-_- I didn't say those things always happen. I say they're risks, which aren't worth it from any perspective.

So is crossing the street. :P

So is _crossing the street_. :P

No; crossing the street is worth the risk. You need to get to your destination so you can continue your life. And if you're careful, the risk is low–whereas to do romance teasing IS to not be careful.
So you just committed the logical fallacy of "weak analogy".

Teasing allows the teased to grow, as the learn the extents of their own emotions and the reasons they think the way they do. As such, they learn, and continue with their lives. Doesn't that make teasing more or less as beneficial as crossing the street (in most circumstances)? ;)

Oh wait… sorry; I clicked "reply" to the wrong person. Sam ripped my point out of context with his question. It's obvious that Sam teasing you about another guy is not flirting. That's not what I was talking about in that point.

The risk of flirting can come in two ways: the people who are being teased about each other might start flirting because of it (whether they actually have feelings or not), and of course teasing someone about yourself IS flirting (again, whether you actually have feelings or not).

These are all general statements.

So...God can't use other people and their teasing to grow you? Hmm?

Of course He can. But He can also (and has) used dating to bring two people together to be married. Just because God can use it for good doesn't make it wise.

Dating is unwise because the risks aren't worth it; it's the same here.

And crossing the street can be unwise when you have other options as well. Hee hee! As fun as this debate is, we seem to be getting nowhere; besides the fact that I'll still tease just about everyone at some time or another. XD

It CAN be, of course–like if it's so busy or icy that it would be careless to cross it no matter what–but as a general rule, assuming you know how to be careful on the street, it's not unwise. Other ways might take longer and hold up your day unnecessarily. See how this was a bad analogy? ;-)

How is romance teasing profitable in any way except indirectly? "Learning the extent of your emotions and why you think the way you do" is an effect that can come from any one of several causes. The mere fact that romance teasing may produce this effect does not at all make it right or wise. I, for one, cannot see anything good coming out of such teasing–and I can see several bad things that at least might come out of it. Looking at it that way, I believe that I am right in making a broad assertion: there is no truly good reason for one person to tease another about romance. When it comes down to it, romance is a basically serious subject, and ought not to be treated lightly. I completely agree that we should usually try to laugh at ourselves; but I can't see this being an area in which doing so would be appropriate.

I can't see anything I say affecting the amount or manner of teasing here on Memverse… but I thought I'd just make yet another silent protest. Please, those involved: reconsider. ^Yes, Sam, especially you. And please don't rip me apart too much.^

I just thought of something! Next time I see one of you girls who approves of romance teasing, I'll slink up to you, put my arms around your waist, and give you a smooch on the mouth. But it will just be in a joking way; it won't be anything serious, so you'll just be able to laugh it off… right? Hey, maybe you'll even get some new perspectives!

Oh, come on! You're taking yourself too seriously!

Conflicts? My apologies if you thought I was talking about conflicts. :P I'm talking about deeper things that may (or, admittedly, may not) occur. I'm not trying to blow something out of proportion, but I see truth in the argument that teasing can drive a wedge (however small a wedge) of awkwardness between the two involved people. There's a possibility that it won't happen… but we can't always tell! I think it's best to stay away from it–especially because there's no good reason to do it! :P

Teasing is not the same–even when you extend it logically–as such an outright display. The same arguments cannot be used to "justify" it; so I have to agree with them in saying that it isn't the best analogy to use here. Not to put down your argument; I just don't think this was the best way to prove what you're saying. :)
