1,000 Active Users in Memory Verses!!
We are once more approaching 1,000 active users and this time I believe that we, Lord willing, will make it. How exciting when according to the "one church" leaderboard chart we had not even cracked 500 as recently as June 2010. One easy way to tell your friends may be to forward the recent August Memverse newsletter you received to your friends.
To encourage us to pass the 1,000 active user mark I am setting up a "My friend signed up in August" chart. If someone you told about Memverse signs up (or has already signed up) this month, please let us know on this blog. Please also let us know if you are the one who signs up in August and remember who told you about Memverse!
I realize an over emphasis with numbers can be dangerous. It is possible for us to have 1,000,000 active users and not have right hearts before God! Let's not get out of balance. On the other hand, as a math teacher and a coach for 20 years I love numbers and am excited about the motivation we can receive as we see other like minded believers memorizing Scripture with us and dream big God-size dreams of what He might do through His Word and truth in our lives.

Can we get more than 10 people to help a friend sign up for Memverse this month? At last count, we recovered from our nose dive and set a new record of 994. Many thanks to everyone who spread the word about Memverse at your local competition. It would be very cool to get over 1,000, even if it is only temporarily before we dip again, before we eventually surpass 1,000 for good!! Who will you refer today?

WOW!!!!!!!!!! That's great! I was referred to this by "Josie Cruser". But that wasn't in August...:) Maybe I can refer someone sometime soon!!
Does it count for signing up if someone who has already signed up but has never activated his account becomes active?
this is great!! I referred someone and they signed up August 1st, I'm pretty sure :) I don't know her username though.
Yes, Kaitlyn, it counts as long as they have not been on memverse for 30 days which makes them listed a new re-"active" user.
Rachel, we would love to list you as first on the chart. Can you find out his/her username so that we can list that.
Tomorrow morning (Sat night USA time) Jacky and I will be riding public transportation for 2 hours to a church on the other side of Manila. A pastor there wants us to help his youth group (in their late teens and 20s) learn about and sign up for memverse. We will also be sharing Scripture songs with them. We will be taking our laptop and using a broadband stick. Please pray for our and our laptop's safety; that we will get internet connection; and for the hearts of the youth group we will be sharing with.
Does anyone else have someone at your church you can encourage to memorize Scripture?
I will pray :) And I'll find her username ;)
I memorized 3 new verses today!!!!! Everyday my number is going up! I have SO many verses that I know I'll have memorized on my next reviewing them =D {{happy dance}}
I'm sure there's someone I can refer this month. I will rack my brain to think of some way to get the word of Memverse out to as many people as I can. :) I can't wait until, God-willing, we get up to 1,000 ACTIVE users!! Everyone, get the word out!!
I referred "Octavius", "Rachel", and "Nathan Detwiler," all of whom signed up a few days ago in August--though they haven't yet put me as their referee.
Octavius=August 2nd
Rachel=August 2nd
Nathan Detwiler=August 3rd
I referred their family a few weeks ago, but they just this week signed up.
Our family recorded a radio interview this week about the Bible Bee and promoted Memverse also. Hopefully some more MI users will be joining once that airs.
@BBJ11--an address looks like this: "http://www.memverse.com/?referrer=" and has a username at the end. You can find this on your "Referrals" page, and copy it into an email. If anyone makes an account on Memverse using this, you will be considered as their referrer and it will say so on your "Referrals" page. Hope this helps. :)
EDITED--the link I gave you will just take you to the Dashboard because it doesn't have a referrer after the "=" sign. :)
Praise the Lord! I've referred 2 or 3 people this month but I don't know if they've actually signed up...
Mr Walker...the person I refereed is taking a computer break (but she is still doing Memverse) and I can't find her username. She lives in TX though :)
BibleBeeJunior11 - I can't...(I don't even know her!!!) But there is a group on homeschoolblogger.com that is for Bible Bee contestants...Redwriter (her username on there) and I are the only ones in there and I told her about Memverse....And she is taking a homeschoolblogger break so I can't ask her :( And I've posted on the Staying on Topic... :)
At last count, we slipped significantly from our high of 973 and are currently at 963. Was I wrong about us reaching 1,000 soon? Or can we turn the corner and go back up with more signing up than dropping out?
BrookeNicole, thanks for sharing about memverse. Please let us know if you find out that one of them joins. AmyV, thanks for letting us know about the radio opportunity. It would be very cool if we hear from some who signed up as a result.
Yeah, BBJ11, so we have 100 less verses adding the locals and Nationals together than they do in just the locals--scary!!! ;)
I've been trying to think of people to refer to Memverse, but none really come to mind. I'll keep thinking about it...
I referred Chloe the 2st (I think, might have been the 3rd) of August.
@ Rachel - sorry! :( I'll pray right now. I can imagine the excitement and stuff going on over there.
@ Hannah Teeters - are you the Hannah who won 4th place in the 2010 Nationals?
At last count, we just set a new record of 976 users working on their memory verses!! It is great to have turned the corner after our slip from our previous high of 973 down to 963 had scared me a little. 24 more to go. Who will you refer today?
One of the best things we can do is use the phrase 'memory verses' in our blog posts and comments. It's the number one search term for Memverse and we're still ranked on page 3 in the Google rankings. When last did you click through to page 3 on a search?
Matthew, go to "referrals" under profile in their account, and set yourself as their referrer (or let them do it).
Yes, Simeon, we have taken a nose dive down to 956. I am thankful for all who have invited others to memverse in August and will keep the chart going till the end of the month. Lord willing, we will still be able to turn the corner. Please pray for my efforts here in the Philippines, as results have been a little dry. However, many who are in are memorizing and enjoying it. Praise God!
I just decided to visit my referrals page and guess what?! I have another person I referred! She must have JUST registered, because she's Inactive last I saw. it wasn't there when I was on here a few hours ago. The name is "justbyHismercy" . Hooray!!!
Great, RC! I saw her profile--she or he isn't learning any yet...but maybe they will! So far, we have almost exactly 9,000 inactive members on Memverse! That may not be extremely encouraging, but hey, it's something... :)
Also, I think someone else (from my church) is going to join soon, and I'm almost positive that they will be learning a lot of verses. I don't think she will be counted as my referral, though, since my mom, who doesn't use Memverse, told her about it...
Rachel--go to your account. At the top of the page, at the address, you will see a bunch of letters and symbols, and at the end of it there is a number (in your case it is 7664). Delete that number and type in 8996, and you will go to her profile. You can see everyone's profiles like this. Umm... is that allowed, Andy? I guess I didn't think about the fact that it might not be allowed...
SavedbyGrace: If you click on the name of someone who posts a comment here, you can see their profile, so I believe that is legal...
Josiah--Thanks. I wasn't quite sure...
Rachel--
Q#1:A friend who uses Memverse told me about it.
Q#2:I just search numbers to see what each one is, if that's your question.
Q#3:When I click on your name here, I can see it. :)
Almost nothing to do with the subject at hand, but does anyone remember how to temporarily inactivate my account? I am going on vacation on August 20 for 2 weeks, and don't want to come home to a whole stack of verses! can anyone help me? thanks!
Ruth - instead of inactivating your account...why don't you do this. When you get home from your trip you can click the "Reset Schedule" button...I'm not exactly sure where it's located...but anyway. Thye Reset Schedule button evenly distributes your verses to a manageable number of verses each day ... get it? I've never used this button but that is what I've heard. If you have any questions about the Reset button ask Andy or Alex. And, Andy or Alex, did I say everything right?
Ruth - Rachel is correct. You can't disable your account, but there is a new tool on the "Memverse Today" tab of the home page (when you're logged in) that gives you the option to "Reset Your Schedule" that appears if you have many more verses due than normal. Using this will allow you to make your workload manageable again upon your return. I hope your vacation is refreshing.
I'm hoping to refer quite a few people at the Local BB this Saturday. Maybe then I can get on the referralboard.
Josiah and Rachel, great to hear of your referrals! Matthew, I love your idea of sharing about Memverse at the local Bible Bee. If everyone who regularly checks the blod did that, we would still have a chance to hit 1,000 before the end of the month!! Maybe each of you could bring something typed out to hand out to friends you meet that talks about memverse and gives clear directions and encouragement so they can sign up when they get home.
If we don't get a big boost from the local contests around the country, it doesn't look like we will hit 1,000 this month, but I have a very strong feeling we will go way over 1,000 next month.
I pray everyone will do their best and enjoy themselves at the local Bible Bee.
I dont have any friends to refer. Its not that they don't memorize scripture. They do that alot. Its just i don't think they are comfortable with the idea of memorizing scripture thru the internet. I have 2 brothers and my mom and dad. My brothers have account but they dont use them. ) :
And my mom has an account that she doesnt use but at least she does her own individual scripture memory. My dad is always too busy to get online to memorize scripture. But he does it individually and sometimes in the evenings when he gets home from work if we are not all in bed we sit down for family bible discussions. If i had someone to reffer to memverse that would actually memorize thru memverse I would.
I referred someone in August, Deborah Martin.
@ Naomi, I have trouble thinking of people to refer too. Mostly, because of what you said, I don't think they would use the Internet to memorize.
At last count, we recovered from our nose dive and set a new record of 994 active users. Many thanks to everyone who spread the word about Memverse at your local competition! It would be great to get over 1,000 in August (we are almost there but also running out of time), even if it is only temporarily before we dip again, before we eventually surpass 1,000 for good!! Who will you refer today?
I referred everyone I think wold be interested!! There as only 3 Seniors at our Contest (two of which are already on memverse) and about 6 Primaries. I gave my Memverse referral address to the one Senior so hopefully she joins! :D
Praise the Lord!! Even if there are a few nose-dives before 1,000 users are steady, this is a huge landmark. Congratulations, Dakota, for being the first to notice and comment!
Praise the Lord! That's wonderful that it has finally reached 1,000!
Do you all think that we can have 100,000 verses by the end of the year...or even more than that?!?
That's wonderful! Praise the Lord! I think that 100,000 verses by the end of the year would be a big blessing...but I think that it definitely could be more :) We'll have to see how God works..and how he uses such an amazing tool like Memverse.
@ Rachel Crosswhite and Alex Watt Thanks! We had a great time on vacation - met some relatives in WA. I had never met before and got to spend some time with them. Lots of fun!
So, I'm late... but my cousin signed up on August 6th! Her username is AutumnSapphire96- she's inactive now, though.
Nope, now it's up to 997! We're getting there...just one person at a time :) Yes, I hope when it reaches 1,000 it will stay there, and not keep going down again.
@Matthew - Just in case you didn't notice when you put "awww..." it thinks your putting a web link (www.). Which, of course, you aren't...but it still puts a link there. I had that happen once, and didn't know why, until Alex told me about it :)
EDIT - I didn't realize that when I told you about what you did, I did the exact same thing :)
876 users! What happened?! Maybe, Phil, we need to start another referral competition.
EDIT: I just wrote to Luke Purkey and told him about Memverse. Hopefully he'll join. Then at least we'll have 877!
@Matthew - Thanks for telling us; I hadn't checked that for awhile. You mentioned a couple comments up that you told Luke Purkey about Memverse, do you know if he joined?
I think memverse is the greatest thing i found since the iPhone. I have now successfully memorized 16 out of my current 36. Thanks for making it!
Because of Christ,
Paul
1030 active users! That is really an answer to prayer. Like Matthew said, let's keep it that way! :)
@Bethany Pentimone: I don't think so, he didn't mention it in his email back to me. It would have probably been better to tell him in person at Nationals, but I forgot about it. It's hard to tell people how enthusiastic about something you are by email! I'll keep praying for more referrals, though.
I think we've hit a new high - 1,052 active users! I'll bet the New Year has something to do with it.
Did anyone see what I just saw? We have 1,412 active users, when we had less than 1,250 just two days ago! Someone must have spoken about Memverse at a conference or something like that. Does anyone know what caused the big spike?
@Matthew - Actually, we now have 1428 active users! Wow, it sure went up fast! I have no idea how it went up so fast, but I'm very glad that it did!
Have fun at the film festival; and no, we're not going :) Maybe Courtney would tell me about it in an e-mail when you all arrive back home!
The spike in users was from a link from Challies.com to a blog post by a Memverse user that referenced Memverse. Fortunately we had just rolled out our new, streamlined onboarding process.
We keep hitting new highs - 1,808 today! I'm beginning to strongly suspect that we will break 2,000 active users before too long.
Will your friend be the 1,000th active user to join us??
