yeoman of the Guard" and "Princess Ida." My Granddad (mom's dad) really likes that kind of stuff too, and he has a big book with the music and lyrics to all the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas! He says next time we go to visit he'll take the family to see a live performance!

So, with opera, what dose it take to learn? Did you really learn another language to sing that part? You must- but did it take a long time? I enjoy listening to the voices, but I find it frustrating when I have no idea what’s going on in a play, and don’t know what’s being said. :/

Edit In other words, if I were to listen/watch opera music long enough, would it just dawn on me what's going on after awhile? That's kind of how it was with operettas. The first time I watched "Pirates of Penzance" I didn't know what was going on, until Mom explained it, and then it made sense… after that I just learned to understand it on my own. :) But it's all in English so it's easier.
