Mr. Cassidy: You might enjoy the book series _Hundred Cupboards_ by Nathan D. Wilson. It's pretty "awesome" and kind of weird, and although there is a little wine, I think you'd like it. :) The first book is the weirdest.
There is wine _inside_ the book?! *AAAH!* What strange sorcery is this?
I think it be the kind that makes you woefully dizzy if you partake.
If you read, or if you partake?
not sure, but there are many tips of false books (aka books with secrete compartments) that you could put wine in. I think that's what they'er talking about.
*AARGH!!!* I knew you'd say something like that. I was just trying to keep from offending your conscience... Oh well. :) (By the way, if you don't like magic in literature, you'll hate the books.) In the second book of the three, somebody (in the story) sips wine (without drunkenness). No, there are no secret compartments (not secrete ones either) And certainly not in the tip of the book. What's the tip of a book anyways? The corner? ;)
I doubt any content of that sort in a christian(?) book could offend me....though I'm not allowed to watch narnia or LOTR because of the witchcraft/magic. ...its funny, I've seen Saving Private Ryan but not Cinderella!

What did you think of Saving Private Ryan, and what is it like?

Amazing movie…watch it

No, I don't give a sheep. I _wasn't_ allowed to watch those....I might be allowed now but really I don't care. And as far as the last statement....?! *I know, confusing. Sorry. Just thought there was a possibility that you _were_ allowed to read the books but not watch the movies. There are several books that I've really enjoyed, but would hate to see the movie (if it were ever made).* I understand not, for my mind is on lower matters.

Well, I had just finished math, so you know…. :)

What meaneth what? The math thing? Studying math at least has the possible effect of making my gray matter soar in the realms of knowledge for a little while. It was [supposed to be] funny. :)

Why wouldn't I want to see the movie? For example, C.S. Lewis' book, Perelandra has a major part where the planet Venus is populated by a couple in the Edenic state. So there ain't much clothin'. The book is great, but a movie should never be attempted. A movie of Gulliver's Travels, ( if true to the book) would also be bad to watch for similar reasons. (Only I didn't really like that book.) I wouldn't want to watch an accurate movie of Frankenstein because of the violence etc.. (Of course, if you watch Saving Private Ryan, that's not a problem to you.) I begged out of the book for liturature. Now I know how boys feel when they have to read Little Women. :)
Sorry for the long explanation.

Also, do you realize how many F words there are in Saving Private Ryan? (I thought I had heard of it before, and asked my dad, that's how I know there are any in the first place.)

Haha! I have friends who did this thing where the sisters in the family would recommend a book for the boys to read, and the boys would recommend ones for the girls to read. At first they were nice to each other and only recommended ones that they thought the other one might, might find interesting… but then the girls started recommending, "Anne of Green Gables" or "Pride and Prejudice," and the boys started recommending books I've never heard of… :) I think the got burned out pretty fast.

I actually think that there are more "boys books" that girls and guys both like, then there are girl's books that they both like. If you know what I mean. :)

Yes, I know what you mean. I like a lot of "boys books" and girls books often get too… squishy. :)

I'm a filmmaker, and I can tell you that making a non-nude movie in that setting is doable, (though I have never done that!)

Frankenstein, though I have never read/watched it, would not be a problem for me seeing as I am not against most violence, (horror movies and overly violent movies excluded)

i do realize that SPR has a lot of bad language. I was disappointed by that, but still I consider it an amazing movie, for it changed my perspective on war etc.

How many movies have you made? I'm sort of a filmmaker myself. :)

Alright. My point was that _some_ parents _might_ not let their kids watch a movie, but they'd let them read the book.

i do realize that SPR has a lot of bad language. I was disappointed by that, but still I consider it an amazing movie, for it changed my perspective on war etc. How so? </blockquote>

Also, what, in your mind, makes all alcohol and magic bad, but foul language and violence acceptable? Just a question, if you think it will make us argue, just don't answer. :)

I have filmed 5, and am in the process of filming the 6th, which is much better than the rest and much higher-budget.

About SPR, not only was it an excellent movie in story, cinematography, etc, but it was very thought-provoking, and made me appreciate the soldiers to died for our country and in the defense of freedom.

I do not have a big problem with alcohol in media, but I do in real life.

Witchcraft is wrong because God says it is wrong. I have seen some risque (in that area) movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I do not often watch movies like that.

I do not think most foul language is acceptable, and I rarely watch R-rated movies (I have seen only about 15). When I do, they usually do not have bad language.

I think action violence is okay in movies because the Bible is full of it. However, I do not base this entirely on "what is in the Bible is okay". If the violence is in accordance to the Bible's standards, then I think it is okay.

I have filmed 5, and am in the process of filming the 6th, which is much better than the rest and much higher-budget. *Nice. Do you direct and film, or just one at at time? I've filmed 5 too! I have an exciting idea for the 6th, but that's for next summer, and I'm not sure if it will work. I need a matchlock gun, and they're really expensive. What kind of camera do you use?* About SPR, not only was it an excellent movie in story, cinematography, etc, but it was very thought-provoking, and made me appreciate the soldiers to died for our country and in the defense of freedom. *OK. Hmm. We disagree on the soldier thing. But, it's fine. Almost no one seems to agree with me on that anyway. :)* I do not have a big problem with alcohol in media, but I do in real life. *Since I know your arguments against alcohol in life, that makes sense.* Witchcraft is wrong because God says it is wrong. I have seen some risque (in that area) movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I do not often watch movies like that. *The trick is the definition of magic. You seem to say that magic = witchcraft, which is, of course, wrong. Tolkien and Lewis would say something like magic = power, which isn't necessarily wrong. From what I've heard, I'd think that Indiana Jones magic is witchcraft.* I do not think most foul language is acceptable, and I rarely watch R-rated movies (I have seen only about 15). When I do, they usually do not have bad language. *Some people don't think 15 R-rated movies is a small number. If you apply your standard for magic to foul language, you'll find that God also forbids foul speech. It is not lovely, pure, just, true, or right. I know there is a time for some language that people consider offensive, but in the little experience I've had with it (in real life as well as media), it is very rarely used with discretion.* I think action violence is okay in movies because the Bible is full of it. However, I do not base this entirely on "what is in the Bible is okay". If the violence is in accordance to the Bible's standards, then I think it is okay. *That makes sense. What would you say are the Bible's standards on violence?*

What do you mean?

  • From what I've heard, I'd think that Indiana Jones magic is witchcraft.*
In the 2nd and 4th, but in the other ones the 'mystical' stuff is Christian, and actually does a good job of it. Definitely the 1st and third are really good, and have lots of Christian stuff in them.

…. If you apply your standard for magic to foul language, you'll find that God also forbids foul speech.
I don't think bad language is okay. I just said the majority of movies I watch do not have F or GD profanities in them.

What do you mean? *For decades, our nation, has been involved in unjust, unconstitutional wars, and the soldier image has been glorified to a state of semi-worship. This irks me, especially since I know some of the truth. But, like I said, I am quite alright with disagreeing on that.* In the 2nd and 4th, but in the other ones the 'mystical' stuff is Christian, and actually does a good job of it. Definitely the 1st and third are really good, and have lots of Christian stuff in them. *Really? That's nice to know. I've never seen any of it. Oh, I was trying to think of an N. D. Wilson book that you'd like, and I thought of _Lepike Ridge_. I really think you'd like his writing style.* I don't think bad language is okay. I just said the majority of movies I watch do not have F or GD profanities in them. *Later. :) And thanks for discussing this with me. It's been good.*

This irks me, especially since I know some of the truth.* How dare you? Defame soldiers that fought for your freedom? You really have no idea what you're talking about, and what irks _me_ is that you apparently claim to be a Christian. I didn't realize that such ridiculousness could be found on a Christian website. I had only thought stuff like that existed only in YouTube comment wars or on a communist blog. Name one unconstitutional and unjust war, and why you should be degrading American soldiers.
