2014 Bible Challenge
As you plan the new year, we have a guest post to share with you from Bethany Meckle. We hope you all have a blessed Christmas and enter 2014 with even stronger hope in things not seen, but nevertheless real (Hebrews 11:1)!
The 2014 Bible Challenge is a two part schedule - Part One is a reading plan (read through the New Testament) and Part Two is a memorizing plan (memorize the Sermon on the Mount). You can join Part One, Part Two, or both if you'd like!
The challenge begins January 1st and ends May 31st. The beginning of the year is a good time to get back into the Word if you've slacked off over the year (like I tend to do), or even if you've been going strong all year. I also timed it so that the challenge ends the day before the 2014 Bible Bee studies begins, so it won't conflict with that for any of you who are in the Bee.
If you decide not to join the challenge, please share this anyway with anyone that you think would be interested. The more people the better!
After you sign up below, you should be able to access the Reading and Memory schedules on the confirmation page. (If not, just leave a comment and I'll get them to you.)

This looks like a neat idea. I probably will join at least the reading challenge. I also want to memorize the sermon on the mount at some point though, so I may do that to. @Bethany Is the group for all people doing it or just for the memorizers?
I've joined the group; but when I try to download the material, it just brings me to a blank tab. Is this happening to anyone else?
I already have my Sermon on the Mount Badge but wish to "surf along" the side for a great review.
I have signed up for the reading.
Somehow I failed to get my copy of the reading and the Sermon on the Mount guide.
I don't know where to access it.
Could you send me one or show me where/how to get it.
Thanks so very much for this inspiration.

The files might not load on Google Docs... they didn't load for me once I had signed out of Google. But you should still be able to download them under "File."
Ah... I see. My Internet filter doesn't allow me on anything Google; so, I'll have to get my brother to let me on. ;) Thanks, though! :)
Thanks, Bethany!
@SavedByGrace~ Is your filter manually set up to block Google on your computer? Because if not, woah! Talk about misanthropy!
I just signed up for the Reading Challenge. I'll not be following the suggested plan; I will be following my own plan, but I realized that I'll be reading the New Testament sometime during those months. I started the Bible on December 1st, reading a rather high amount of chapters every day, so I should be finished with the NT sometime in March.
Thanks Bethany for this challenge! I signed up for the memorization challenge, although a bit late. I think I'll be able to catch up, though :) The schedule looks great, and I now have it on my iPad.
I'm still amazed - I had no idea this challenge would end up being such a hit! There are 98 people signed up as of 9:45 this morning.
I'm so glad all of you are doing this! Happy memorizing and reading. :)
Well it is a great idea! And I'm excited about this goal to memorize all of the Sermon on the Mount in several months. I now have the incentive to do it because of the schedule, the fact that others are doing this alongside me, and at the end, if I stick to it, I'll earn a badge ;) Now better get memorizing!
Hi Bethany. Is there a reason that there is no Jan 5th in the Sermon on the Mount memorization schedule? Or did I just miss it? Thanks!
P.S. If it is just me, no big deal anyway, cause I've already memorized the first 7 verses :) I just wondered, because I'm not seeing it, so I don't know what I was supposed to do today.
Oh, wait, never mind. I see that you skipped Sunday every week. Sorry! Didn't realize that until now ;)
Yeah, I left Sundays out just for a little cushion room (in case someone needs to catch up or something), plus there's not as much pressure on Sundays. :)
One of my best friends is doing the reading challenge with with me :) You can put her down as Emily :)
Hey guys! If any of you are interested, a friend sent me a link to a CD from Desiring God that has the entire Sermon on the Mount to music!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure it's in ESV, though, so it won't help those of you using a different version (unless you switch versions). So, hope this helps!
God bless, and happy memorizing/reading! :D
Bethany, Desiring God has a 5 year program for memorizing scriptures. It is called Fighter Verses. The whole first year is set to music and it can be either ESV or NIV. Maybe Sermon on the Mount could be both. I don't know.
I find music is really helpful. They have even included the references in the song.
Thank you, Crystal! I've actually used the Fighter verse program in the past. We didn't get the CDs though, but I think my mom was wanting to get them soon.
Edit: As far as I can find out, the Sermon on the Mount is only available in ESV. And it is actually cheaper to go directly through Children Desiring God to order the CD. (http://www.childrendesiringgod.org/resources/resource.php?id=16&productPageId=1)
Happy 5th Birthday, Memverse! (as of yesterday)
Andy and Alex - thank you so much for this wonderful site. I love using the memorizing and review tools, the live quizzes, the forums, and the encouragement you offer during Bible Bee season =)
God bless you in this ministry! =)
I'll second that, Thanks Memverse. (which includes thanks to those people who make memverse possible)
Dear Memverse,
If I were to write out a list of the most influential things in my life so far, you would be near the top. How could a website have so much impact? Of course, you have been of incredible help in my Bible studies. Thanks to you, I can now continue to keep many verses in my repertoire that I probably would have forgotten otherwise. Especially in the 2012 Bible Bee, your memorization system was perfect to help me keep my verses down pat.
However, even with all the help that you've given me with memory work, it pales in comparison to the friends I've made through you. Some of my very best friends I probably would not have met without Memverse. I'm not going to give names, lest I forget some or am seen as partial, but my good friends reading this may know that I'm referring to them.
Also, I can't forget the help you've given me in releasing the practice tests we've made over the past few years. They have been a big help to so many people!
HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY MEMVERSE!!!! May this only be the beginning!
Sincerely,
Matthew Minica
Happy birthday Memverse!!
Besides for everything Matthew just said - if it weren't for Memverse, I probably wouldn't be in the Bible Bee. Before Memverse, I memorized Scripture only because I had to. Without Memverse, I wouldn't have memorized (and retained!) nearly as many verses as I have.
THANK YOU MEMVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, I will be dropping out of this. I have stopped doing it. It was nice when I was using it but combined with my daily bible reading I am already doing, it was alot. Please remove me from the list.
This is the first time I have commented on the Memverse blog but I wanted to let you know what a blessing Memverse is as well as are the New Testament Reading and the Sermon on the Mount memory challenges. Never in my life had I dreamed I would memorize an entire chapter in the Bible much less three (and that's not including the many other verses I have memorized with the help of Memverse)! I am well on my way as I am following the schedule Bethany made up - it is soooo helpful! I also like that the NT daily readings are rather short which allows me to actually do some studying on the portion of scripture and not just read through to check it off the list. Thank you to Bethany and to the creators of Memverse. God is using you to help me hide His word in my heart as never before!
Done tonight! Great job, everyone! Whether you made it all the way through or made it half way through, you're all winners. :)
Until next time, God bless and keep reading and studying!!!
These memory projects are a great idea. I've just started to memorize the book of Nehemiah. I'm not sure yet when would be a good goal to have it all memorized by. Maybe we could start one called the Nehemiah Project. Would anyone like to join?
Thank you so much for posting this, Alex!
