Did you get the email from the Bible Bee?
2 Corinthians 5:17
So you're doing it for the first time? xD

How is everyone else going to study John 1-6 for three weeks? Are you going to start it on your own or wait for the SG? I'm not sure what to do. (This is totally a new thing, to have the book announced and not have the study materials!)
2 Corinthians 5:17
It is very different, for sure! I plan to do my own Nats type study, I think…also work on memorizing it. :)
Everett C.
I'm just gonna try to memorize as much of it as possible, learn the historical context, and thoroughly understand all of it.
Emma
I'm doing what Rachel and Everett are doing. :) I wonder how many people are going to wait for the SG.
Esther Grace
John 1-6! Neat.
So the tests are 100-200 questions long, not 30 questions? And they'll try to release the SG and verses early? That's nice!

I am. :D
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yay! :D

Yay! :D
I'm driving my mom crazy with my excitement. :P She keeps telling me to settle down… :P

I had a question about last years study books Jonah… Did it say if he was dead or alive in the fish/"whale"?/what is your personal opinion on that? Cuz I heard a preacher on the radio who thinks he was dead & then brought back to life at the end of the 3 days, and it really got me thinking… :D ^tell me if you think this is more theology type discussion…^
Emma
In Jonah 2:1, it says that "Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish." I think he was alive.
Hannah Hope
In Jonah 2:1, it says that "Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish." I think he was alive.
Ok!! I'm going to try to listen to him again today, to see how he continues with his view on that. :D ^i am not saying I agree with him… Gonna have to do a lot of studying… :P^
But the verse which he uses is the one after that ^2:2^
And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me, out of the belly of hell ^some versions use "grave"^ cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
How he made his point was that hell and the grave are for people that are dead. Not people that are still living. And he easily could have prayed as he was sliding down into the fishes belly. I sure wouldn't have waited to pray until I was all the way down. I woulda prayed soon as I was in the mouth. :P
So it just really got me thinking about the verse, and I was just curious what the rest of y'all thought. :D
2 Corinthians 5:17
Was that J.V. McGee on BBN radio? XD I know he's going through Jonah on there right now. He's a great preacher!
And I'm not sure…I think he probably was alive, because of Jonah 2:1, but he could have been blacked out too :P
Hannah Hope
Yup!! :D he is. One of my favorite preachers. I listen to RBN. :D ok!! :D

Did anyone get an email about who is writing the SG? A friend of mine said she got one saying that it's being written by past BB winners, contestants, and parents, with other volunteers. I haven't gotten it, though, so I was looking for some sort of confirmation?
Logan
How would you memorize John in such a way that you would be able to best recall it for questions on the test? Would you memorize it in such a way as to recall each verse individually?
Emily H
He has said several times on the webinars that the SG is being made by past BB participants, homeschool grandparents, christian school teachers/principal, and others. I'm not sure about an email though.
Febah M.
Ah, okay, thanks! I've missed most of the webinars since May 11th, so that explains it!

How would you memorize John in such a way that you would be able to best recall it for questions on the test? Would you memorize it in such a way as to recall each verse individually?
From my experience with 1 & 2 Timothy, 1 John, Ephesians, Jonah, etc….
You don't need to worry too much about having the verses memorized individually (in other words, have a specific reference attached in your head to each phrase). If you memorize the chapters well, you will know where they fall in the passage and will get a feel for which verse is which with out actually consciously attaching references to them. I noticed this especially with Jonah and 2 Timothy, which were the books I memorized the best. Does this make sense?
For the record, I would define "well-memorized" as being able to recite the whole book/passage to another person without prompts (or only a couple prompts) and not leave out more than a few words and recite the book out loud many times over the course of your study repetition is essential.

I have a question for you Bible Bee-ers. Since we have about three weeks before we get the study guide, what would be the best way to study John 1-6 until then? Any suggestions or tips? Thanks so much! ~Holly C. Bible Bee-er since 2009

Good question. It's up to you. With my method of memorization I can index each individual verse but it takes a lot of work. Most likely I'll memorize it straight through and then learn the verses in groups of five. So I would memorize John 1:1-5 and then if a question was asked on John 1:3, I'll just kinda figure out where that verse is in the group of five. Not as great as being able to recall each verse individually, but it's good enough :)

The website is totally new!
Emma

Woahhhh… they changed the logo! :( I wonder what the new shirts will look like.
2 Corinthians 5:17
I know… =( I wish they would have kept the original logo for THE Bible Bee, and had the "souped up" one reserved for the Game Show. I've been wondering that too!
Emma
Haha… if you go to signup it takes you to the old website. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
I know :D Do you see where we can log into our family control panel from the new site? I can't find it.
Emma
Top right corner.
Emma
If you login and then logout, it brings you to the old website, too. :)

Tonight, as well as all day Friday and Saturday, I'm going to have the opportunity to help out at an exhibit that SKF is sponsoring at our local homeschool convention! I'm really excited about this opportunity to spread the word about the Bible Bee! :D Please pray that I would be able to reach many people for the glory of God!
Emma
Nice! I'll be praying! :)

Have any of you seen the new Bible bee website?

WOW they've really changed it!
Charge901
Yeah. It is also easier to navigate than the last one, I think. It's pretty cool!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yup! Very different.
Esther Grace
They even changed the logo.
ZachB
I didn't like their previous design, but this one looks really nice.

Hi everyone, we just signed up for the Bible Bee this year, and I am now confused about a few things. Do you guys already have your study materials (Bible Study, Verses, etc…), or is the study materials you get around June 1st something different? Or, is it just a mistake (where it says you receive them around June 1st), and you really don't get them yet?
ZachB
Hello Isaac,
The Bible Bee materials will be released online on biblebee.org from your account panel on June 22. They released the book we are studying on June 1st. The passage of study this year is John 1-6, not a whole book.
Isaac
Ok, yes, thanks, I just found some info on the faq page too.
ZachB
yep you're welcome.
Happy studying! :)

Welcome to the forums, Holly! I have approved your first post; all future posts will be automatically approved.
I'll let the others answer your question, but I hope you enjoy the Bible Bee this year as much as ever. Summers immersed in Scripture are beautiful summers.

Welcome to Memverse, Holly! :) Have you ever qualified? What division are you in? :)
These three weeks, I'm working on getting a good start to memorizing John 1-6, doing somewhat of a Nationals type study…basically, getting really familiar with the passage =)
Everett C.
In my opinion, the best thing to do is memorize it. It'll help a lot if you have it in your head because you can easily answer any direct question on the text. Also I would research the historical context and read the other Gospel accounts during these three weeks.
Matthew Minica
It's you!! :D Welcome to Memverse, or the forums, anyways! If you plan to stay for the social aspect, you might want to post an Introduce Yourself topic. :)
In answer to your question: I've been memorizing John 1-6, reading it in different versions, looking up cross-references in my study Bibles, researching the context for all the different people and places mentioned, and so forth. I probably won't do any Greek word studies quite yet, as I think the Study Guide will have some of those. Oh, I also read through John's epistles this afternoon, and will probably read through the rest of John and even Revelation; it's a great way to get a good grip on John's style of writing. :)

I finally got around to finding our Contestant IDs. xP
Emma
What are they? We are 74, 75, and 76. :)
Matthew Minica
Ah! Y'all beat us!! =P We're 84-89.
