Thanks Thor (for using your bible)! lol :)
There are some young men who just don't shake hands with girls because of that verse… I think there might be another verse like it in the OT. I'm going to look and find out.
Edit: Couldn't find it… don't think it ever existed. :S

Edit2: This article gets at what I was saying in the third paragraph: http://www.gotquestions.org/Christian-dance.html#ixzz2lDg658ys

What do you think? I'm not saying this is what I think…

Maybe…. but if you meet someone like that wouldn't you respect their convictions… or would you shake hands with them anyway?

If I knew I wouldn't shake their hand of course but it's kinda hard to know when ur just meeting someone if u know what I mean…

I agree with Cuaroc's interpretation of the passage. It would be, in my opinion, an utterly ridiculous command if it meant not touch in any way at all. God's commands always have a purpose behind them. They are never for arbitrary purposes. There would be no point to a command not to touch in any way (because such things as shaking hands and brushing shoulders is in no way sinful or liable to produce temptation) and it would be well-nigh impossible (I would never be able to walk in the street without fear of accidentally touching a girl, and could I, when I become mature, never give my Mom or my sisters a hug?). I think common sense interpretation needs to be the approach. The original language implies marital relations and actions which are sin. Touching can mean very different things, and we need to make sure we understand the text as the original language, not the KJV, ESV, or Message written in English. Would you agree with that assessment? :) I hope that answered your question. :)

Imagine what it’s like when you offer to shake hands with someone, and the person completely ignores you… (or if they really don’t like you they give you the cold shoulder).

Agreed. Which is why I always try to find a female partner at square dances - usually there are more girls participating than boys. Not sure why, though. :P

Well, the one problem I see with that, is I really don't think boys should be dancing with boys, especially when girls are dancing with girls. Just sayin'...

That….. makes no sense to me. If the girls are dancing with the girls, how could the guys have a choice?

Unfortunately… it would be horrendously off-topic. Perhaps we should move this to a superhero or Marvel thread…. as I assume there probably is one. d=

It's the guys job to ask… sniggers

Because there are more girls on earth that boys, maybe? Just a random guess…

I think I was totally convinced that I will never participate in a square dance because of what happened the morning after when I was talking to one of my friends who had attended it. He was walking with me, and all of a sudden he stopped and said hi to a girl whom I had never seen before by name. This is how the following conversation I had with him went:

"Did you dance with her last night or something?"
"Yeah."
"Did you know her beforehand?"
"No."
"So you just randomly decide to say hi to her (and nothing else) the next day?"
"Yes…"
facepalm "I rest my case."

That's horrible!!! But true. It's almost more awkward to say no than it is to ask…. But then even more awkward to say yes!!!! : /

I danced with a lot of girls whose names I never even found out, and I said hi to them the next day… Okay, Okay, I know it's a little different, but still…

But c'mon, it's BB.

I did the same thing (meaning dancing with a guy who I didn't know and then saying hello to him the next day)…

@Dani and Stefani: See…I told you it would be fun!!!

Personally, I wouldn't dance with a guy period. Maybe with my brothers, but even that I'm not crazy about.
But, that's just me.

@Danielle: I would be just fine saying no to a guy asking me to. (Politely, of course!)

It's funny to see how different English Country Dancing is from Irish Ceili Dancing (you don't get much better than Irish Dance!)… ECD is way more formal in interaction; Irish Dancing is more complicated in steps and figures, but more relaxed in interaction. For instance, guys really don't ask girls to dance much with Irish Dance… usually everyone just finds who needs a partner. I was totally surprised the first time I did ECD because the guys would escort the girl unto the dance floor and back off again!
