But what if you want it in a different translation than your translation "of choice"? Do you have to go to your Profile page and change it?

Confession: I had to add some new verses immediately just so I could try out the improvements. They are great!! Of all of the changes and updates that y'all have made since I started, this one is my favorite!

@Jael - you can click on the translation to change it.

I have on question though, maybe I missed something, but, when you add a passage, say, John 1:1-4, will it group it into a passage or will it be the same as it is now? Thank you!

@Emily - it will be same as it is now. The verses will be linked and will appear in order but they will still be separate memory verses.

I have one more question (I don't have a 'Get Satisfaction' account, or I'd ask it there), if I have a passage memorized on Memverse, then add some verses before or after it, is there any way to have all of the verses on the same interval and review them on the same date, besides deleting them and then adding them all again?

I have to wholeheartedly agree with Dakota--this is certainly the greatest single improvements that I, at least, have ever seen implemented on Memverse! I love the completely new format, how it allows you to see the content of the verse you are choosing (so you can't choose the wrong verse and then have to delete it), and how it now allows you to choose key words from a passage in order to find it! Great work!! I hope that Memverse just keeps getting better!

Kaitlyn - Since you can see and easily add all the verses that result from your query (whether a single verse, multi-verse passage, chapter, or a search), we didn't think it was needed anymore. You can scroll through all the results with the "Back" and "More verses" options -- maybe this is what you were looking for....

I just added a few of the epistles to my verses, but someone did something really weird and added a Philippians '4: 75' and '4:78'. Could someone please fix this?

@Alex - If you have already added verses, and you search them, it still lets you add the verse... There is no checkmark unto after you click "add verse." It doesn't do anything to your verses, but maybe you could fix it so a check mark comes up.

@Alex - You might want to update the tutorial - most of the pictures are dated ... especially the old add verse picture. You might also need a new video tutorial.

I'm having a problem with my avatar. I used the same email in Gravatar and uploaded a picture but it still hasn't changed my picture on Memverse. Does anybody know what is wrong?

Matthew: Could you double-check to make sure that Gravatar has your picture uploaded to the email address? I'm not sure what the problem is so it might be that you forgot to do a step... :-/

@Emily and BethanyM - I know...I can't wait either. I sooooo wanna go to Nationals since I wasn't able to last time. :( Maybe all of us on Memverse could make it or go and we could have a MemVerse party or something. We should organize one for Nationals...but ONLY if I make it. Just kidding. :)

Love the new look and ease of adding verses! Thanks so much! But I noticed a problem when adding John 9:25 in KJV. There is a spelling error and I tried to go to feedback to post it, but I couldn't log on because it said my password or email was wrong. (Is it asking for my password with my email account or with Memverse? I tried both.) So I tried to start a new account but I couldn't figure out what some of the letters were in the box to prevent spam.

Leah - We just fixed it. The "Feedback" is powered by GetSatisfaction, so you need a GetSatisfaction account (free registration) to use it. We do have a way to report errors for future reference: http://www.memverse.com/blog/main/Reporting_Errors_in_Verses.

Also, Leah, you should never have to make a new memverse account unless you want to make a new one (for various reasons).

I was wondering if there is any plan to let you enter in verses you already have memorized and have them register as memorized.

when I first found this site I was pretty enthused and excited, but when I found out I had to type in every verse I have memorized down, and then have to work them for weeks till they are officially recognized as memorized, I shied away. Having carpal tunnel syndrome makes it painful to spend to much time at the keyboard. To have to type in the whole book of John would be impossible for me at this present time. and the program only lets me submit 3 chapters at a time.

I am not complaining. But I think it would be more encouraging to work on your verses here, if you could see what you have memorized and then continue on from there, if you know what I mean.

It would have to be on an honor system for sure.

I would really like to participate as this site here, seems to be one of the few places were People that love the Word Hang out.

Alex and Josiah, thanks for your help! Now, can you tell me why "Edit comment" appears every time I post something?

@John Project: One thing you could do to keep from typing a lot is when you see the verse to say it out loud and then check with the feedback to see how close you are. Then you can rate the verse without actually typing anything in.

Leah: The "edit comment" button allows you to edit any of your comments if you ever need to.

I like the new way of entering verses, much better.
One thing that I think might be an improvement would be to be able to lable a set of contiguous verses or a chapter as a passage, and then be able to review them in somthing like the capter review or a passage review where you rate all the verses you do individually but then as a whole the passege would take on the mean number of the review so that they all come back for review at the same time.

We are currently working on a way for long passages/chapters that are memorized to come back for review at the same time; I don't know when that feature will be able to come out, though.

@BibleBeeJunior12 Thank you--I am enjoying the site very much! Thought I'd start with review of some "old" verses I've memorized (and I've apparently slacked off on a few words...). This is a great tool! :)

I love the new keyword-entering thing! This will make it a lot easier to enter verses!! I wished that I could do that, when I first started Memverse last year, and now I can!

@Andy or Alex -- Is it possible for me, to add verses in a certain translation (in this case, ESV) and not have them go to the "My Verses" page as pending or learning?

Bethany - Any verses added through the "Add Verse" page are added to your account; so, no....

Alex -- Okay, thanks for answering my question. I just thought that maybe there was a possiblity of helping add verses in ESV, just to get more of that version of the Bible into the database.

Chapter review is not showing all of my newly typed verses/chapters.

I checked that they were on "learning" mode.

This has been asked about 6 months ago but I did not see any answers.

I did copy and paste 2 new chapters of John as they were not yet entered into the data base.

Maybe that is the problem?

Does it take time for newly typed verses to register in the data base?

John project - So you have some chapters all added to your account that are not appearing in Chapter Review? Are the verses in the chapter all from the same version?

Also, we are going to be working on a feature that lets you just type the first letter of each word; we hope that will help with the other issue you had mentioned....

Sorry guys, I figured it out.

I missed a verse while I was inputting into the data base. Which is why it did not register as a complete chapter.

I will be, Lord willing, filling in the missing chapters in the Gospel of John data base.... (KJV)

@John project - I've done that too. I ask a question and as soon as I turn around I figure it out. Then I'm like...oops.

I agree with AstroLeah; I like the new changes, but I hope the "add next verse" option can be put back in soon.

@ Alex or Andy: I have an idea... so what if we try to guess when Memverse will reach 150,000 memorized verses like we did with reaching 100,000 verses. After all 150,000 will be halfway to 200,000!!! What do ya think?

I was wondering if there was a way to exclude parts of a verse you might not want to memorize. For example, Isaiah 30:15 = "This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says 'In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.'

Instead of having to memorize "This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel says" and "but you would have none of it," is there a way you can personalize a verse to exclude those parts if you wanted to?

@J. Sig: While I hold absolutely no clout or authority on MemVerse, I figure I'd at least weigh in with a trusty opinion:

While many verses in Scripture have been popularly broken down over the years to get to Its "meat & potatoes" message, such as Joshua 24:15-- "Choose you this day whom you will serve ... as for me and my house we will serve the LORD" (with a lot of not necessarily contributory content in-between) or Psalm 46:10-- "Be still and know that I am God..." (where the rest after that is not seemingly pertinent to that opening statement); however, as a general "rule of thumb," it's not always the best idea to break apart God's Word, even if it makes better sense, has better flow, cleans up the prevailing message, etc., because there's no one in authority among us (as humans) who is designated to decide when, on what, and where to draw the line in what gets kept and what gets cut.

I admittedly chuckled when I first read your blogpost, because the content of your question, though I'm sure in your case is presented innocently and without malice, really captures the problem with a majority of the "popular" evangelical preachers out there today. They "personalize" verses most of the time to make it say what they want it to say, and they tend to not have much accountability at all in doing such "personalizing" of God's Holy Word. They have no fear of being overruled by others around them, particularly due to their popularity. In fact, it could be argued that they are popular because they have a "cut-and-paste" way of handling God's Word. Further, many would argue that Nadab and Abihu "personalized" God's Word (His directions) in how to handle the tabernacle incense, and we know what happened to them. In regards to systematic theology, it's already a danger for any student of Scripture to take even a single verse and try to defend or support a given doctrine without consulting the rest of Scripture to ensure the rest agrees, let alone portions of a verse.

Anyway, my advice (take it or leave it) would be, as I have had the same fleeting thoughts as your question encapsulates when I run across a verse or passage of which I have always just known or appreciated a portion of it, to just learn/memorize the verse or passage as a whole, but still cherish the parts that really resonate with you. For example, Philippians 4:6-- "Be anxious for nothing"; Numbers 32:23-- "... be sure your sin will find you out"; Ephesians 6:1-- "Children, obey your parents..."; etc. By doing this, you keep God's Word intact, while appreciating the overall message that can still be captured in a condensed version.

Besides, how would anyone even begin to construct a system on MemVerse by which you could keep track of and rate what you've memorized if you're only learning portions here and there? Logistically, it seems nearly impossible to construct AND keep track of; while, empathically, I definitely see your point and can relate.

Hope this helps to add some kind of dimension to your thinking and inquiry.??

J. Sig - As Wretched Man said, it would be nearly impossible logistically and it's probably a good idea to learn the whole verse (and even the surrounding verses) for more context and to ensure that the meaning of the verse and it's original intent is preserved in our hearts....

@Wretched Man, thanks for the really wise, godly advice. I do understand the context issue, that cults will try to take one piece of the entire Bible and make their religion on it. Like, my youth pastor says, take the phrase "There is no God." The real thing as a whole says, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' "

I guess the word "personalize" wasn't a very good conveyer of what I meant to say. For my own personal memorization I truly meant that, respecting the context, I could memorize just a certain part of the verse because the other parts to me are just not very helpful to me in getting something out of the verse by memorizing it (like, "This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel says"), UNLESS I was using it as a doctrine or any form of systematic theology. If I were, I should, of course, memorize the whole thing, lest it twist the doctrine at all.

In addition, one of the bases I lean on in that kind of memorizing is how the Bible authors like Peter, James, John, etc. would cut out part of a verse, that is, the main point of the verse. For example, 1 Peter 1:16 says, "For it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.' " The verse it refers to is Leviticus 11:44, "I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground." And I will definitely admit that they were filled with the Holy Spirit in an inspired way to write their books, but at the same time, they were still humans like us; and if God wouldn't have wanted us to memorize only a part of a verse, I believe he would have had the authors be better examples by displaying the whole thing.

As for the Memverse part of it, honestly, the only reason I ever thought of the idea was when I watched the tutorial video (with the old way of adding verses); and it looked at first like if I would select a verse, I could add the text in the box if I wanted to, including if I wanted just the main part of a verse. But I see now that that wasn't the intended idea to be used originally.
