PROJECT: Welcome to the 1 Timothy Project

Time Posted on December 01, 2009 User Andy

Welcome to those of you who have made it your goal to memorize 1 Timothy. I'm hoping that this entry can be used to encourage you all to make it to the end of the book. Those of you who have been successful in memorizing entire books in the past, definitely feel free to share your experiences. If you would like to share insights and testimonies as you go along, feel free to do so in the comments section below. If you've already registered with Memverse, you're cleared to comment on the blog so no need to re-register. Also, make sure that you select '1 Timothy Project' as your group affiliation. That way you'll be able to track the progress of everyone who has embarked on the journey with you.

One final word of caution: don't be tempted to add the entire book all at once. It will be best if you start with the first 5 verses and then gradually add verses as you go along. The software will take care of the rest.

Andy, thanks so much for this website. What an invaluable tool both to organize/enhance my own Scripture memory and to equip, inspire, and encourage those of us in the 1 TIMOTHY group. So how is everyone doing? Today, Dec 2nd, by God's grace I'm caught up to 1:13 and loving it. I would love to hear from you.

I didn't know there was a 1 Timothy Project, but I had noticed that there were several verses in 1 Timothy. Why was 1 Timothy chosen?

Leah - Phil Walker organizes a group of people around the world who all work towards memorizing an entire book. I'm not sure how it's picked but I'm sure Phil can chime in. Some of them are using Memverse to work their way through 1 Timothy and they memorize a couple of verses each week.

Leah, a year ago a group of 100 of us attempted memorizing HEBREWS together. I'm aware of 7 who finished. This year I wanted something in the 100 verse range. We were going to do JAMES this year. Then I got introduced to quiz pro, an awesome computer game (to make memorizing easier and more fun) that can be bought. The only two books in the 100 verse range available this year on quiz pro in both the NIV and KJV were 1 and 2 TIMOTHY. I decided to start with 1 TIMOTHY and save 2 TIMOTHY for another year. We have about 400 memorizing with us. If you want to join us, you can find us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=178535325932&ref=ts and off facebook at www.scripture-memory-support.org or let me know you want weekly encouragement and updates by emailing philjohn1558@yahoo.com We memorize at the pace of 1 verse per day M-F and are scheduled to complete 1:15 this Friday, Dec 4th. Lord willing, we will do a short book or a 100 verse section from a book each year starting in November.

Phil, thanks for the explanation, and thanks for the invitation to join the group. Maybe next year I might be in a better position to take on this awesome challenge, but right now I have too many of my own verses that I want to memorize.

I like the idea of splitting up churches and groups. I would like to be in 1John and Bible Bee and my local church but I can only chose 1 right now.

I did not realize that there was a first Timothy project also I would be glad to join but I do not know if I can post verses as I usually forget about posting on the 1 john already.

Nathan, I think the 1 Timothy project was from 2009, though there is certainly nothing to prevent you from memorizing the book now!
