So does the list have to have our ranks on it? Couldn't we just put the names of those who qualified on it?
No, but I've also done lists of Memverse Semi-Finalists and Finalists, which is what I was mostly concerned about.
Matthew Minica
Thanks for the encouraging words :) I've always done the qualifiers list, but this year I'm not so sure if I should be the one to compile it. I'm not only on it this year, but with my rank, once Nationals rolls around, (I'm hoping) there's a good chance I may qualify for the Challenge Rounds, and I don't want to advertise myself.I understand. That's actually a good point. I wouldn't have thought of that if I were in your shoes. That's awesome! :D who should then? Mabe Nathan? :D
He could, but he's rarely on these days. I think I can still do it, but someone else can do the Challenge Round qualifiers. :)
Matthew Minica
Yes, I'm reviewing memory verses :)

Hi, you don't have to answer right away, i know you are studying, but what can I expect from the written rounds at nationals? This is my first year qualifying. By the way congratulations Matthew!
M27
OK. I thought that it would be kind of weird to have all our ranks on it… :)

Hi Keirstin! No, you probably have not met me. I am kinda new to the forums!

Go away Anna *Sings* Okay, bye..... Sorry, little Frozen moment. Love ya, bye!
A little girl once asked (jokingly) if I knew anyone named Christoff (misspelled?) :).
M27
Ah, OK :).

The Nationals test isn't very different from the Locals test (in my experience, anyway). One thing that I would recommend is not over-studying Greek. There probably won't be more than five questions on the test about Greek, though of course it may not be anything like the past two years.

Ok, thanks Anna!

And I replied :).

That's a good thing to know! I was wondering about that same thing myself.
M27
Great! I really could be wrong about that, but it was one thing that I noticed last year :).
Happy Holly
Okay! What about the oral rounds? Are they the same at Nationals as they were for locals a few years ago?
M27
I don't know about this year, but last year it was pretty different. Groups of about ten contestants went into a room with a microphone and small stage and had their oral round like that. Each contestant recited up to ten passages in seven minutes. The scoring was a bit different, too. It sounds scary, but I ended up really loving it!

I wish I knew the answer to this question. In previous years, the Nationals test was usually a lot harder for me than the Locals test. You should learn the context of each memory passage and find cross-references to the study passage from the memory verses. Also, focus on understanding everything so that you memorize so that you answer the not so straightforward questions. That's my advice!

Ok, thanks everett, i know this is probably a hard question to answer, so any tips are helpful!
Happy Holly
Oh yeah, that makes sense. Hmm…

How are you all studying for Nationals before they release the new materials? Are you mainly focusing on learning the early release verses really well?
Isaac
I'm still finishing up early release verses (I need to make sure that I know all the passages from John 1-6 -most of which I should know pretty well- and review some of the others.) But yes, I'm just working on those and the context right now, along with continuing to review locals book and passages. How 'bout you?
Matthew Minica
Yeah, pretty much. And looking up context, and review. That's pretty much all I know to do right now :P I have read through John 7-12 once. ;)
Isaac
-most of which I should know pretty well-
Didn't know it would cross it out… thought it would just be as I typed it. Now I know.

Lol! This is what you needed to do - more spaces. :)

Okay, thanks! I'm working on the memory passages and taking a look at John 7.

Yes, it's hard to know how to study right now, so I wanted so see what other people are doing. Thanks for sharing!
Isaac
okay thanks
Emma
is now caught up on BB conversation :P

Does John use Roman time or Jewish time? I've read conflicting opinions...
By comparison with another gospel, I think I figured out that John most likely uses Roman time. Compared with Mark 15:25, John 19:14 only makes sense if "the sixth hour" is Roman time, six-o-clock in the morning.

THE REST OF THE VERSES ARE OUTTTTT.

Haha, well, yep. xD
Emma
We have passages from every NT book except for Mark, Philemon, 2 John, and 3 John!
K
Ahh!!! Where are they? I can't find them!
Edit: Oh, never mind. I found them. :D
Gloria
The juniors have to learn 680+ local ones. :p
K
Wow, I think that's the most they've had to memorize since 2009! (Is that counting the overlapping verses?)
ZachB
I havent gone on and counted the Senior ones - probably close to 1000 though!
ZachB
it sure is, Katrina!
K
Wow! I'm glad we have more time this year then! :D
Gloria
ikr? my brother was like whaaa?! ^he's the one who made it, not me ^ (no that's not counting the overlapping ones. :p)
Gloria
lol yikes! :p
ZachB

Definitely!
K
Haha, and I thought it was going to be easier this year. Well, I guess if they don't have us study another book, then having lots of verses would make sense. (I still can't figure out if we have another book/passage to study… anyone else know?)
Gloria
Lol! We don't know… aren't they going to sent out a email sometime saying that?
Matthew Minica

If my calculations are correct, Seniors have 1077 total verses, 880 not counting overlap.
@Katrina - Yes, and my guess is it will be John 7-12. :)

K
Hi Matthew! Oh, okay; thanks!
ZachB
lol yikes! :p
1000 is going to be a big jump from the 600 that juniors had last year (I was a junior last year) but thankfully there's more time

From the looks of the memory passages, I doubt it. ;)
