Study the book really good and Cross refs…

And try to be at least really familiar with the Greek/Hebrew words…

Hi, welcome to Memverse, my name's Everett. What age division are you in?

  For the test, it's good to memorize the study book and all the facts in the Sword Study, but make sure you understand everything and don't get caught up in just the memorization because the test is made up of both knowledge and comprehension.  I agree that some of the questions on the test are confusing and sometimes it's (really) hard to understand what they're trying to ask. For the hard questions I usually use process of elimination based upon what I already know, but I always spend more than 20 seconds on a questions, so if I can't figure it out in time I mark it with a question mark and come back to it later. At locals, they didn't allow us to write on the test (even though you are allowed to), so when I finished, I didn't know what questions to come back to. Here are a few more things to watch out for (keep in mind that this is my perspective of the test; others may see it differently):

1. Paraphrasing and generalization. One thing that makes the test hard is that the choices are not always clear. This may be because the test is not based upon one particular Bible version. I have found that many times it uses a word that is not found in any of the translations but is a synonym to one or all of them. Also, some of the choices are very vague because they use one word that describes a whole phrase, verse, or chapter.

2. General Bible knowledge. Sometimes the test includes some questions on general Bible knowledge. Most of them are pretty easy but just so you know…

3. Questions with no specific reference. You will probably encounter a lot of questions that don't cite a particular reference. Sometimes it's no reference, and sometimes it just a book or chapter. These questions are really hard because you need to figure out which passage the question is on.

Try to create a summary or just pick out key words or central themes. Just memorize the summary and understand how it relates to the topic your studying.

Hi Everett! We have two in Senior and two in Junior. Thanks so much for all the advice!

We'll be taking your advice. We hope to get to the finals this year as well. Jonah has been (to us) the easiest book to study so far, but we know that the test can be confusing and especially since we only study out of the KJV.

Why do you have two accounts?

One is just for Bible Bee and the other is more for long term projects like memorizing whole books. It's so that they don't get mixed together which would be very confusing especially during Bible Bee.

Sorry, I asked that question and then forgot where I had asked it. Yes I was on week six; I am in my blitz-through-the-sword-study-and-don't-retain-much step (besides skipping all the Apply sections). I will go back through and do a much better job of it afterward.

Could the "what" be that Nineveh repented…which was the whole reason he didn't want to go, and why he left for Tarshish?

I think I said something like that, but I had this feeling of vague outrage because I couldn't even tell what they were asking and I knew that somehow it could be asked in a much better way, but they had muddled me so badly that I couldn't think how.

Does anyone know how the local Bible bee is being scored this year?

I didn't find anything in the Competition Rulebook, but I assume that the test will be scored like the previous years, 3 points for every correct question.
