I think that "generally inappropriate" is a matter of your convictions. I've danced with my friends before, both girls and guys, and in public places, like a friend's house, or a party center celebrating (such as a graduation, or milestone birthday). I think, like you said, as long as you're not committing mental adultery, or touching what you shouldn't, it's okay. That doesn't mean it won't be awkward, depending on where you are, and who you're with, but then, that also depends on you.

Again this goes back to my opinion of the song. And it depends on what kind of dancing. Some music makes you want to get up and dance and the dancing is not good.

Okay…my opinion of the first one. It isn't something I would listen to. I don't like that style of music.
Okay…my opinion of the second one. I liked it!!

facepalm So at the square dance last year I was dancing with girls…you would say that is wrong because of people who are gay?
As for dancing with the other gender that to me is just a little bit (okay a lot) awkward.

Yeah…dancing is really awkward but depending on the dance and who you're doing it with it can be pretty fun :)

Dancing with people of the same gender is okay if it's a square-dance type thing, like Jewish dances where the men form a circle with their arms around each other (several men in one circle) and dance around or do whatever they do. But obviously, some forms of dancing with the same gender would be inappropriate.

Absolutely. Our homeschool group does dances. They're very fun. Not awkward at all. So there are girls dancing with boys. …? Okay? The dances are square dance/country dances, so it's not not just a pointless dance. A boy invites you to do the next dance with him, you say yes thank you, everybody lines up in two or three or four columns (or in two or three circles) and often end up switching partners every 30 seconds. When the dance is over, you find the boy who invited you, thank him, and stand around waiting for another boy to invite you. If one doesn't (which happens pretty often) you find another girl who doesn't have a partner and invite her to dance with you. The first time we went to one of those dances (two years ago) I convinced myself I was not going to dance because it would be awkward. I changed my mind five minutes into the evening.

When the dance is over, you find the boy who invited you, thank him,*how sweet!* and stand around waiting for another boy to invite you. "don't hold your breath!" If one doesn't (which happens pretty often) you find another girl *AAH! I would even dance with her to prevent that!* who doesn't have a partner and invite her to dance with you. The first time we went to one of those dances (two years ago) I convinced myself I was not going to dance because it would be awkward. I changed my mind five minutes into the evening. "compromises, compromises!"

The main reason for the dances are to teach dance etiquette. That's why you thank them. And that's why if you're a boy you have to consider asking a girl to dance. Or, if you're like my brother, dare another boy to dance with your sister. Yeah. It's happened. Multiple times. :-P

I changed my mind because it wasn't awkward.
