Yeah…that's the basic idea. :) After participating in/calling contra dances for some time now, I can say that most people don't want to at first, and then after dancing for a little while they realize, "Oh, this can actually be fun!" :) Who knows, you might be the same way if you tried it. ^Unless your whole family doesn't like the idea or has objections to any kind of dancing, then the pressure would cause you to dislike the idea pretty much no matter what…^

Those are both good ones, of the two I'd say I like the Virginia Reel better. I don't know if I have a single favorite… if everyone in my set really knows what they're doing, than Postie's Jig and Ship's Cook are both really fun fast-moving dances, but I also like the slower more waltzy ones, like Kings and Queens. And of course it fun to do an untraditional crazy one every once in while, like Physical Snob, Birdie in the Cage (our version), or Applesauce/Pass the Lady. If if you have a good group I also like doing some of the really complicated ones, just to do them - but everyone really has to know what they're doing for that to work.
Yeah, I don't think I could pick a favorite…
Do you like circle or line dances better? I usually like lines better - especially improper sets.
