Bible Bee Scripture Memory Verses Finalists

Time Posted on August 30, 2011 User Phil Walker

ROMANS 12:15 tells us to "Rejoice with those who rejoice..."  Here at Memverse we want to do that in congratulating any Memverse members who become Bible Bee Finalists!!  Please help me out as we attempt to find and list them all on this blog page.  We will also set up a new accountability chart to help encourage anyone who wants to memorize the extra 161/261/361 (including the 61 verses in 2 PETER) verses the Bible Bee Finalists will be memorizing or studying in getting ready for "Nashville in November".  All are welcome to join this chart even if you, like me, will not be competing in the November contest.  Regarding 2 PETER, you can treat those verses however you want. I would encourage contestants to consider memorizing the entire book to be best ready for the contest.  However, you may also declare them as "fully studied but not memorized" and we will still count it on this chart.

May we also be sensitive to Bible Bee participants who did not make the list of finalists.  ROMANS 12:15 ends with "... mourn with those who mourn."  The obvious truth is that being one of the finalists has little to do with how much God will use His powerful Scripture in your life in the years to come.  May we stress this and be gracious in our conversation on this blog.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Memverse Bible Bee Finalists:

Off topic, sorry.

@ Mr. Walker: Did you get the e-mail from my dad? He e-mailed you the calendar for memorizing Romans over the next sixteen months. He sent it to you at about 6:30 AM your time, so hopefully you got it and can post it soon!

Can't wait to figure out who they are! I know that I am probably not one of them as I got a horrible score, but I'm ok with that. God has grown me in so many different ways this summer! Can't wait to congratulate all the finalists! :)

For some reason, I tried going to the Bible Bee website and it said i had to be logged in, but I've never had to do that before...does anyone know why?

Im going to see everyone at Nationals because my dad is the CEO of the Bible Bee so I will get to see a great deal of diligent people, and see all their hard work pay off.

There is a way to get to the scores though the back door...although I have not discovered it yet. My mom knows it though, and maybe I might be able to share it here.

@Ashley Bible Bee Jr 11 (NASB) - I didn't get to compete because I was in the hospital until Thursday from a ruptured appendix. My dad didn't think it would be a good idea to compete on Saturday, even though the Local host offered to call the headquarters and see if they could send someone to test me wherever I was. (hospital or home) Wasn't that sweet? That's why I'm crying, though, 'cause I worked so hard and then wasn't able to compete at all in the Locals! :( *sniff* you're getting me worked up again. Just kidding! :) Haven't shed a tear about it, even though I'm really sad...:( Wow. I really wish I could go to Nationals! :) But, if I wasn't competing, I wouldn't want to go. I want to bee (haha) IN it, not watching it!!!! That's my personality! :)

@Theodore Ja - Congratulations! :)

@Zachary Baas - yes, yes, yes! :) I so wanna know if any of my friends made it or not!!!! :) I have a really good friend and her sisters made it to the top 5 in each of their divisions (JR & SR) and I really hope they make it. Their whole family is so cool! :)

Ok, so I don't know if i'm even supposed to be wrighting here, but I have to so...here it goes. I found out about the Bee about 5 or 6 days ago, so I don't know much. But I've been watching videos on youtube like crazy. The only problem is that I live in Peru (South America) and the only videos I can get are from 09 and 10. So sad. Anyway Does anyone know how I can get this year's ones? Oh can I participate in next year's ones from here or do I have to be in the country? Oops I almost forgot. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Briana - On the videos: Nationals 2011 is coming November 16-19 in Nashville, Tennessee, and so there are not videos yet for it. However, they will probably do a live "webcast" of the Finals again... I'm sure you'll hear more on that. The Bible Bee is currently limited to legal citizens of the fifty United States and the District of Colombia, but there is nothing to stop you from memorizing the verses. Also, I would hope that other countries would start similar programs.

Ok thanks. I think I got that, so I´ll try to keep up. But One thing....I am a legal citizen of the USA, at least I think I am. I mean, I was born in Iowa. Does that count? We just live here because we are missionaries. But I guess that means I can't compete from here right?

Oh! 1 more thing...how do I change my profile pic? And, um...what is the 29min mark?

Phil Walker

Briana, we are thrilled that a missionary from Peru is joining us on memverse. I was born in Indonesia on the mission field and have a theory that there are lots of missionary families around the world who would be thrilled to be memorizing Scripture with us here on memverse if they just gave it a chance. However, so far all my efforts to spread the word about memverse among the missionary community have come up mostly empty. I would love any help you could give in letting other missionaries (Maybe through missionary schools you attend or know about) know about memverse and/or ideas of how I can more effectively spread the word among missionary families.

The 29min mark refers to 29 minutes in from the start of the video. I will let others help you with changing your picture. Yes, being from Iowa does count as being a USA citizen. The Bible Bee is open to USA citizens taking the local contest abroad as long as there is an appropriate location willing to go through all the hoops to ensure a fair contest and pay the extra shipping costs. However, if you advanced, you would have to attend the Nationals in the USA in November 2012. If you cannot find someone in Peru to run the local Bible Bee and to receive the Bible Bee's approval to have one, you could still sign up for a local Bee in the USA while living in Peru and just be prepared to come to that location in August. I wish you all the best!!

Briana - You can change your profile picture by going to http://en.gravatar.com/ and signing up with the same email address you use on Memverse. That website will help you add a picture to associate with your email address, and then when Memverse looks up your profile picture it will find that one. That would be cool if you could participate in the Bee! And like Phil said, it would be great if you could spread the word about Memverse among missionaries!

Phil - Thank you for explaining how you can participate in the Bee as a U.S. citizen even while living abroad.

Thanks for sharing with us Victoria. So we have at least 2 families using memverse and might get more. Praise God. Thanks for spreading the word about memverse. Can I ask where you are missionaries?

Christian, sorry for my delay in getting back to you. I am terrible on computers and have no idea how to post your Dad's awesome calendar that came through to me excellent on word. Perhaps you can set up a pdf file to send people to, or email it to Alex so he can find a way to post it on memverse. I will share the basics of it on the 1 PETER blog without any graphics.

Alex and Briana, I want to clarify that it is not easy for someone to host a local Bible Bee overseas. There are issues the local hosts will have to work through with Headquarters and extra costs involved in shipping everything overseas. I just wanted to make the point that Bible Bee is open to the idea and so it is possible. (I believe it has not been done, but HQ looked into possibly doing it with a group in Germany - possibly US military personel.)

OK thanks Mr. Walker. My mom is actually even more excited about this than I am, so she is going to talk about it at the next missionary meeting. And if we get an appropriate location would we still have to have someone special to test us or could we do it on skype or something?

Briana - Yes, the Bible Bee does have rules on that... You would have to have a local contest with judges who could proctor your written test and figure out the points for your oral round, and they can't be immediate family. (At least, that's how it has worked here...) Here in the US, my family helped host a local bee with around 45 children participating which took about 40+ volunteers. Maybe your missionary group would be able to help serve as volunteers for a local contest next August and hopefully their children would be interested too.

Christian - Thanks. Phil also sent it to me, and I didn't see yours till just now because it went into my Spam folder! Attention Google: A calendar for memorizing Romans is not spam. :)

Alright, great! Hopefully you can smoothly transfer it to a PDF file that you can link to from a blog post, for all of those who want to join us. I'll find out tonight at our church's prayer meeting how many others from my church will be joining us. So far, there's for sure: Nicolas, my dad, a young married couple, and me. Then there are potentially some other friends of mine who are already on memverse who are going to make their decision once they see the calendar. I pray that there will be a lot of people who want to join us on this big investment.

P.S. The interesting thing about prayer meeting tonight is that it always starts at 7:00 PM EST, so I'll be half an hour away when the scores are posted! :P

I didn't make it :( I'm sad because it was my last year. And I was so close! I'm 173 Nationwide and 8 in California. I just needed 200 more points to make it! Oh well. I'm definitely going to keep memorizing scripture for the rest of my life! The Bible Bee has sparked an interest and passion in me to learn God's word. May everyone who doesn't make it to Nationals remember that we have a treasure in our hearts that can never be taken away! And congratulations to everyone who did make it!

Is it okay if I declare some passages that I already know here?

Assuming your answer will be yes, here goes: Matthew M - TX - Sets A, B, & C: Psalm 34:4-19, Romans 12:6-12, Romans 12:14-18, Ephesians 4:32, 1 Timothy 1:17 = 30 verses

BTW: I am only declaring these verses because I am SURE that I know them. I have them all memorized on Memverse already.

EDIT: Except for Ephesians 4:32. :) I have not even added that one yet. But I KNOW that I know the verse - it was just about the first one I ever memorized!

Congratulations, Matthew, you beat me at getting the first declaration in. I'm glad you're joining us again. I actually changed the rules a little. We are including 2 PETER on this chart. Therefore the new junior declarations are 13 verses. I am posting one letter per day for those in the lead. I will post your B tomorrow. Feel free to just declare 9 verses for your C declaration, since you already declared 4 extra verses for your A and B.

Kaitlyn, great to see you are up for another accountability encouragement. With the new change in declaration #, you owe me 3 verses and can simply declare 16 in your B set to catch up or catch up the extra 3 later. I trust the new count will not deter you from continuing with the chart.

Declaration for Phil W IND set A = PSALM 19:7-10 (incredible verses); 121:1-8 (what comfort!); JOHN 3:1-3; ROMANS 8:26-28 = 18 Verses

Did anybody notice that the 6 who completed the previous accountability chart all qualified as National Finalists!!!! Praise God! Congratulations to Bethany, Josiah, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Christian, and Nicolas. I hope you all and many others continue to join us on this new declaration chart!

All are welcome, even if you, like me, are not actually competing in the National Bible Bee Finals.

Please help me update my list of Finalists registered on memverse. Currently I have:

Seniors: Christian Alexander, Josiah DeGraaf, Laura Hedstrom, Grace Mieczkowski, Marie Morris, Bethany Pentimone, Alex Watt

Juniors: Nicolas Alexander, Zachary Baas, Hannah Del Toro, Clara Kho, Matthew Minica, Courtney Minica, Carissa Pentimone, Hannah Teeters, Kaitlyn Vredevoogd,

Primary: No confirmations, but I do have questions on siblings who made it. Are Felice Kho (P), David Pentimone (P), Thomas Teeters (P), and/or Melody Mieczkowski (S) on memverse?

Phil - Thanks for starting the list. I'm not able to answer your questions about other possible Memverse users, but I do have a few people that can be added to the list and a few other questions. Abigail Brigham (Abigail Grace on Memverse) and Olivia Guillard (Olivia G. on Memverse) are two other National Senior qualifiers. I'm relatively sure Emily Brigham (Junior National qualifier) is on Memverse also. Also, Prasanth Venigalla has participated in some of the quizzes, and I notice "Pallavi Sarah Venigalla" is a Primary National qualifier - probably a sibling (can someone clarify?). Anyone else not named in the list that qualified or knows a Memverse qualifier should please post a comment so we can have the correct information.

Congratulations to all of you!

Thanks, Alex. I added Abigail, Olivia, and Emily. What level is Prasanth?

I have typed out the NIV verses in word and will, Lord willing, have them available here on memverse in all 3 levels, as well as prompterized, on study stack and this time set up to make the Bible Bee camp game of unscrambling the long verses. Congrats to all of you who worked hard over the summer to learn the Bible Bee verses!!! I'm amazed at how hard all the contestants worked at studying the Bible. It's wonderful to see you all so excited about learning the Word of God. To all of you who qualified for nationals, great job! If you didn't qualify, you've still earned a very priceless treasure by learning God's Word, and great job on your diligence in studying, nonetheless.

@PhilWalker--Thanks for all the encouragement that you've been to the BB contestants over the summer. I know my sisters were very blessed by it, as I'm sure many others were as well.

I might be joining you all in this challenge next year =)

Congratulations to all who made it! I'm looking forward to the new verses and 2 Peter!

Thanks for putting us up, Alex=) Yes, Emily has a Memverse account, although we both did most our studying offline. We enjoyed doing the quizzes on here! Elizabeth Ledford also is a Memverse user; like Emily and me, she did most of her studying offline but participated in several quizzes.

See you in Nashville=) I'm so excited to meet so many of you!!

Congratulations, everyone! Even if you didn't qualify for Nationals, it's still wonderful that you are learning God's Word! Keep up the hard work! I placed 65th in the Senior division.

Thank you, Mr. Walker, for letting us do this chart again! It was very helpful for last time! Also, David Pentimone is my little brother (P) but he is not on memverse.

Set A - Psalm 121:1-8, Matthew 6:25-34 = 18 verses

One more thing: Allison (I'm not sure of her last name) made it in the Junior Division. She is very new to Memverse, so I don't know if she will declare verses.

I added Rachel, Prasanth, Nina, and Darcy. Great to see so many Bible Bee finalists on memverse! I would love to see any and all who think it could be helpful and encouraging join us with our chart above.

Grace, it would be very nice to see both you and your sister Melody (and friend Darcy) join us.

Wonderful to see both Bethany and Carissa joining us. I praise God for that providential meeting your mom had with Jim Woychuk which has already brought forth such fruit. (Please pass on my congratulations to your brother David.)

Prasanth, Congratulations to being in another 3 finalists family. Your parents must be very thankful. Are your brother Anand and/or sister Pallavi on memverse?

Laura, I agree that there could be quite a Memverse "so nice to meet you offline" get together at Nationals. I don't believe I and my wife will be able to make it this year, but it is still possible.

Bethany, if you could track down Allison's last name, I would like to add her to the list.

Abigail, what division is your friend Elizabeth Ledford in?

Amy, thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I am curious who your sisters are, and yes, it would be good to hear if you decide to join in next year.

Actually, I'm older sister to Bethany, Carissa, and David :) I'm so thankful to God for allowing them to participate in the BB and look forward to seeing how God will continue to use this in their life. I didn't participate in the BB this year, but I may next year, if the Lord allows, as that would be the last year that I'm in the age limit.

@Mr. Walker - Thank you for letting us do this chart again for our verses! I appreciate it greatly! Yes, I'm so glad that we got to meet the Woychuk's! They told us, that they will probably be going to Nationals, which means we will get to see them again! I passed your words on to David, and he said to tell you "thank you" :)

Okay, you can put down Allison now. "Allison Couch"

@Amy - Oh, I hope you do it next year! We would get to be Seniors together...how fun would that be?! Okay, it might be hard because we are using different translations (why don't you switch to ESV?!) and that we would be competing agianst each other...but it would still be tons of fun!

Stephanie, welcome to memverse and thanks for joining us on this Finalists accountability chart. Congratulations on making it to the Finals.

Thanks for clarifying, Amy. It looks like Daniel is another Pentimone sibling joining us on memverse. Is he the oldest? Did both of you join the family trip to my 2nd favorite Scripture memory event, the Scriptorium in Hannibal, MO. This past July was actually the first one I have missed in 5 years. I pray I and my wife will make future ones.

Phil W IND Set B declaration: Psalm 20:7; Rom 8:1-2; 10:9-13; and one of my all-time favorite Matthew 6:25-34 = 18 verses. How awesome is it that Bible Bee finalists are memorizing the MATTHEW passage! Is it possible that God might raise up a new breed of Christians who actually believe Jesus' radical words here? How the USA church could use believers who think that knowing the All-powerful, All-knowing, All-loving, multi-billionaire Creator God as our caring and ever watchful Father and having a guarenteed glorious, 1,000+ year retirement worth more than billions of dollars can give us more peace than thousands of dollars in the bank reserved for now and for the "all-important?" short pre-retirment here on earth.

Elizabeth Ledford is a senior. Her brothers, Andrew and Anthony, are juniors, but I'm not sure if they're on here.

How are everyone's new verses and 2 Peter going? Emily and I are enjoying the challenge of putting together our own Sword Study!

Darcy, I think I met you after the oral rounds--we were playing foosball in the family fun area=)

@ Mr. Walker - National contestants should be memorizing 1) Primary 2-4, 2) Junior 4-8 and 3) Senior 6-12. If we are expected to do a declaration every day, wouldn't it be better to do 50 declaration of Primary, 2, Junior, 4 and Senior, 6? Just a thought.

Kaitlyn and Matthew - I agree it sounds like a good idea. Yes, Matthew, I think that's what it was called. Does anyone remember how that worked for the different age divisions? I don't recall where the Seniors are when the Juniors are going to Family Fun... I guess Seniors might be in there at the same time, which would work, unless they have to take the Written Test at that point... We have a lot of Juniors & Seniors using Memverse and going to Nationals (not any Primary contestants yet to our knowledge). We may need to wait for the schedule to come out to be able to plan in more detail...

As I remember, the schedule from last year was like this...
At 8:00, the Primaries had their Oral Test and the Juniors did their Written Test. Then at 9:00, the Seniors went to their Written Test and the Primaries and Juniors had a 30-minute break. At 9:30 the Primaries did the Written Test, and the Juniors did the Orals, while at 10:00 the Seniors had a 30-minute break and then went to Orals at 10:30. The competition was finished at 11:30, at which time all of the contestants were in the Family Fun Room.
Not 100% sure, just what this imperfect human mind can remember... :)

@ Matthew I went to the link and I'm a little confused. It says that I ranked 329th but does that mean in the nation or in the state? Because I noticed that someone in a different state got 329th also. thanks

Jess, that will mean 329th in the nation, but it is filtered also by your age division and track. It is a little confusing. :)

Okay, Thanks, @Racheal Crosswhite I placed 329th in the nation. This is the first year I have participated. What about you?

Matthew, your schedule looks right to me! The seniors and juniors didn't have overlapping time in the Family Fun area--all the seniors just had an extra hour to sleep and study=) But if anyone wants to meet there, they can. The only downside is that once you're in, you're not allowed out until all the rounds are over. Maybe it would be better to meet a little before one of the assemblies or something...it will be fun when we can see "face to face," as 1 Corinthians says (I think that over computer is even more dimly than in a mirror!). I was thinking it would be fun to get a group picture of all the Memverse users/ accountability forum members who are there!

Zachary, great to see you joining us here on the new declaration chart. I like your idea, but feel like some people might not like making so many declarations so we will keep it to 20 declarations.

Kaitlyn, a gathering for Memverse users at Nationals is a fantastic idea. We would love to include a picture of all memverse users who attend in the December newsletter. I believe memverse will have a booth at Nationals, so that would be one natural place to meet for a group picture (as well as a great place to bring all your new "not yet memverse users" friends :) We will share more on this as we learn more. We will most likely be looking to set up a schedule of volunteers to help us host the booth and enthusiastically share about memverse to visitors.

Kaitlyn, are you trying to start a new trend here: Declaring 10, then 16, then another 16, then planning to go back to 10 rather than the conventional 13 each time that other juniors are doing. Should I have picked a different number than the "unlucky" 13?

Phil Walker IND set C = ROMANS 12:6-12 (12:9-12 has long been my favorite passage to encourage sports team I coached to memorize together); ROMANS 12:14-18 (I love these verses, but wish they didn't exclude ROMANS 12:13 which is surely missing from much of our "Live in a bubble and be afraid of strangers, especially poor strangers" Christian culture); 2 CORINTHIANS 4:16 (enjoy more and more as I get older, and yet with Jacky's and God's help, feel younger every day.); 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-21 (May we with confidence share with others the world's greatest "exchange program" in history found in 2 CCORINTHIANS 5:21)

Sarah, I will join you in praying that you and your family will be able to get to Nationals. Can I ask where you live?

Laura, welcome to the accountability chart. Great to see you join us. You are welcome to declare the 2 PETER verses even if you have memorized them in the past. Maybe you could quote some each declaration as a review, or just declare them at the end to make sure you still have them sharp.

God's Bondslave, I and my wife Jacky will also join you in praying for all the Memverse contestants in the Bible Bee finals, and especially for those who declare on this chart.

Daniel, Hi. Thanks for introducing yourself. I'm sorry I missed meeting your family at the Scriptorium. I am curious what school you are at. One of my most passionate prayer request is that Scripture memory and an authentic treasuring of the Bible would become a more normal part of Christian colleges and seminaries and Christian groups on secular campuses. I have become more and more aware and saddened by the negative snowball effect damage caused by having graduates of Christian colleges and seminaries not know or love Scripture. Being here in the Far East it is obvious to see much of the Christian culture trying to copy all the latest and greatest Scripture trivializing trends, programs, initiatives and teaching coming out of the USA church.

Memverse will soon start a school leaderboard. Do you have some friends you can encourage to memorize on your campus, and maybe even together consider an outreach to share the treasure of Scripture with others on your campus.

Victoria, very good to hear that you are in China. I am close by in the Philippines on my way to Indonesia. Both countries have many Chinese active in the church. I would love to go to China someday!! What does your family do there in China? Do you attend the International school or have other places you can share about memverse? I would love to see more active members from China and Peru from you and Briana spreading the word.

Sarah, thanks for the details. We will keep praying for your family to be able to go. Even though an 8 hours drive is not close, it could be farther. Do you have friends you can stay with in Nashville or other housing options near the Nationals that could cut down the cost a little?

We mostly do discipleship type work. We are home schooled, but we do know quite a few people from the International school here. Also I am planning to tell some Chinese friends who know English quite well.

EDIT: @Phil: You never put down my "D" declaration on the chart. I think that was my fault, because I declared two letters when I was only supposed to do one, being in the lead in my group. You probably forgot about it, having so many other things to think about. Sorry about that. :)

Christian, great to see you joining our accountability chart again. Is your brother planning a new chart debut soon?

Yes, Bethany, we are flexible.

Matthew, please forgive my forgetting to post your D set. We are still not yet posting double declarations for anyone close to the lead. Do you believe in 2nd chances? I trust I will remember to post your F set tomorrow.

Grace, we will look forward to your declarations. Is there still a chance your sister will join us?

Daniel, did you see my earlier post? I am curious what school you are going to?

I wonder if it would work in other translations.) COLOSSIANS 3:1-4 = 18 verses

Mr. Walker--yes, I will be joining soon. It may take a while, though--I have so much going on around here--mostly because I've committed to so much here on Memverse. :) Thanks, everyone for all the ideas, insights, etc, that have pushed me to dive deeper into my faith. It's great to have a second community of believers striving after the same goal, encouraging me and each other as we go (the first one, of course, is my church ;) ). Since being on Memverse, I have committed to memorizing the Bible, memorizing 1 Peter and Romans some time before next year is over, and reading ten chapters of the Bible a day, and I haven't regretted a minute of it! I have grown discouraged a few times (especially after school began), but I know that this studying and working will bring me closer to God and will reap eternal benefits!

Thank you so, so, so much for creating Memverse, Andy, and for continuing it, everyone else! I don't know what would have happened had God not brought Memverse into my life. You might not realize just how much this great website has done, Andy! Keep up the good work!

@Phil Walker - Hi Mr. Walker, Sorry for my slow response! I've been so busy recently. In answer to your question, I am part of Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City. I'm working on my RN degree - I'll graduate in May! Certainly there is a lot of work to do on college campuses. I have been and will continue to keep my eye out for opportunities to share truth on my campus... and promote study of the Scripture whenever possible. Certainly, the Bible is the sure method of revival - sola scriptura!

Well, good to meet you online, and I will try to do a better job at responding to comments.

2 Peter 1:1-9

Since I'm doing a verse a day, I may end up trying to memorize 2 Peter while I'm at it. I memorized Chapter 1 verses 3-8 for the Bible Bee already, so that part's taken care of. @Mr. Walker - Okay, I have a problem (it's my problem, not yours) looking through the verses I declared already, I made a mistake by declaring Ephesians 5:15-21 twice. What should I do about that? I was thinking about editing my second comment with it and adding another passage that I know that is the same length. Is that what you would suggest doing? Sorry about that!

Alex, thanks so much for fixing my ability to edit and catch up with the chart. Will you be joining us this time around?

Josiah, great to see your Double Declaration day. One more is allowed before you may have to either wait for Laura and/or Bethany to get further ahead, or resort to mere, more boring single declarations.

Nicolas, my spelling error has been resolved. Please forgive my mistake. Your account is now up to date and ready for your hinted at come from behind burst of activity.

Bethany, your solution to the double EPHESIANS 5:15-21 situation sounds great. (Have you tried singing EPH 5:15-21 to "Doe a Deer"? It fits perfectly in the NIV) You may actually have a bigger problem in that you are declaring more than one group as group "G" It may be hard to make it to "T" at the end of the chart if this problem is not fixed.

Thanks for encouraging me with all the Scripture!! I love praying and dreaming of what God may do in your lives through His Word!!

@Mr. Walker - Okay, alright. So, I'll just add in another passage instead of EPHESIANS 5:15-21. Sorry about the mistake. No, I hadn't every tried singing that passage to that song, until you told me. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the best with the ESV. I will have to try it in the NIV though :)

Great to see all the declarations! You guys are in our prayers as you memorize and meditate on these verses. It excites me to think of you memorizing this Scripture (especially when you post one of my favorite) as I can't help but believe that God will use His Word powerfully in your lives for years to come!!

Kerestel, is that a new picture of you, or am I just not very observant?

Bethany, thanks for the reminder about the Bible Bee profiles of the finalists. I was on that page the first few days before most of the pictures were up. I'm sure Jacky and I will be going there in the future to see and pray more intelligently and personally for the memverse finalists and other finalists we know and love who we have not yet convinced to join memverse. (My sincere thanks will go out to anyone in Nashville who encourages my good friends Jessica and Julia Hofmeister to join us on memverse.) On a different note, I appreciate your desire to want to declare often and consistently. However, I do hope that you are doing so joyfully and peacefully when it fits best in your schedule. I would be very sad to think that I had made you or anyone else feel obligated to declare.

Alex, thanks for adding, "Join Phil's accountability chart" to all the other wonderful things you do on and for memverse. I added the 15 verse half-asleep, late night 2 PETER declaration as your B set, so you owe an extra 3 verses for your C or some future set.

Bethany, yes, your double declaration counted this time. As long as your 2nd declaration is still behind the age group leader I will post both the same day.

Clara, thanks for the information about Felice and Caleb. Are they national finalists? If so, in what age group?

Great job, everyone. You are in my and Jacky's prayers. I think this is a record with 4 Senior Finalists all declaring the same day!

Laura, good to know you love HEBREWS 10:19-25. This is also one of my favorites and one of the first passages I memorized years ago. HEBREWS 10:23-25 in the NIV (sung to "You are my Sunshine") is also one of my all-time favorite Scripture songs that the Stevensons and Hannah Garcia jointly came up with for me. I'm only allowed to do 2 declarations per day, right?

@Bethany; Our computer for some reason won't let me put pictures on the internet; it keeps saying that there was an error, a file wasn't found, etc. I had a good picture (by my standards) just for the Bible Bee of me reciting my memory verses to our goats and cow, but I can't get it on :( Maybe it will get fixed in time for me to put the picture up.
500 verses should be fairly easy. I have a couple hundred that I'm 'learning' (which are perfectly memorized), and I'm planning on doing all 1,100 of this year's BB verses if I can, but so far I don't have any classified as "memorized", they're all "learning". How long does is take to get them memorized?! That will leave just 400 to put us on the top.

I have a question; is there any way to do the refferece recall on only selected verses? For instance, I want to work on the references for 1 and 2 Peter, and not all the other ones I'm learning. Is it possible to set it so that it only gives me those verses?

Seth - Two quick things:

1) I've also had the file upload problems on my computer recently. It seems that the latest version(s) of Firefox have some issues; I got around it by using Google Chrome, though Internet Explorer may work just as well. We'd all like to see your "real" smiling face! :)

2) At this point, you can only review references on Memverse that are given to you under the "Reference Recall" part of the memorize tab.

@Seth - Hmmm...that's to bad about the picture :( We use Internet Explorer and it works just fine for us. Hopefully, you will be able to get it up soon! So, I'm taking it, you live on a farm?

The 500 is now down to 400! I got to memorize a lot today, and someone else has been memorizng a lot in MO :) I'm learning about 375 in my account right now, which, I hope, I'll be able to memorize soon! I hope that you will be able to memorize a lot soon, too. How is the studying goin going on National verses? It depends on how long it takes to memorize a verse, on how you rate it. But, your interval has to be 31 or higher to be classified as "Memorized" :)

I believe that you can declare more than two, so long as you are not in the lead :)

Seth, my apology for not answering your previous question sooner. We prefer a maximum of 2 declarations per day for those who are catching up. We will change this in a couple weeks to give new people just joining ample time to complete the chart. However, we do not want to be legalistic in any way and seek to serve everyone with whatever works best for them. I trust it was helpful for you as you posted your references. Now that you are among the elite leaders for your group, please post a maximum of only one single declaration of 18 verses per day from this point on. @Bethany- In my antecedent comment I utilized to my advantage the expression several, not a couple. A 'couple' by definition indicates two; 'several' is a distinct expression used to indicate an aggregate of unknown quanity; more extensive than an enumerate one or two but not of a considerable amount. I was assuming you were to, when you used the smiley :) To tell the truth, I did have to look up a few words that you used, to make sure I knew what they meant =) Wow! Good job on memorizing lots of the Hebrew passages! You mentioned in an above comment that it might be difficult to memorize those, but it looks like you got them memorized! I had the most difficulty memorizing the Corinthian passages...

Sometimes I just like to talk like that. I've gotten quite some comments. I've even been asked if I'm going to major in English:)
I added the smiley later, I should have put it in the original. Yes, I had some trouble with Corinthians too. Still, I think Hebrews is the hardest, with 1 and 2 Peter close behind (yes, I know, that's just great when we're supposed to bu studying them.) John's writings (gospel of John, 1,2,3 John, and Revelation) seem to be the easiest for me to memorize. What about you?

No kidding about the Corinthians passages being hard! I'm finally on the last one, after being stuck on them for longer than I would have liked. :) But you must memorize much faster than me, because I'm still back at 2 Corinthians and haven't even begun to memorize anything beyond that! Congratulations to all of you who are way ahead of me. :) Anyway, here are my next two declarations--

@Seth - I have the hardest with Ephesians, 1 and 2 Corinthians and Ezekial...or any Minor Prophet, except for Daniel :) I find the easiest to memorize are the Gspels, Acts, Philippians and James :) One thing I have found very helpful is reading the book over and over (in this case, 2 Peter) That will get you familiar with it, and bring out things you might not have noticed before. Doing this, I have started to notice lots of things that I did realize about before!

@Mr. Walker - Oh, I finished the chart?! I didn't know that I had, until, while I was scrolling down, I saw your comment under my name on the chart! I know why I was confused. Do you remember how I told you that I had declared Ephesians 5:15-21 twice? Well, I thought I had corrected it early, but looking back, I realized that I hadn't. So, I just added my remaining 7 verses of 2 Peter instead of the second declaration of Ephesians 5:15-21. Sorry if that didn't make any sense...

Maybe I should take Alex's idea next time (if I ever have to declare anymore) and add up how many verses I'm declaring. That way, I won't always get messed up :) Thank you for praying for me and my siblings (and lots of the BB contestants) as we prepare for Nationals. It is truly appreciated!

If you think it would be beneficial and/or encouraging to you, we would still love for you to complete the chart. Maybe you can turn it into your "Passages that are Nashville ready" chart and only declare passages that you can easily quote word perfect without hesitation or error or recent (last 24 hours) review.

With Finals less than 4 weeks away, we are now giving our full blessing to those who want to make 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 declarations in one day. As always, we are not legalistic and will accept even more declarations in a day if you feel that would help you best, or if you just want to do it that way, but we advise a max. of 5 per day. Congratulations on finishing the chart, Matthew!

Melody and I will look forward to your practice test :) My sister Anna has also taken up the task of collating a written test from questions submitted by 7 or 8 finalist families in our area. I might be able to post a link to it when she's done (in about a week).

Matthew, CONGRATULATIONS on being the 5th finalist to complete this chart of 261 verses. You are in Jacky and my daily prayers as you sharpen all 700 verses for Nashville and study 1 and 2 PETER. Looking forward to seeing your practice written test. Thanks so much for doing that. Grace, I would also love to see the one your sister is compiling. If anyone else has practice tests or practice questions made up, I would love to see them and pass them on.

For those who are wondering, I will have the test in two editions: Junior and Senior. I am not making one for Primary because there is not any finalists on Memverse that I can see are active. The Senior edition will have 16 different questions about Level 3 verses; otherwise, Junior and Senior will be the same.

I started out making this test for Courtney and a Senior finalist from our locals, Joshua Smithe, but then I thought What a great thing to share about on Memverse! It actually is good studying for me too, making all those questions and all. Makes me really think about it. :)

Laura, I see you finished declaring 2 PETER. Do you still have 18 more verses to declare to finish at T or did we lose count somewhere?

Mr. Walker,

I just noticed that everyone else kept going to T. :) However, I've memorized all the verses. I'll have to check and see which ones I forgot to declare.

Also, in the blog post, it appears that all the chart completers only got to T. Or is the T part of "Thanks" ?

Thanks Mr. Walker. This chart has been very helpful to me. I love the comaraderie!

IMPORTANT:

Hi all national qualifiers,

My family is looking for someone to share a hotel room with at the Nashville Renaissance Hotel. We are one person over the five in a room limit (we have six in our family). Right now we only have one room reserved at the Renaissance, since we didn't know beforehand that two members of our family could go. So now we're kind of stuck, since we have 6 people going to Nationals and only one room reserved. All we need is room for one extra person in your room (who would only be sleeping there and returning to our room in the morning). So if you would be willing to fit one extra person in your room (or in a second room you might have reserved, if you have over 5 people staying at the hotel), we would be more than willing to share the cost of the room.

PLEASE consider this! I'm sure Tammy McMahan will be able to work things out if you are willing to share a room. Keep in mind that we would share the cost of the room, saving both of our families money. If this is even a slight possibility for you, please email us (the Guillard family) at: dmguillard@hotmail.com; or reply to this comment. Thank you so much!!!
