Yes we could. Both of which I dont participate in. But I see your point …not all "worldly things" are bad. The question to ask is "does it bring glory to God??" and also like others said -dont destroy your temple on purpose with permanent stuff

Well, going back to "don't destroy your temple", why stop at bodliy marking? What about going to McDonalds, or eating Cheetos? Why fill yourself with artificial food at all, if you're trying to keep your temple clean?

I think that we should be diligent in keeping our temple clean…eating right, exercising, etc…. I don't think that we should just stop at bodily marking. If we are going to serve the Lord we need to be in good health and condition :)

Ditto !! bible bee obviously you're not going to go to hell if you get a tatoo, I just have a conscientious objection to it.

Same here…I have a conscientious objection to it!

earings actually look nice…… not on guys of course, but a little pair of pearls on girls is actually pretty cute in my opinion. I personally dont have them because of their pagan roots, but in my opinion, tatoos just look nasty. and there is no way to permanenetly get rid of them………well I guess there is this, but ya. again the question is does it bring glory or take away glory from God…

For me, earrings are great on girls, but not on guys. Hoop earrings have the tendency to get pulled on by punks and babies alike, so I wouldn't recommend them unless they're clip-ons.

Which part? Earrings? Tattoos? "Artificial" food? ;)

Earrings: I have no problem with them. Unless they're obviously and intentionally being worn to attract attention, I view them just as any other thing that a girl wears. It's just feminine adornment. As long as it's not overboard, like I said, I don't see anything wrong with them.

Tattoos: I really don't have too much of a problem with these. I think a very valid argument can be made that they bring harm to your temple and you shouldn't get them for any reason. But I'm just not there yet. I think they can be a legitimate way to display art, as well as Bible verses. Thus, they can even be used in evangelism–just like a T-shirt. (Please don't tell Martin I said this to you. >_>)

Artificial food: I really don't know. Where do we draw the line? Is it okay to eat McDonald's only sometimes? Is it like dessert where it's not really good for you, but it's still okay to eat because it tastes good? I really couldn't tell you. Just try to eat as well as you can. Balance your diet. And don't kill yourself over trying to stay away from processed/artificial food. I really don't think it's as devilishly destructive as some people make it out to be. But it obviously shouldn't be the only thing you eat. ;)

How's that? =)

Thank you SO much! It was great to hear your thoughts! And may I know why you don't want Martin to know you said that to me?

Um…because he and I had a HUGE debate here on this subject…almost exactly a year ago. He still strongly holds to his view that tattoos are always wrong, I'm sure, so I don't know what he'd think to hear that I don't. =P

Nail polish is very temporary, but dying your hair is much more permanent. Also nail polish doesn't damage your nails like dyeing your hair damages it. Of course I should have said this from the start: I am not an expert on this at all! I probably won't give you the best answers. I was more hoping to learn from this than anything else, but I just wanted to point out something that most people here seemed to be missing.

Did you know that Nail Polish and Hair Dye are chemicals that kill you slowly? just saying…

My first impression on these subjects:

Drinking: I don’t!
Ear rings: They are okay for some girls (not boys)… not my thing.
Hair dye: Whatever. I don’t think I would do it myself…if I did I would pick a sane color.
Nail Polish: I like it… just about never wear it.
Tattoos: Yuck! In the Old Testament God commanded the Israelites not to mark their bodies.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your £body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19

“Abstain from every form of evil.”
1 Thessalonians 5:22

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:17

I don't think that drinking alcohol is wrong in and of itself - it is just the extent to which some people take it. Paul said "and be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess". The reason he gave was the excessive way a lot of people use it.

"And wine that makes glad the heart of man," Psalm 104:15 That verse dose not make it sound like a bad thing in and of itself. :)

Carissa, I'm very curious now. Do you believe it is always wrong for a person to drink alcohol, even if they do not become drunk?

If so…. was Jesus sinning when He partook of alcohol multiple times during his lifetime?

Timothy 5:23 [NAS]
No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

Okay, so first off…do you think it is okay to drink alcohol???
I don't think that alcohol is correct to drink. And in the Bible times the water was not good for drinking. So they had to drink wine. But our water is good plus we have lots of other drinks. So why drink alcohol. And once you get the taste in your mouth you're going to want more and more and more until you get addicted to it.

First off… yes, I believe that it is perfectly acceptable to drink alcohol. The Bible mentions in various places (some of which have been mentioned above) how it is not inherently sinful to drink alcohol. Now the question is, is it wise to drink it? You mentioned that people only drank wine in Bible times because the water was not good for drinking. I have not seen any proof for this statement, but you may very well be correct. If this is so, what reason do we have for drinking alcohol (a point you also brought up in your comment)?

For one, it is a good-tasting beverage for some people. I'm sure that some Christians enjoy a good glass of wine every now and then as much as I enjoy a good cup of milk. Only when it is drunk in excess does it become sinful. However, as you said, alcoholic beverages are addicting. Once you start drinking them, sometimes you can't stop. This is entirely true, but only so when it is drunk in excess or with a desire to drink just to get drunk. It's kind of like pop (or soda, whichever you like :P): if you drink too much, it can be bad for you and you can get addicted; but if you drink it only on occasion, it is no more than a good drink. I myself have actually drunk wine in the past few weeks at the Lord's Table, something I had never done before. I don't think that I was in the wrong at all for doing that; on the contrary, I think I was entirely in the right.

Though that explanation was perhaps not the most organized I could have given, hopefully it defends my viewpoint well. :)

But alcohol is not evil in and of itself - it's just the way people use it!

I, for myself, have never drunk wine, and have no desire to ever do so. But…I don't think that Christians who choose to drink wine now and then are sinning. It is the drunkards (aka winebibbers in the Bible) who don't know when to stop that are sinning. They lack self-control.

I repeat - alcohol is not evil in and of itself - excess is the problem. My family and I choose to stay away from it because it is easy to get addicted to, but that doesn't make it evil. Though it may be the wiser course to avoid alcohol, that doesn't mean it is sin to drink it.

Agreed :)

I don't think it's evil when it's drunk occasionally, just a little bit, but I personally stay away from it.

Many churches in Fairbanks don't use wine, partly for the reasoning that many people who were once alcoholics, if they even taste it, will go back to drinking.

Oh, sure! I would think that a church probably shouldn't use wine, just for that reason. Our church uses grape juice. :-)
