2013 Locals!!!

If you finished your test you did better than me. I had about 15 questions at the end that I had to fill in with "B", which doesn't happen to me very often.
The questions were so vague and worded so differently that I just couldn't answer them quickly enough! I had to rush through the last half!

Yeah well I was rushing and freaking out the whole time! It was not very comfortable :)

I finished my written with five minutes to spare!!!

My timing was about the same!

Hey, hey, I'm here now, just 7 hours late!!! :P You must remember that you all are 2 hours ahead of us, and that we went to ice cream after it was over and were there for a super super long time :D But tomorrow I think I'm going to get on Memverse for like all day :P It seems like I haven't been on here in FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was very hard!! Well, to rephrase that, it was difficult in that you had to really think about most of the questions. There were only like 15-20 at the most that I could answer right off the bat. The others took a little while to think about. I'm going to be surprised if I get an 800 score, even with a perfect Orals.

That was the one! I did not like that question because I didn't know if the people who wrote it were Calvinistic or not!! I am SO glad they took that question off.

Lol, same here!! :P I always marked the same answer every time, but was like…uh, it kinda depends on what the person who wrote the test believed…. :P

I sleep fine it didn't seem to help much on the written though....

The hard part about the test was that they didn't ask about the things I studied :|

I had ~2 minutes left. :\ The neat thing about it though, is that I was behind for much of the test (I know because I had a stopwatch with me) and I SO did not want to have to fill in bubbles randomly at the end. So I offered up a short prayer that God would help me speed up and finish, and He did! PTL!

For all who thought the test was hard or easy: I would advise you not to think in any way that your perception will necessarily mean a good or bad score. From experience, your score is usually the opposite of what you predict the test was. I did the test four years and eight times. Twice I though it was easy, and six times I thought it was extremely difficult. I can remember that each time I thought it was hard, I got a really high score, but whenever I said to myself and others "That test was SO easy," I found out, to my humiliation, that I did quite poorly. That might sound strange to some, but I would encourage you to not make the mistake of beating yourself up or puffing yourself up. Some kids every single year think the test is hard, while others think it is easy (Look at previous Memverse threads. There are some on each side of the coin every single year). If you think you did poorly, trust in God and know that He allowed you to get the score you received. Perhaps your performance was a test of faith to see that, even though you think you did not do so well, you had the faith to not be angry at Him or to throw up your study as worthless (that reveals selfish intentions). If you believe you did so well and think, "How could ANYONE have thought that was hard?," I think you need to be very careful not to get proud of your God-given abilities. :) I guess my point is that no matter what you may think about your performance, God is the one who decides who will get what score. If you trust in Him and remain humble, he will bless you. I just wanted to give you all encouragement and advice. You all studied so hard. Make sure that God gets the glory no matter what your score or perception may be. :)

Hey guys, have you noticed that your local Bible Bees are getting smaller every year?

Ours has gotten bigger every year, except for in 2012 when we had one less than we did in 2011.

Let's see, off the top of my head, there's Caleb, Nathan and Hannah, Emily & Everett, Sam, Rosie & Nicolas, ... that's all I can think of right now but there's probably more.

Are any of y'all back yet??? Seriously, I want to know how y'all did!!

Wow….that was a lot of post in a row, sorry guys! :P
Anyway, here's what happened for me :P

Last night I was pretty tired, so I didn't really do any last minute studying. And I didn't have to get up till 7:00. I wasn't really feeling nervous and I felt sort of confident (first time ever for me:P). We did the written test first, and I sort of thought it might be okay. But I quickly changed my mind. I didn't know the answer to a question for sure until #5. I was the calmest I've ever been for the written test and I just could NOT go fast, so I was sure I wouldn't finish it either. But PTL, I finished somewhere between 15 and 5 minutes left. I got to go back over a couple of the questions… but there were so few I knew for sure. :-/ That was the hardest test EVER!!!!!!!!!! I was totally not expecting that. Oh yeah, and my pencil kept crumbling and smudging all over the test. :( :( Orals was way better. This was the first year I felt really good about orals. We practiced a LOT with some of the other BB kids, so I got lots of practice quoting in front of others. The only bad thing was that I was really thirsty :P And I forgot to give the judges my sticker thingies. After that we had lunch and then we did a final challenge round sort of thing. All of the kids in our whole bee got on stage, and if they didn't want to compete, they just recited a verse and sat down. I got first place in Seniors both in my total score and in the final challenge thing, but there were only two of us :) Afterward we went to get ice cream with most of the kids :) But I really wanted to get on here and talk to you all and see how everyone did!!!!!!
So that's how my day went. I'll probably think of other things later on :P

EDIT: Oh, I finished orals with like 2 minutes and 8 seconds to spare, I think that's what they said.

Jimmy - First amendment doesn't matter. You'll be in trouble for breaking a promise if you talk about things you're not supposed to talk about. The first amendment doesn't allow anyone to yell "fire!" in a crowded theater, or to lie, or break a contract, etc.

Google makes it easy to find anyone who was talking about anything. And this forum is public.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm just trying to make sure no one else says anything that could be judged improper. If one person did it once without knowing, for only one question, and then realized they shouldn't and erased it, I doubt it's much of a concern at all. We can talk about other things now :)

@Matthew: Just cause I thought the test was easy doesn't mean anything! I could say it was easy and not get a good score while y'all who said it was hard could get a really good score!! And please do NOT say that I will beat you!!

Yeah!! I normally finish my tests, but on this one, I had to fill in about 30 sniffles with B :(

Yeah….instead of being like "according to 1 john 3:12…" it was more like "According to 1 John 3…" and even "According to 1 John….". If I remember correctly, I think there were some that said something like "Where in the Bible…" It was all confusing! :-/

(I see. Schenck (or schenk? :) ) v. U.S. does say that. I did some research on intellectual property, and I believe that you are right in that regard. Sorry about the mistake, Alex! :) )

Well, last year I think they did the same thing with the questions. A lot of people as I recall were thrown for a loop when the questions asked about chapters and the Bible rather than verses. This seems to be like last year's test, only slightly more vague. :)

I may be generalizing to much, but boy, if it was possible, it seems like no one will make it to nationals!
Good thing there is no minimum score you have to get to qualify or something like that.

I didn't do nearly as well as I hoped. I had the swordstudy and most of the cross references pretty much memorized, and then –if the written did ask questions about stuff that I knew– it was so vague and reworded that I couldn't recognize it! My oral round was perfect, but I don't know my written score, which is probably pretty bad. I had 15 at the end that I just answered with "B" because I ran out of time!
I kept thinking "chapter and verse, people, give me chapter and verse!"
Not to mention that somehow I got my "bubbles" got off three times so I had to go back and rethink everything until I found where I got off, which probably contributed to me running out of time.
