Is there… like… a certain time/thing/situation/whatever you wanna call it of when certain emoticons should be used? Because, as I was thinking about it, I normally don't think hard on what smilie or face I use, I just put one… whatever comes out first. And if so, does it bug you that we just randomly use different emoticons all the time?

No, actually, that makes perfect sense. Most of you here tend to use the emoticons correctly. I admit to being the one who introduced most of the ones in regular use here. The only ones that are somewhat difficult to define are, as follows: xP, x), and xD. I generally have standards in my mind for when I use each one of those, but those are the ones most loosely used (and abused) by the members here. Matthew, in particular, actually, comes to mind as someone who misuses x) very consistently. Nicolas used to do the same, but he's much better now.

Unfortunately, I'd have a very hard time explaining in words when I would use each one of those, so I don't tend to complain much about their misuse. So you can feel free to go on using them as you like. ;)

You didn't ask, but in case you were interested, my favorite emoticon is ^_^.
