@All, I've been memorizing twelve verses a day for the NBB. How many verses are there total? Would this get me done by the time Nationals comes around? Do I need to increase the pace?

@ God's Bondslave: I made a schedule for Seniors that would get you done memorizing by the week of October 28th, leaving 2 weeks of review. Are you interested in having a schedule like that? If so, I can try to e-mail it to you–and also to anyone else who's interested.

Wow Jimmy! That's great!!! I'm only a little passed the 1/4 point and I have 200 less verses than you. :) How many are you memorizing a day?

Congratulations! Well, I think that I am only able to memorize around every other day according to my schedule, but when I do have a "memorizing day", I can usually do around 30-45.

That is a LOT of verses! :O I've never done that many in a day! I think the most I've ever managed to learn in a day is 20. I'm about halfway through the verses as well, but only because I already knew more than 200 of them. :D The other half will take me a lot longer!

Since registration has closed, I have added up the numbers on the BB website, and it appears that there will be 83 Primaries, 90 Juniors, and 88 Seniors competing at nationals. What do you all think about that?

As a second fun question, what is the largest number of verses you have memorized in one day?

That's interesting… I'm going to go look and see who declined. Hope it's not somebody I know… (oh, wait, I hardly know anyone going to Nationals this year anyhow. Well, at least not very well… "knowing" them over cyberspace doesn't really count. Does it? :) )

EDIT: I see that Masado Ishii declined. Do you think we can still count him in the Memverse qualifiers?

@jimmy Waters: How long does it take you to learn that many? How many did you already know? I've never really tried to see how many I could do in one day, so the most I've done is 20 or something. Wow, quite a few people dropped out. That's too bad they aren't doing alternates anymore.

@God's Bondslave: When do you plan on finishing? That's great you're already 30% of the way through you verses! How is your study of 1 Timothy coming?

I'd like to use COS plan and finish about one month before, I figured it out yesterday and in order to do this I need to up the pace to 15/day. I am working on memorizing 1 Timothy. I have the first chapter and first ten of the second chapter. For Greek words, I'm taking one per verse I don't have them all memorized but am familiar with most of them. I'm still not sure how to do cross-references maybe Quizlet?

I usually memorize around 1-1.5 hours a day, and the rest of my Bible Bee time is spent on review. :)

In answer to my own questions, I am sad that there are so few people attending nationals. I am not disappointed in the families decisions not to go, but in the fact that there is no alternate policy. For instance, if the policy was in place, then 39 kids below the cutoff could have qualified.

In answer to my second question, last year I had a lot of time on my hands one day, so I decided to spend all that time memorizing for the Bible Bee. I ended up doing 83 verses that day (I was familiar with around a quarter of them, though, so I don't know if that really counts.).

(but what you said it a pros, but in a way is a cons too)

Yeah, it's sad that those families aren't able to attend the Bee, but I think maybe a lot of families aren't able to afford the expenses. Some Bible Bee hosts had fundraisers last summer to help out the families that qualified but some people didn't do the fundraisers. Our state didn't have any BB hosts(we went to another state to compete) so there was no fundraising going on.:(

God's Bondslave: We have a book where you can look up Greek words and it will list the places the word is found in the Bible. A lot of our memory verses are cross references.
That's a lot of Greek words! :) Are you going into detail on all of them? I'm only going into detail on a few, but I'll probably memorize a lot more of the words.

Jimmy Waters: How on earth do you memorize that many verses in an hour??? =D
That's so sad that 39 more kids would have been able to go if they still had alternates…and the difference between Jr 100 and 101 was 1 point! (same with Sr and Pr was 2 points)
83!? I wish I could memorize 83 verses in a day. :) And even if you were familiar with some of them, it still counts. :) Which year was that?
The Andersons said to say "hi" =)

I doubt there are many, if any, people here who listen to the Christian reformed rapper Lecrae, but I noticed something cool in one of his songs this morning. In his song "Don't Waste Your Life" based on the book by John Piper, he says:

"If Christ is real, then what am I gon' do about/
Everything in Luke twelve fifteen down to twenty-one/
You really oughta go and check it out!"

I found that interesting because today I've been working on memorizing that exact passage, Luke 12:15-21, since it was assigned to us for Nationals. I just thought that was cool that he references that exact passage in one of his songs. :)

Yes, I did! Did you get my reply? Thanks a lot! COS. Greatly appreciate it! Hope your NBB work is going well. :) By the way to all there is a scripturetyper competition going on by BB. If you have time you should really check it out! Scripturetyper.com is a great place to review your verses, though not quite as good as Memverse. Hope some of you can make it. For all of you national contestants you should have received information about it in the last national bible bee e-mail. Looking forward to seeing some of you. Hope your studies are going great! To God be the ultimate glory!

@BibleBeeJunior12: I would not call myself superbly dangerous competition. :) My strength is in memorization, but I am not quite as adept at written tests. I am hoping to do better on the test this year at nationals.

My weakness is also in the written test. I have not had trouble with my verses any any year except 2009, although this Nationals is hard enough. I have always failed the written though.

@ God's Bondslave: No, I did not receive your reply. : I even checked in my junk mail, but it was not there… I don't know why that happened. But I'm glad you can benefit from my work. :) Thank you for your kind words.

My % score has always been lower on my written test than on my orals. This year I scored 99% on my orals and 82.5% on my written.

My mom just told me the deadline for the Bible Bee pictures in order to get them in the program is tomorrow, so everyone needs to get their pictures on the site if they haven't already!

Has anyone heard about or maybe signed up for the Bible Bee Soda Shoppe? It's almost like a talent show, where you can recite a poem, speak, sing, or play an instrument. Dad told me about it Saturday morning, and asked if I would like to participate. I'm hopefully going to be playing a few songs on the piano; I'm really excited!
I think you only have to email them to sign up. I'd love to know if anyone has heard about it, or is already signed up!

Hey GMOV! :) We signed up for the Soda Shoppe and will be singing and playing the piano. :) Our time will be on the schedule - I'd love to meet you in person!!!!!!!!!! :) Also, we'll be manning the Waterproof Bible Booth for my mom's cousin so I"ll be there sometimes - maybe I'll get to meet some of you! ;)

I just found out via the "Recently on Memverse" page that Caleb Martin (Senior qualifier) is on Memverse. That makes 45 total qualifiers so far!

@BBJ12: Oh, you've done it now. :)

Wow! How exciting; I'd love to meet you in person as well! But, I just found out on I think, Sunday morning, that we can't do it because the Soda Shoppe takes place during the Semi-Finals and Finals. I was a little disappointed when I found that out, but now, I feel even worse knowing that your family will be doing it! Oh well. :(

Actually, GMOV - they are at all different times. We are hoping to be able to do it on Friday at 4:30 - 5:00. There will be a schedule of the BB Soda Shoppe in our stuff when we register - my family and I will be manning the Waterproof Bible booth so you could stop by then! Although, I might not be there sometimes because I might be hanging out with my grandparents or my BFF that I haven't seen in 2 years and her family. But I really hope to meet you!!!!!!! :) Wow - a week from today and we'll be on our way to Nationals.

Ok, everyone - Please please pray for our family!!!!!!!! Me and my sister have a cold (we had one during Locals and I lost my voice at the end of the day), my baby brother has a cold and a cough, and my other brother has pneumonia. Please pray that we all get well in time for Nationals!!!!! Thankx.

Really? Maybe we can do it after all! I'll have to ask Dad if we can still participate; because I think all the spots might be taken up. Thank you so much for the information! :) I know; I can't wait to go!

Oh, no. I will definitely be praying for you and your family. I know what it's like to get a cold with a special event coming up.
