*cries* WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO LONG...!

Exactly! A week ago I was looking forward to having some more time on my hands, but now, I can't wait for the study to start again!

And I can't compete next year *sniff*

I (Danae) competed last year as an 18 year old, so I think for all you 18-year-olds you can compete in your 18th year but it might depend on when your birthday falls before Nationals. (BTW, happy 18th birthday Matthew!)

Also, we really enjoyed our first time at Nationals! And who came up with the in-sync clapping during the opening ceremony? That was really cool!

LOL. That's exactly what I did, but about halfway through Juniors I gave up :).

Yes, I tried to not do it, but I think we naturally try to adjust to the "beat", so I eventually was doing it

I agree… And also, I don't think it went along with the occasion… We sounded more like a rowdy bunch of teens cheering for a sports team - not congratulating kids for their studies in the Bible.

Oh, I didn't mean that I thought that it was sinful. If it makes you feel better, Joy and Delie and I cheered when George, Samuel, and Thomas got their medals; and then we screamed at the top of our lungs when Samuel and Thomas made it to semis :). In Senior finals, we tried to cheer louder than the Bontragers (I don't think they knew about it at the time, though :)). Anyways, that should be enough proof that I didn't think it was wrong to clap to a certain rhythm :).

So you're saying that the clapping was juvenile? The more I think about it, it might not have been appropriate, but I don't think its worth complaining over, unless to advise younger folks not to do it next time. :)

Like I said, we're celebrating everyone for memorizing the Word of God so I think we shoukd keep it somewhat formal, if you know what I mean? And just so you know, I'm not condemning your cheering AT ALL, I actually gave some of my own yells, but I personally felt the Bontragers went a little overboard with the yells ;P (and the Leary kids did, as well, but I'm not trying to pick an argument or anything! Just stating what I thought) anyways, that's just me. I understand we all were super excited and don't mind some good excitement. Does that make any sense? ;) sorry if I'm confusing.

Haha! Yes, we might need to tone it down just a tad next time :). Mommy said that I screamed like a wild Indian after Delie got her last recitation right :). I also screamed really loudly from backstage when Delie made it to finals.

Yes, I'm joking. :P But now you've got me thinking about how to cheer in a more God-honoring way. I totally agree with you that we need to be careful to glorify God, not the contestants.
