Poems about the Bible Bee
Started by Sarah B.God's Maiden of Virtue
Actually, Rachel, in the oral room I was in, they did overlap passages some. It may have just been our room, though. I'm curious as to why that was…
Courtney M.
There was just a few overlapping passages. They really did keep us guessing, for the most part!
God's Maiden of Virtue
Okay, so we weren't the only ones. But we did have quite a bit of overlapping; there was this one person who got most of the same passages I got.
2 Corinthians 5:17
yes, we had some overlapping passages in my room as well, but none of the verses were in the same order so no one knew what they were going to get.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Kinda. I don't think it's *completely* fair though.
Yeah, I think it's better if all the contestants get the same verses, but oh well :)

THE POEM OF A RETIRED BIBLE BEE VETERAN TO THOSE WHO ARE LESS EXPERIENCED:
If planning to participate
Please know the staff are sometimes late
In posting small or large details
On Nationals, Nahum, or whales.
Please do not let this fact deter
Contesting in the near future.
It's true they'll hug you and square dance—
Please do not let this change your stance.
They're always organized and fair…
At least, they try (because they care).
Though not a one quite understands
Why they will make us wave our hands
(We think they do it 'cause they can…)
We all still love Mrs. McMahan.

ON REFRESHING THE BIBLE BEE WEBSITE FOR THE UMPTILLIONTH TIME:
Here I am once more refreshing
This one website: so depressing.
I know that it won't help one bit
yet still I do it while I sit
Here at my screen and wishing really
That I would stop being so silly
It's not like I could go this year
So why watch close and hope or fear?
I ask myself "Why does it matter?"
Yet still I sit here getting fatter.

ON MISSING NATIONALS
We once all went in planes or cars
To take a test on candy bars
Also dentist-like orals test,
Dutch Blitzing, hugs and all the rest.
Though at the time I felt quite sick
If there was one place I would pick
To go this year —if they would tell
Where Nationals is this time— well,
I guess I'd rather go and dare
Waving my hands up in the air
Than any other traveling where
It doesn't give me one nightmare.

LOL! The second and third lines are especially funny (partly because you really have to be in BB to get it :))!

You're really good at making these! :P

Thank you;
I always strive for excellence
As well as trying to make sense.

EDITORIAL COMMENTS ON THE BIBLE BEE WEBSITE:
I just refreshed the page again
I closed my eyes and wished and then
Alas, I opened them and saw
The same old line, the same old flaw:
I ask someone to me convince
What’s “Fun, Fall family experience”
It says we’ll have it there this fall
Not sure I want this thing at all.
I’d like to know, is that their name,
Or tumbling from whence we came?
And then found on the sign-up page
I’d like to know what is the age
Of he who put apostrophe
To possessive “Scripture CD”.
Do CDs own each translation?
I ask of you with the intention
Not to offend you or be rude,
I just don’t want your website sued.
Last, but not least, thank you sincerely
for such a wondrous thing as merely
Announcing this year’s finalists
Not last year, but this fall: plot twists!
I don’t deny predestination,
But still bestow congratulation!
Andrew
Good poem, Margaret. I noticed the last problem, rather funny.

I am beginning to hope that the Bible Bee takes its time in announcing the location for Nationals.
Margaret Eddy
ON GRACEANN SAYING THAT THEY ARE HOPING TO GET THE LOCATION APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS BY MONDAY:
You can be sure that I will pray
For all directors on the board
To tell the Bible Bee they may
(Of God already I’ve implored)
Be finalizing this location
‘cause if I keep this up too long
It will become my one vocation:
Composing words without a song.
I’m praying for humanity
Of people I have never seen
To preserve all our sanity
Beseeching that they not be mean
And please bestow the final stamp
To indicate their full approval
Before the weakening flickering lamp
Of speaking normally’s removal.
(I fear that now if need arose
For me to not speak all in verse
It’d be quite difficult in prose,
And day by day it’s getting worse.)

Thank you; that is quite the compliment.

They're planning to announce it by Monday?!?!?! On cyber-free Monday!

I laugh at your plight! But I think it only right to tell you that she said the location approved, not announced.

Wooo hooo! I hope they announce it soon! :D

The Plea of an Anxious (sorta) Contestant
The National Bible Bee will be held again this fall.
Do we know anything else? No, not at all.
And as the days go by, I fell a bit of stress,
"If they don't decide soon, oh, what a mess!"
You see, I really, really, really, want to go;
And where it is I do not know.
So to any of the staff reading this,
Please announce it soon so the fun I won't miss!
And please don't make it from Tennessee far,
That way I can still come in a car.
And please don't wait 'til after April first;
Because if you do, I'm sure I'll burst!
M27
Not very good quality, I know, but it's from the heart (well, not exactly, but you know what I mean :)).
Andrew
Lol, I think it's pretty good. Maybe you could change the line to "far from Tennesee" and put the name of a car in the next line Lamborghini? :D jk

That would probably explain it. Mine came from my head.

Thanks! What's Lamborghini? A kind of car? I'm not very good with cars. :P

The poem flu must be contagious. Sincerest apologies for exposing you all. Hopefully none of you get it as bad I have.

Too late! It's contagious. I started writing a different one yesterday, but it's kinda weird (weirder than the one I posted), so I'm not sure :).

Sometimes sleeping on it helps. I waited to post the one I did two days ago until yesterday, and I made a few improvements for the rhythm's sake, whereas I didn't wait for the one I posted today, and it's probably the worst quality, though when one is trying to make the whole email to a Bible Bee staff person in verse to communicate what dire straights one is in, perhaps allowances can be made.

I'm posting Saturday's poem tonight. Prepare to weep.
ON BEING AN ALUMNI AND FEELING REALLY OLD
This is the ending
My heart is rending
I guess it’s time to realize
I hold my Nats shirt
Along with beige skirt
A little part within me dies.
I knew that sometime
I must write a rhyme
On saying all my last goodbyes
I put it off long
Because I’m not strong
On writing solemnly or wise.
And so goodbye, cards
From easy to hards
You look like you’ve been through a war
I kept you with me
So I could study
Now you take space up in my drawer.
The commentary
I was so wary
Of tripping over on my floor
Which turned to stacks
Ripe for toe cracks
I’ll never trip on anymore.
And every file
For quite a while
That now I view with sentiment
On my poor laptop
I guess I should drop
Straight into “trash” where last year’s went.
I now arrive
On Google drive
Dispose of every document
With all my feeling
Wishing for healing
The dreadful thing called “tidy bent”.
The one solution
Is resolution
To start studying something new
There’s no suppressing
The sad confessing
I’m not sure if I’ll follow through.
With no more deadlines
That make the headlines
Of websites yellow, red, and blue
I’m at a loss
A little cross
And not quite sure what I will do.
SavedByGrace
In my opinion: masterful. Not that I am much of a poet. I repeat my former sentiment.

I made this poem after looking at my desk.
We've studied Colossians and we've studied 1 John
While studying for Nationals we sleep from 3 Am till dawn.
We've studied Ephesians and we've studied 1 Peter
Now that Nats is over all our desks look neater.
No more millions of papers spread out in a line
With notes about verses like Nahum 3:9.
No more dried out pens from trying to write
Everything we know about a Ninevite.
Now on our desks everything is in its place
Even all our pencils are in the pencil case.
We used to have notebooks scattered everywhere
But now they're all stacked neatly in an office chair.
So although we know messy desks look the worst
All our desks will be messy again starting on June 1st.
