You mean, those who have never competed at Nats before? Not sure of the exact number, but I just glanced through them and it looks like about 25-30% of them are new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yes, people who are first time qualifiers. Neat!

Here is an article every Bible Bee contestant should read. :)

Hey guys! Our youngest sister qualified for nationals and this is our first time. She's been studying the verses and reading John chapters 1-12 since locals, but we wanted to know if there was anything else we should do or know about or be prepared for. We'd like to know what's going to be happening at nationals and what else she should do to be prepared. Thanks! :)

Hello! Oh, congratulations, that's so exciting!!!
That's great that she has been studying the verses and reading John 1-12! The study guide we had for locals is your format for studying for nationals. They gave a lot of little hints and such about how to find key words and cross references and everything. It's also really helpful to pay attention to how the memory verses relate to John 1-12 (Like we have Genesis 1:1-2 which relates to John 1:1, and Isaiah 40:3-5 which John the Baptist quoted in John 1:23. Daniel 12:2-3 talks about the resurrection just like John 5 does, and so on.)
If you guys participated in Bible Bee locals when they still had orals, you'll have a pretty good idea about how the orals will work. If not, it would be a really good idea to read through the rules for orals and know what kind of things count as mistakes, and how you can do a start-over, and things like that.
I hope that helps! Happy studying and God bless!

Besides knowing John 1-12, she should look up some of the major Greek words from those chapters. Also, if she finds any good cross-references (besides the memory verses), she should take note of them. Aside from that, she should continue reading John 1-12: that's a great way to study.

I would also recommend looking through the unofficial BB study doc- https://docs.google.com/document/d/13zyqf52CtiRDVYjiBQxbW3r7QXEfb5cAoFaMUOrpAAc/edit?usp=sharing There's a lot of helpful info on there- crs, background, greek words, context, etc. I would definitely recommend having her recite the verses out loud to a family member- reciting out loud is very important to having them memorized!
I agree with Emily and Joshua, too

Yeah we saw that… Does anyone know why? I'm just curious… ;)
ZachB
Yea I saw! I'm guessing they're giving us one short passage, one medium passage, and one long passage.

Yup 0.o
Matthew Minica
Remember what most of us were doing a year ago? ^ _ ^
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yesssss. XD misses everyone
Isabelle Ingalls
Is the scoring still the same since were doing only three passages this year? If they are still only worth 15 each, that makes them worth way less compared to the written test

I just sent an email to contest (at) biblebee (dot) org, respectfully asking them to consider increasing the number of passages (though not necessarily the time limit) and giving feedback on why this should be done. If anyone feels the same way about the Oral Round this year as I do, I would strongly encourage you to do the same ASAP.
