OOC: Just stick your leg out when he moves. That's simple enough that you won't get distracted from your sword fighting.

^Exactly! That works, right?

OOC: Block one dude, and stick out your leg at another? That's weakening your stance, probably resulting in you falling. And, with the time you take sticking out your leg, the dude you're blocking would hit you, Did they come in sequence? One ran up to you first, and you side-stepped and tripped him, then coming 'round to block the other?

OOC: Yes! JK The guy entirely expected me to be disarmed because of my exposed condition; he wasn't prepared for my sudden blow, so he was disarmed.

Hiruko Kagetane

OOC: It could work. But, I'm hesitant to say so. However, I'll let it slide. But, you'd have been lucky this time. He probably would have gone for a straight lunge, and you manage to crosscut.

SavedByGrace

OOC: Fine, I'm lucky it worked. :P Guess it won't count well on Ardren's tally.

IC: the last two men approach; the first swings from the left side, and I deflect; the second attacks with a swing from above my head, but I meet it with such force that he stumbles back two paces

OOC: Come ON! Give me a little slack, or I'll be in an endless battle! I'm trying hard to be realistic, but I want to get it done somewhat quickly. :P This is only the first of who knows how many tests! :P

OOC: Why waste time? :) *the men look around confusedly until I land silently behind them and take their swords* Does that mean I succeed? *the two men look at me in utter shock, and I put down my hood*

@NickKnack~ An example of the tendency you two have of being Overpowered. :P Dude, if you're flipping over me, I'm gonna look at you while you're moving. And slash you when you land. I'm not going to make Ian redo his move, but seriously. These aren't a bunch of farmhands you're fighting. These are experienced fighters. This isn't Dynasty Warriors. :P

OOC: Fine… I'll try a bit harder to be realistic. :P

IC: the second man recovers and slashes at my sword hand; I dodge, but nearly fall as a result
the first man sees me stumbling, and swings; I bring my sword up in time to block, but fall flat on my back

OOC: Better, but you don't have to beat up on yourself either. Here's what might have happened, if I was controlling the men.

Man #1: swings an overhead chop at you
You: horizontal deflection, so that the blade slides over to my right, as I move
Man #2: crosscut from the left
You: parries to the side, and diagonal cut from the man's lower right side, to his upper left, taking him out of the fight

Perhaps I'm too comfortable with swordplay, and this is confusing.

OOC: the sword fighting in the RP will be tricky since it is a series of complex motions that must be turned into a string of words and then translated back in to imaginary motion. I think these two things will help

  1. Detail is vary important. Try and describe the stance and body position so that no detail is left out what.so.ever.

  2. Try to keep the perspective on one side of the fight. the opponents are facing each other, creating two sets of right and left so it will be easy to get right and left confused.

I recreated the event in my mind and found one nit picky detail that was left out. You said moved but did not tell us in which direction he moved. Reading between the lines it must have been a ½ side step to the left (you/my/I 's left).
Other then that I could see it happening perfectly.

OOC @ Saved by Grace
I'd advise you to roll on your side and get up on your elbow, then make a “4” with your legs (make the triangle with which ever lag is underneath). This is probably the best position to fight them from And you can get to your feet quickly.
As for fighting them; your best bet is to injure an ankle, But get up as soon as possible.

93fcb35bede1ac128cb83b71e8060885?s=128&d=mm

SavedByGrace

I roll on my side, get up on my elbow, and make a 4 with my legs, getting me in a better position to fight
I deflect the next blow and get up on my feet, kicking at the ankle of one of the attackers; this causes him to fall to the ground and drop his sword as he grips his ankle in pain

OOC: There ya go. :P

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

OOC: That worked well. Congratulations! your back to normal sword fighting.
For future reference: I kinda meant that an ankle blow would be best if you were fighting them from the ground (the ankle being a joint with no armor and with in sword range). But kicking him still works.

Guess I'll buzz off now. see ya. :)

SavedByGrace

OOC: I don't think I'm supposed to seriously hurt these guys; I'm really just supposed to disarm them. :P But thanks so much for the help! :)

IC: deflects the next blow of the last man, summons all his strength, and jumps spinning into the air, planting his foot firmly in the man's chest; the man flies backward into a wall and is stunned, dropping his sword

2 YEARS LATER

This was stupid. James thought with a frown. As Guards in the Order of the House of Gryphon, he and Turner had been assigned to protect the family of Lady Eryana. That also involved helping the local law enforcement when necessary. As of late, there had been several raids on caravans of goods owned by Lord Garrett, Eryana's father. He had the local Alavarian Guards tracking down the bandits responsible, and had his Quartermaster, Sir Malcom, handpick select Guards of his Order to accompany them in their pursuit of the raiders. As James and Turner were some of the most capable, they were sent along with 3 others of the Guard, to aid in the attack against the raiders, who called themselves Goldor's Men, led by a man assuming the name of a legendary thief of old. They had tracked them to a remote area southwest of Kolath City, near a small town known as Knollwood. The bandits had oppressed the inhabitants nearly into nonexistence, and used the city as their base of operations. Therefore, the Guards needed a man on the inside to infiltrate the network of Goldor's Men, and to learn the best time to strike.

As he was the most agile, and the most capable at acting, James had volunteered to go. He had went in, posing as a wandering mercenary, and had been accepted into their ranks. He had learned that they were planning on attacking Briarton, another small village and home to a successful emerald mine. He had relayed the information to Turner, who was posing as a storyteller at the local inn, and was about to leave the city when it had happened. He was paying a debt he owed to one of Goldor's lieutenants when he accidentally gave the man a silver yukan. Such coinage was only used by the upper-class of Alavaria, and he was discovered. The man had immediately raised the alarm, and James was forced to hide in the town, as Goldor's men didn't allow anyone out while they searched furtively for James. He was used to hiding…except for his most recent choice of a hiding spot. He had been on the run from a group of bandits, and run straight into Goldor's headquarters. Fearing he'd be discovered, he hid in the first spot he'd found…a chimney. It was tight and cramped, and…he heard the sound of logs being placed into the fireplace…

OOC: Wow. Interesting, and it will help the story continue, but um… why go ahead two years into the future?

3efdb816df3c53b20fed57ee9b4779f0?s=128&d=mm

Hiruko Kagetane

OOC: A fast way to tie up all the loose ends. Otherwise, you'd have to continue that story, and wrap it up, which would take more time.

2e50a495c286814b1cf94a1e725f50fc?s=128&d=mm

Ian R.2

OOC: I see. Good plan. :)

IC: James knew that if he didn't get out of the chimney soon the cramped space would be the least of his problems Come, on, James, think! What did you learn when you were younger that could help you now? He then noticed the cracks in the chimney, lots of cracks Okay, this will be like climbing those cliffs; except it's a much tighter squeeze. he started climbing, finding a handhold here, a foothold there, until we was five feet from the top

3efdb816df3c53b20fed57ee9b4779f0?s=128&d=mm

Hiruko Kagetane

OOC: Not sure if he'd need cracks, since the chimmney is that tight, but, whatevery floats your boat. :)

IC: the air beneath James gets hotter, and smoke begins to drift upwards

appears in a dark alley beside the house and whispers loudly to James James! It's me, Turner! Come this way, quickly!

93fcb35bede1ac128cb83b71e8060885?s=128&d=mm

SavedByGrace

Yes, I am perfectly well; but I was afraid you were not! I saw you hide in the house, then saw them go in to get you. I wasn't certain what to do, but you suddenly appeared on the roof! Now come, we must get out of this place; they will soon realize you are gone! I have our horses ready at the edge of the town. Let us go!

93fcb35bede1ac128cb83b71e8060885?s=128&d=mm

SavedByGrace

Yeah, we be fine!

OOC: Hey, it's great that you want to be in this; but at the moment, this thread is exclusively mine and Ian's. If you want an RP Training thread of your own, just ask Sam! :)

All right, we might as well go since we are found out. starts walking quietly toward the edge of town, and whispers We better be careful though. I'm not sure if those were the guys who were after me or not, so we better keep our eyes open.
