2 Corinthians 5:17

This is what a BB email said about the choir:

Those of you with vocal skills may be interested in participating in musical/narrative performance that James Kenniv is creating for the Closing Celebration Ceremony this year. There will be a 20 minute musical presentation involving an SATB choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) along with the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, flute, oboe, clarinet, piano, electric bass, percussion. Performers do NOT have to be Bible Bee contestants or immediate family. Those that wish to audition for the choir or orchestra need only to email James Kenniv for instructions on how to audition at jkenn4@mac.com. When you email, please indicate what part you sing. Written copies of the music will be sent in advance (via email) for practice purposes. There will be 2 or 3 short, group rehearsals at Nationals before the performance. This will be a wonderful opportunity to lift our voices together in praise to our Heavenly Father. We look forward to worshiping together with you at Nationals!

One friend told me she had to say her name, what part she sung, what experience she's had, and then sing a song.

yay! :) Well, I may have auditioned for the choir, but sadly, we won't be able to go to Nationals ;'( ;'( (We were planning on going, but now we can't so it's pretty disappointing to me) So, no, I did not.

I don't know about the choir, but the orchestra music is quite advanced. :P Especially "The Light Has Come"!

What instrument do you play?

I play violin and I think, at least for my part, that "The Light Has Come" Is the easiest one :)!!! I think that "Joyful Joyful" Is the hardest. What do you think? It is advanced but I like a challenge :P!

Christine Daaé (Dani the Older)

That was the only song I liked… I kind of like the Rev. 4:11. But seriously, 'Joyful, Joyful' and 'O Worship the King' have great tunes already! Why did he have to ruin them?

Our family is seriously considering dropping out of the choir.

I play the violin too. For me, "The Light Has Come" is difficult because the time signature on the first page changes, like, every two measures. :P Also there are lots of accidentals. Yes, I love challenges too! :D Although it would've been nicer if we had gotten the music sooner…

Hannah W. (Adelaide)

Which violin? I am violin 2 so mine might be easier. Yes! It is so confusing how he did that :P! I haven't had much of a chance to look at the music so I probably missed the accidentals. Yes, I was getting really nervous about the music yesterday and that it had not come in yet :P! Now not much time to practice…..

I play violin 3. And we have sixteenth note arpeggios for measures 21-36…the first and second violins only have eighth notes!

"Joyful, Joyful" wasn't as bad as I expected. Have you tried it with a metronome? That really helped me, since I never played in 7/4 time before. And those 7-note slurs, the septuplets or whatever they are - aren't too bad if you bow them slowly at first. :) Seconds have to shift in the middle of those slurs, right?

Hannah W. (Adelaide)

Yeah :). Yes I have but it is hard with that 7/4 time. I have never done that before :(. That metronome will help though. I don't like those slurs!!!!!!! I have to shift in the middle and it is hard!!!!! Yes we do shift a lot in that song! The only songs that are easy all the way through, for me, is the Acts one and the Light has come.

Well, I have to go now :( It was nice talking to you :)! BYE :)!!!!

I don't like some of it… O Worship the King is kind of weird. :P And I don't like repeating the same thing over lots of times either.

I've not even looked at all the music yet. :P I like the 7/4 time in Joyful, Joyful though! There was one in 2011 with 7/4 time, and that one was super fun. :D

@Dani - Why do you think the tunes are ruined? It's just a different tune to the same words.

@Emily & Hannah - The "do-dooing" is kind of weird, :P but it's simply accompaniment with voice, which you might not be used to but sounds pretty good when you're not the one singing it. :)

I agree (somewhat :P it's still weird to hear it :P) but the problem is, I am the one doing it :P And it doesn't sound good at all then :P :P

I like the music style. O Worship the King was a little odd to start with, but I think it is going to sound great. The harmony parts should end up sounding a lot like instruments. Mr. Kenniv is a good composer and seems to know what he's doing. I have heard multiple songs done like that, where you wouldn't believe there were no instruments because a bunch of people were singing "do doot" in the background.

I agree completely :)! Are you singing in the choir? Or are in the Orchestra?

@ Hannah: Lord willing, a sister, two of my brothers, and I will all be singing in the choir. I am very untalented in musical instruments and am really impressed with all of you who are playing in the orchestra. Way to go!

@ Dani: I understand your concern with changes in old hymns and the odd singing styles, however, I think you should reconsider why you really dislike it. I also prefer the old hymns, but have learned recently to appreciate newer styles that have good lyrics that are doctrinally sound.
It is my belief, that the major concern with music is that it be in harmony with the words. For example, a country song about wicked lifestyle shouldn't have a tune that makes you want to dance or laugh. Also, a song about Christ's work on our behalf shouldn't have a sound that makes you want to go hit somebody. The choir music, in my opinion, is nothing like this. The words, tune, beat, and key all line up and make a beautiful sound. It is certainly not good for congregational singing, but that is not the intention. It is nothing like rock music in any way that I can think of and I very strongly doubt that it will ever be.

Almost totally off subject, has anyone heard of Sacred Harp?

029f1ffd1f1323c3b8c78b4c533ab231?s=128&d=mm

Hannah W. (Adelaide)

Well, I think that is a little exaggerated! I understand your concern about the old hymns being "remolded" But a rock band? That just doesn't seem reasonable……

(Please don't be offended just my view :)!)

Good :)! I am sure you are good ;)! Thanks :)! Have fun singing in that choir! What part do you sing? And your brothers and sisters?

No I have never heard of that….what is it?
