Okay, this isn't exactly a riddle, but we need something challenging over here. :)
So you are in a room, and on one of the walls are three light switches in a row, all of which are in "off" position. One of these switches turns on a lamp in the next room (just a normal lamp with a regular light bulb), the other two do nothing. There is no possible way to see inside the room or to see the lamp from where you are. You can do whatever you want with the switches, but eventually you must leave the switches in a position of your choice and walk through the door into the room where the lamp is and determine which switch actually turns on the light bulb. Once you walk through the door there is no going back and flipping the switches again - you have only one chance. The goal is to know exactly which switch turns on the light bulb. What do you do? No other information is necessary to solve this puzzle.
EDIT Now no other information is necessary. :) ^Hopefully…^
Emily H
Do you not know which way is on/off?
Seth W.
Oops, sorry - yes, they all start in "off" position.
Emily H
Can you just turn them all on, or do you need to know exactly which one turns on the light?
Seth W.
No - the goal is not to turn on the light, it is to determine which of the three switches actually activates the light.
Emily H
Ohh, okay x)
Seth W.
Here's an easy more traditional riddle;
I am the first of Earth and the second of Heaven;
Although I appear twice in every week, you can see me only once in a year,
For I hide in the middle of the sea.
What am I?
Emily H
E! xD

On the light switch question: You take off the switch plate and find which switch is connected both to the electricity and to an out-going wire??? That's the one that connects to the lamp. (Pardon my non-technical terms.)
Seth W.
No, nothing that complicated. :) You aren't able to trace the wires or anything like that.
Evie, Child of Grace
Argh. I had a feeling.
Is there a trick, or is it a nice, respectable riddle, may I ask?
Everett H
I know! break two of them; then you flip the other one on. Go into the room: if the light is on the the answer is the swich you fliped on, if it is off, then the answer is none of the light swiches can any longer turn the light on. : )
Emmy
Lol! xD
Everett H
: ) well, that would work!

Two brothers we are: great burdens we bear,
By which we are heavily pressed;
The truth is to say, we are full all the day, _
_And empty when we go to rest.

I was going to say the intestines, but I don't think that's right. xP

I'm agreeing with Courtney on this one. Intestines. Or, if you're a sciency type person, your guts! :D

There is a word in the English language in which the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four signify a great man, and the whole word, a great woman. What is the word?
Sarah
Turn on the first switch, wait a couple of minutes, then turn the switch off. Turn on the second switch and walk into the room. If the lamp is on, the second switch turns it on. If the lamp is off, but the lightbulb is warm, the first switch turns it on. If the lamp is off and the lightbulb is cold, the third switch turns it on.
Sarah B.

Thanks for telling us. We're still thinking about it. ;) Hehe!

_There is a word in the English language in which the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four signify a great man, and the whole word, a great woman. What is the word?_
"Heroine"
Seth W.
Any good riddle topic needs at least one murder mystery. :)
A man was found lying dead on the floor in his room with the fateful bullet still in his body. The autopsy confirmed that he died instantly. The room was remarkably bare - a writing desk with a few sheets of paper on it, a chair, and a broken pencil lying on the ground. There was no firearm in the room. The only door was heavily bolted from the inside and had not been broken into, and the only window was shut, but not locked. However, this man's apartment was on the twentieth story of the building, and though other tall buildings surrounded it there was no possible way that someone could have climbed in or out of the window. How was the man killed?
Emmy
Hi, Emmy! You got the answer to my riddle right! :-)
