Memorize with a Church and a Group
Since many Memverse users have been torn over whether to belong to their church or a 'group' we have added the ability to join both. On the profile page you can now select both a church and a group to belong to.
If you have been using the Church/Organization field to affiliate yourself with a group, please move that over to the 'Group' option. Over time, we will remove inactive groups from the Church Leaderboard. And, as you can imagine, there is a brand new Group Leaderboard.

What is a group that I could belong to?
Andy - The new Group Leaderboard is great; thank you!
Grace - You might pick a group like "Bright Lights," "Awana," "Bible Bee," "Scripture Memory Fellowship," etc. If you aren't involved in a group for Scripture memory, you can leave that part of your profile blank.
YES!! I have been looking forward to the day when this happened! Thank you so much!
One thing I'd love to see are 'Bible Bee 2011', 'Bible Bee Ohio' groups. It would be preferable to break up into smaller groups of people that you met at your local Bible Bee or people with whom you'd like to stay in contact.
In other words, try to avoid joining huge groups where you don't really know anyone. The smaller the better as you're more likely to be encouraged.
Thank you very much for this Andy !
Grace, everyone should feel free to create their own groups if they want to. We'd love to see people getting together with three or four friends, creating a fun name, and then memorizing together. It definitely doesn't have to be a formal group.
Thank you, Andy, for all your work on this!
I had a quick question though - it says under the Group Learderboard (congratulations to the Southwest PA Bible Bee for being first :P) that you have to have at least 3 active users, except under their group there are only 2 members....how can that be?
Hey! How did Southwest PA Bible Bee get onto the leaderboard with only two members!? The leaderboard says they have three, but when I clicked on the link, there was only two - Alex and Ben Watt.
EDIT: That's funny Bethany - you and I commented the same thing at about the same time. :)
One more thing I noticed - not to embarrass you, God's Bondslave, but it seems to me that "Journey to the Heart" would be a group, and "Burkhalter Family Church" would be a church. Not the other way around. :)
@ Matthew, I know it sounds strange but the thing about it is I know everybody on the Burkhalter Family Church and not everyone in Journey to the Heart. And Andy said that the groups are supposed to be small so I guess that is why I did it.
Matthew and Bethany - The page only shows active users, but in reality there is a third user who belongs to the Southwest PA Bible Bee: Lauren Watt. She has been spending most of her time on Impress Kids lately, but hopes to get back on Memverse more when she becomes more proficient at typing.
Alex - I'm still slighly confused...the page says that you have to 3 active users, but if Lauren isn't active, how can you still be on? Anyways, good job! I wonder if we'll have some new groups join soon. Right now, my brother, sister and I are also all together in a group - "Missouri Bible Bee" =)
EDIT - It doesn't really matter to me, really; I was just curious :)
Once a group has three users it is eligible for the leader board. Only the verses of the active users count toward the score, though.
I started a "Romans Project" group. Anyone want to join me? *cough-cough* Wretched Man, SBG, O-C-T-S-R-I-S, ISC? *cough-cough* Of course some of you might be split between that and the Elijah Project....
The Narrow Road, a new group has been started. Only myself and my brother are members so far... anyone else care to join us?
Are you going to make a 'My Group' page? I really like this!
@ChiefOfSinners: Tough one. I think I'll stick with the Elijah project until I've memorized it, then go to the Romans Project, because the Elijah project has its own post and is more involved. (And it's on the top of the leaderboard.)
There sure is a surge of activity on the church leaderboard with so many people switching -- although there isn't that much on the group leaderboard because there aren't enough active people in most of the groups.
What is the Narrow road? I'm interested in it.
Are you going to add a "My Group" option next to the "My Church" option under the account tab?
This is AWESOME!!!!!!!! I had four things that I wanted to be my "church", and our family was always debating about whether to have Answers in Genesis or our real church on our profile. The separate group leaderboard is such a great idea. :)
I'm sorry that this is off topic, but I have a quick question: If I rated a verse "4" instead of "2", making the interval much greater that desired, is there any way to change that?
Alex I am part of the Southwest PA Bible Bee and yet I am not listed on it. What is going on?
Never mind. I think I just solved the problem, maybe.
Andy, can I be an author?
thank you memverse
Anna M - no, there is not a way to change that at the moment. Sorry!!!!
@J-P-I-A - Thank you! By "at the moment", do you mean that there could be a way someday?!!! (Chuckle)
Grace - we would love to have more people writing blog posts provided they are somewhat related to memorizing the bible. If anyone would like to write a post, just send it to admin(at)memverse(dot)com and we'll help you get it published.
This is great!! When I first saw the Bright Lights on the leaderboard, I wanted to join, but I also did not want to leave my own church. So now that there is a group leaderboard, I can join Bright Lights! Thank you so much!
I love this! Thank you so much! I am not sure where to find out what the Romans Project is memorizing and the Elijah Project. I haven't been following posts as well as I usually do! I would love to start a King James Only Group! Any interest?
I am a happy Memverser! Thank you!
Nikki Brown - I would be interested in a King James Group :D
Now I can have both Bible Bee and my church.Thats good
i would like a king James version group.
I think I would be interested in a King James Version group.
I created a group called: "Elijah Project and 1 Peter Project" (for those of you who are memorizing both ;)
I joined the King James Only group! Already at number 8! Yeah!
Cool, but I don't do anything that any of those groups do... My mom thought the Elijah Project might be to much for me to do.
I wanted to ask you something. On the "My Verses" page, when I check it to see if I memorize any or not, it usually does not show me all the verses I do. Is this normal?
Please pray for my (great) Aunt Charlotte. Her husband just died a week ago, and none of us are sure he was a Christian. So please pray that she would put her trust in and be comforted by her one and only God.
How do I send it?
@Grace Harrison and Hope Harrison,
The Narrow Road was a Christian music group I created with my Best Friend. It's for anyone who has accepted Jesus and is on the Narrow Road to heaven.
Mommy's Helper - Yes, that is normal. Memverse allows you to review other verses that are not due if they are in the same passage as the one you are reviewing and will need reviewed soon anyway. You can always skip such verses with the ">>" button (which appears for those verses that aren't due).
How do I join the Narrow road? Do I type it in to a group?
I just joined the King James Only group.
I'd join the KJV group, but I think I like Bible Bee too much. :) For smaller groups, maybe I'll make a Bible Bee Michigan or Bible Bee Mid-Michigan group.
EDIT: Bible Bee Mid-Michigan group is officially begun!
I really like this idea, it makes things a bit simpler for me. Thanks Andy!
I have a Question. I just reached level 13, and to reach 14, I have to refer a new user. I have referred 3 users already (under my account), but It won't count them. Why?
Rachel, the users have to be active to be counted. Originally there was a bug in the system that allowed inactive users to be counted, but I reported it a couple months ago and it was fixed.
In the future, please remember to post these questions on the support forum instead of on the blog, so there won't be so many comments. Thank you!
EDIT: I just looked at your referrals to make sure this was your problem, and I ran across something else. Rachel, it probably isn't a good idea to make another account just to get another referral. I understand; I've been tempted to do that too! :)
I think I am going to delete that account, Matthew. I had it for chapters but rarely use it. :( And thank you for your advice ;)
Andy - could you please delete it? Thanks.
It would be interesting if each group had its own encouragement page (or even blog post). The members could encourage the other members of their group. This would work best with small groups. But I realize that would be a lot of work (esp. if each group had its own page), so this probably wouldn't happen in the near future, esp. with all the wonderful improvements that are already being made.
Matthew - Thank you for answering questions here! :)
Rachel - Don't worry about the second account; we understand there are benefits of having a second one. If you want to, you could change the referrer on your second account to the same as your first account: Daniel Staddon.
Grace Harrison, all you have to do is write "The Narrow Road" in the box titled My Group.
Alex - thank you! I might :D
would anyone be interested in a "Southern Group" ? People that live in the south? :D
@Rachel- A "Southern Group"? That sounds interesting! Do you know anyone from the south?
Oh, and congratulations on getting to level 13! I'm stuck on level 5. I have to refer someone, but I don't know who.
On Dec. 25, I will be saying some passages from memory at our church! I'm hoping that it will encourage everyone there in memorizing the Bible, since most of them consider it "unimportant" to memorize Scripture. Please pray that I won't be nervous, and that Christians will be encouraged to treasure up God's Word. :)
So after all the adjusting is pretty much done we have Christian in #1 on the Church leaderboard and the Elijah Project #1 on the Group leaderboard. Great Job !
I was about to create a group called "John Project," because I'm working on memorizing the book of John and would love to encourage people/ be encouraged by others doing the same thing. However, I discovered that there already is one! So I joined it, but now I can't find any link to see who else is in it or what they're doing. How can I go to the "group page" or whatever it's called?
Thank you Rosie !!!! :D Oh, I live in the "South" (North Carolina) so I thought I'd be be fun to see how many would join :)
Did anyone see that Antarctica joined the leaderboard at #12?! That's neat!

AstroLeah, very cool that you are quoting in church on Christmas. Will you be quoting LUKE 1-2 or something else? Please let us know how it goes. We will be praying for you that it might encourage and inspire others to treasure God's Word for themselves.
Sarah, I would be happy to encourage you in memorizing JOHN. What pace are you considering? How would you want to encourage each other? InSoloChristo wrote that he is also memorizing JOHN. If you have a big group, or some ideas of how to encourage others, it is always possible to start a new blog page.
I am curious about the Antartica declarations. Could Rachelle, Hannah, or "Memverse Enthusiast" give us some explanation. Do you live there? Do you hope to move there? Or is your church having an outreach focus there? etc.
I love Memverse! It really helps me memorize and learn! Thank You memverse
"The mighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. Our God shall come and shall not keep silence a fire shall devour before him and it shall be very tempestuous round about him He shall call to the heavens from above and to the earth that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me those that have made covenant with me by sacrifice. And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: For God is judge himself. Selah.
Psalm 50: 1-6 KJV
"I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever."
I'd like to start learning at least one new verse a day. I'm sort of doing chapters 10-15 for a quizzing group at my church, but it's really part of my larger, personal goal. Anyway, I started in chapter 10. I'm still not really sure how the whole group thing works, but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one doing this!! And thanks to everyone on here, you've all been a big encouragement to me!!
By the way, for all those who have asked questions about the "Romans Project," allow me to explain that some of us began memorizing Romans on September 1, 2011 as part of a 16-month calendar schedule to correspond with the 16 chapters of Romans (for you Wolverines, that's a schedule of a chapter-a-month for 16 months--sorry, I couldn't resist!), all the way until the end of 2012. Since many of you were part of the Bible Bee Nationals, some of you had either put off memorizing Romans until now, or you decided to forego it. We made a calendar that shows what the memorization schedule would look like, complete with scheduled breaks too, and Mr. Walker put it as an attached file in a previous blog post, which I think is under the blog "Memorizing the Entire Bible?"
It's not too late to join, as we only just began chapter 4! If you do decide to join or are already doing it, PLEASE JOIN OUR "ROMANS PROJECT" GROUP! We welcome you with open arms, even if you are a Wolverine! :P
@Rachel- OK. That is neat that Antarctica joined the leaderboard!
Hi Mr. Walker, thank you for praying. :) I would have liked to quote the first two chapters of Luke, but I didn't have enough time to memorize them. I will recite Titus 2, seventeen verses from Psalm 119, and if I have time, whatever other passages that pop in my mind. My chivalrous brother (TigerJohnny) is actually thinking about reciting some verses with me!
I think that Rachelle and Hannah (my younger sisters) have Antarctica as their country because they would like to visit it, and "Memverse Enthusiast" is an account that our family uses to memorize verses in Spanish. Is it alright that they have it as their country, even though they don't live there? If not, I'm sure they'll be fine with it. :)
AstroLeah, I trust it will go well. TITUS 2:11-15 will always have a special place in my heart as it was the passage preached on the first chapel after I put a saving faith in Jesus Christ. I was blown away with how powerful those verses were and memorized them as soon as I got home.
Have a merry "Christmas Adam" on the 23rd everyone! :)
For some reason, my account isn't letting me reach level 17. It says that I only need to refer four users, and I've already done that. Does anyone know why this is?
@AstroLeah - Are they all active users on Memverse? That might be your problem...
They were all active, but I just found out that it was because I had three "one-point" users and two that counted as only half a point each.
@Andy or Alex - If somone reports an error in a verse that I have in my account (and in the same version also) will it show "Error Reported" on my "My Verses" page? Thanks.
BTW - I would post this under the feedback, but the computer I'm on won't let me...
I had forgotten to tell how my Scripture recitation at our church went. It went really well! Afterwards, one of our friends even sang some verses put to music. I've been asked to recite more Bible verses again. God is so good! :)
@Bethany Pentimone, I know I'm not Andy or Alex, :) but I do not think that it does show up on your "My Verses" if someone reports an error in a verses that you have added that's in the same version.
Does anyone know what IBLP stands for? It's one of the 'churches' on the leaderboard, but I'm not sure what it stands for.
@Seth Walley it stands for Institute of Basic Life Principles they were a vendor at BB
@Seth also if you want more information about IBLP you can go to iblp.org.
Oh, ok, Thanks Marie and God's Bondslave.
@Missouri Bible Beer's - I'm joining the "New Testament One Year Challenge" for a little while...but when the Bible Bee starts back up, I'll come back :)
Nice Job to Bible Bee in Northern Michigan for taking over #1 !
How do you make a new group? :)

@ Everett - you only need to get three active Memverse users to set a group as theirs on their profile for it to be on the group leaderboard.
@ Renelle - I agree, memorizing the Bible is fun! There are very few other things that I enjoy more (if any!) :) May God bless you and your Sunday school class.
@ Everett: Go to your profile, and go to the "Group" section. Type in what you want your group to be named, and tell people about it!
Hi, everybody! I just started a group called Scripture Stickies. Who wants to join? Just enter it as your group under your profile. :)
Thank you for the new "My Group" feature! I can now get to my group's page with only one click! (Actually, it only took me two before.) Convenience, convenience... :P I'm all over it.
Hey, I like the new "My Group" page, as well! Now, I can see everyone in my group (active and inactive). I need to start talking with all those people who are inactive :)
Thanks Andy I was wondering about that! :)
