Bible bee confirmed with me that they are doing alternates this year!!! :D :D :D So our friends who are close to qualifying may get to go!!

Thankfully it looks like a lot of the verses are repeats from previous years. That helps.

Oh, I'm only looking at Seniors, but it seemed like there are repeats going all the way back to 2009. There aren't many repeats from last year.

That should make it easier!

A lot of the repeats, though, are from the older age groups in those years, so I guess you wouldn't know them. There are several passages that Seniors had in 2009 and now again this year.

My mom says that they say that the study passage for nationals (which is John 7-12) is about 2/3 down the email they sent.

They moved Nationals to November 17-21 now…

Hello, This is Mrs. Chew, Everett and Jarrett Chew's mom.
I just got off the phone with Mr. Upton concerning the recent change of dates.

I have two important requests:

1. Mr Upton says that if this new change causes hardship to the extent that you cannot participate in the BB now, that you ought to email HQ to let them know. Not if this is just inconvenient, b/c they recognize that it is inconvenient for everyone. But because these new dates and times are FIXED and cannot change, if it impacts your ability to participate, they need to hear from you. I should mention that I spoke at length with Seth, who is handling customer service, and Mr Upton confirmed that I was given inaccurate information, so it is very possible that if you already called, he also gave you wrong info. Seth had said that those arriving later than the regis period can be accommodated. It is not true. At this point, we already bought our plane tickets and our arrival is later than the regis time so we actually cannot compete as of now if things stand as they are. So if you were told that you can arrive later and it's ok, it is wrong. The times are fixed. If this affects you, I urge you to contact HQs asap.

2. If any of you were involved in the BB 2009 or2010, I need to talk with you asap. I want to know what the scheduling was b/c I know they expanded it to an extra day in 2011 which was our first Nationals participation. If you can tell me how the scheduling was when the competition spanned 2 days instead of 3, I'd appreciate it.

In my opinion, and I'd like to know yours, a better solution than to change dates, is to condense the competition and eliminate some of the "extras". If we need to double up and put events on the same day (such as prelim and semis on the same day or semis and finals on the same day, or regis and prelims same day) or even divisions simultaneously, although it's not ideal, it is possible and will affect people less than changing dates and now they cannot even attend. Basically, if you were traveling to SA on Wed, you cannot compete.

Please spread the word to your other BB families what I said in no. 1 above so they will contact HQs if it creates hardship. If they don't hear from us, it all stands as is. If they hear from enough families, it sounded like they will listen.

Hi, this is Vivian, Marija's mother.

We already have plane tickets purchased with us arriving in the afternoon of the 17th. This gives us no wiggle room for flight delays.

Lori, I purchased the tickets through a broker site. I did call and found out that we can change them for $50-100 per ticket. I haven't made the changes, yet. I will be doing it soon. I figure it is not worth getting there too late, even a day late is always possible.

I agree, condensing events makes more sense. We were there in 2010 and the schedule was busy, but doable.

I did ask Seth if anything was going to change as we didn't have an official invitation yet and he assured me we were good. I have to presume that I hadn't specifically brought this up. Nonetheless, it is challenging.

I also noticed that events are only listed through November 20th, and not through November 21st as stated in the email. I had spoken to Rachel who said that there may be a worship service in the morning as there has been in the past.

I am also very concerned about being notified about alternates as I have two on the verge of being called in. I am not getting clear info on that. Rachel did confirm that they have not had anyone decline yet as they have not sent out invitations. I just wish we would have clearly understood that there was a possibility of alternates being called.

I think the alternate situation and needing to buy additional tickets for my other children is my biggest concern. I also want to be sure there are no other changes.

Also, in terms of accommodations for late arrivals. I know for certain that in 2010, they did accommodate people who arrived late. There were several with car trouble just getting to Nationals. I don't know if there were "scheduled" late arrivals.
