Scripture Stickies contests, discounts, and prizes

Time Posted on November 08, 2011 User Phil Walker

Julie Alvarez - yes the same Julie who helped spice up our 100,000th Verse contest - has offered some more prizes and discounts in her endorsement of Memverse.  Here is what she has to say:

Hi, Memverse members! I want you to know that I love what you're doing in memorizing God's Word. I want to use my ministry, Scripture Stickies, to point people towards the joy and benefit of using Memverse and also to encourage and bless those of you already using Memverse. There are many ways to memorize Scripture of course but we found that one of the most helpful ways for many people is to have it sticking all over the place to be read over and over! Hence Scripture Stickies! Here are some of the exciting promotions that we have going on right now in conjunction with Memverse:

Each month there will be a new contest exclusively for Memverse users with the winner receiving a free Scripture Stickies pack.

SCRIPTURE STICKIES past winners:

Predicting 100,000 Grand winner = NathanV;  other winners included Carissa; Phil Walker; Sydney Reed; Elisabeth Sinclair and SavedByGrace

November 2011 contest winner = Mommy's Helper

December 2011 contest winner = AstroJohn

January 2012 contest winner = ChosenByHim

February 2012 contest winner = Erika Wenzel

March 2012 winner = Anna Mieczkowski

April/May 2012 winners = ? (Please let us know if you were a winner of the April/May contest with your entry listed on the Scripture Stickies website.)

June/July 2012 winner = Emily Hamilton

August 2012 winner = Eunice Sofia from India (our first winner outside the USA)

Sept/Oct 2012 winner = ?? If you submit an entry it could be you!

Sept/Oct 2012 contest

For our Sept/October contest I would love to hear what verse or Bible story God has recently been using in your life and how. Please share and encourage all of us! For me right now it is the story of the man born blind and the disciples ask why this happened- was it sin in his life or his parents. Jesus reminded them that this happened not due to anyone's sin but so that the work of God could be shown in His life. As I go through trials I need to remember that God's work is being shown in my life as I trust in Him and put Him at the forefront. What a testimony to others (and to myself!!) when this happens. Thank you, Jesus.

For those of you not on our regular mailing list, here is a link to our most recent Scripture Stickies newsletter so you can check it out: http://www.scripturestickies.com/newsletter.html

In addition to contests I want to offer special discounts to Memverse users. Right now Scripture Stickies is offering a 15% discount to everyone who has memorized at least one verse on memverse. To receive this discount, insert the code MEMVERSE1 when you place your order. Use this code to get a great discount on Scripture Stickies packs for yourself or for friends and family! This code is also valid on Scripture of the Month Clubs and favors.

I would also like to encourage you when you reach a special highlight on Memverse. When you reach 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, etc. or your state or church make a debut on the Leaders board, or move up in rank (for example from 5th to 4th place) or memorize any multiple of 1,000 verses, you will have one week to claim a 25% discount and insert the code MEMVERSEHIGHLIGHT when you order. Please list what the specific highlight was either on this blog or by email info@scripturestickies.com

It is exciting to see that there are so many young people memorizing so much Scripture and even over 35 of you joining SavedByGrace in hoping to memorize the entire Bible in your lifetime!! Scripture Stickies will award a free one year subscription to the Scripture Stickies of the Month Club to the first person who reaches 5,000 verses memorized on Memverse, and a free pack of the Scripture Stickies of your choice to all who reach the 5,000 milestone.

Finally, I encourage all Memverse users to check out www.scripturestickies.com from time to time to see new features, new packs being offered or to participate in contests open to the general public.

May God bless you as you continue to memorize and meditate on God's Word.

It was so neat meeting many of you in Nashville.  Thanks for stopping by my Scripture Stickies booth.

Thanks, Julie, for spreading the word about Memverse through your website and ministry and for encouraging those of us already on Memverse.

This sounds wonderful!!!

I have a few questions :)

Firstly, how many times may one enter?
Secondly, would I qualify for getting the 25% off on an order?

thanks!!!

PS I'll be posting my entry on here soon. Thanks!

Rachel, the contest open to the public only needs one entry. You can submit as many entries as you want for the Memverse only November contest (although only one is needed). You qualify for the 25% off if you have reached a personal memorizing highlight or your state or church has moved up in rank in the last week.

SavedByGrace

This is great! Thank you! I'm the first from OH to post, so does that really mean I get the Scripture Stickies free?? I would love to give these things out at my church. I would probably keep sixty or so for my family and me (my mom likes to put verses on sticky notes and stick them everywhere anyway), and give the rest out to people at church, 9 of which are on Memverse. I'm sure we'd all enjoy them. And one question--what if I'm the first from Ohio more than one time? I'll just have hundreds of them lying around everywhere? I guess I'm okay with that. :)

P.S. You said, "To receive this discount, insert the code MEMVERSE1 when you place your order." Where do I place my order exactly? On your website? Thanks again!

I decided to submit Matthew 1:23 in ESV. I like it because it tells about the coming of Jesus--I just like it!! Thank you, Mrs. Alvarez!

I will probably be doing the same thing that SavedByGrace will be doing if I win--keeping some for me and my family and giving some to other people at my church.

@Jesus-Paid-It-All: Sorry you couldn't get on. I could. It seems weird that both you and Matthew Minica couldn't get on. Maybe the reason I could get on is because I did it kind of earlier in the afternoon.

P.S. I just memorized my 10th verse today! I LOVE it!

Thanks Mrs. Alvarez! This is great idea! I have to say I was pretty disappointed when I found out my extremely close guess for 100,000 verses was incorrect. I do have one question though - do you have to be the first person from your state to enter if you want to win?

If so, I suppose I won't get anything this time, because my friend, SavedByGrace and my sister, Mommy's Helper got there first.

If not, I'd like to submit Isaiah 9:6. This is such a great verse, I'll add it to my list on Memverse! It is comforting to know that we have a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace! My chosen translation would be the English Standard Version.

Thanks again!

Hi.

Thank you, Mrs. Alvarez, for your generous offer. I would like Isaiah 40:3-5 in NKJ, please.

@Mr. Walker: I've heard that once someone memorizes 1,000 verses, they can edit/delete other people's comments. You may want to watch out for cheaters who might delete all comments except their own.
JUST KIDDING! I'm sure that won' t happen. No one on MemVerse would do that. Well, at least one would hope not....

Thanks again!!

By the way, everyone, if you're ever addressing me in one of your comments, just call me OCTSRIS.

I am glad everyone is getting excited about the contests- they are lots of fun! Let me clarify a few things to answer some questions about the contests and the discounts:

There are two different contests and for both you just need to enter once:
1- The Christmas Scripture Stickies contest you enter here on this blog page and it doesn't matter which state you are from. This is only open to Memverse users.
2-The 100 free Scripture Stickies you enter on www.scripturestickies.com and if you are the first from your state to enter you will win. This is open to everyone. We have had winners in about 10% of the states so far so there are still lots of prizes to be won! (any of you who entered this one by leaving a comment here you need to go to the Scripture Stickies website and reenter it there.

The discounts:
-You enter the coupon codes when you check out on http://www.scripturestickies.com/shop.html:
either complete Google checkout (secure with a credit card) or download the order form at the top of the page and submit via mail with a check.
-The 15% you are eligible for now simply if you have memorized on verse on Memverse, the 25% you get if you reached a highlight this week. Plan your Christmas shopping and use the discounts accordingly :)

A final note about the contest on www.scripturestickies.com - if you are not the first from your state and do not win this time - you can still order the 100 Scripture Stickies at a very reduced rate until the contest is over.

Sound good? God bless!

2 Corinthians 5:17

My entry :)

I choose Isaiah 9:6. I first memorized this verse by music. I love it because of all the names of God in it.

Mrs. Alavrez, where can you find out if you are the first person or not in your state to submit a entry for the 'how would you share 100 scripture stickes' contest?

You will receive an email a few days after your entry letting you know if you were the first or not from your state. As we approach the end of the contest in a few weeks we will have a list on our website showing which states still need entries.

SavedByGrace

Okay, I see (after reading your comment, Mrs. Alvarez). I guess I'll just do this some other time. But I would like to get Luke 1:30-33 (in the NIV.) It is a great reminder of how we will one day be with Jesus forever, after He has returned. I'm planning on memorizing that entire chapter (the second longest in the Bible, I think), and I may announce it on Memverse soon, asking people to join me. :) So, is this like a drawing or something, or do we get it automatically by posting a comment like this on Memverse? And also, does it just get mailed to us if we share our address (which I would not like to do on a blog post)? Sorry for all my questions. :)

Julie Alvarez

It's so fun to read about everyone's favorite verses from the Scripture Stickies Christmas pack! Personally I love Isaiah 9:6 which calls God by so many names that encourage me!

No worries about so many questions, SavedByGrace! This is a contest so only one person will get the Scripture Stickies pack this month. but you can always order it with the Memverse discounts and maybe if you don't win this time you will win another time. Of course sharing your address on the blog is not recommended. :) If you win we will be in contact by email and you can send your address privately to me.

Glad you like the 100 scripture stickies for $10, BibleBeeJunior11!

I hope to meet many of you at Nationals next week- I am getting very excited about the time there!

Hi Julie, I admire on how you use your ministry to promote memverse through contests, freebies and discounts! It's amazing as well as exciting! I pray that God would continue bless you and your ministry as He used you all for His glory alone! I'm from the Philippines, is the contest available here? Nah, just kidding! It's ok even if that contest is not applicable here, just knowing what you did for God's glory is inspiring enough! Please pray that we could promote scripture memorization here also! God bless and bless God even more!

Hi Sarah Kay! Thank you for the encouraging note! Sorry but the contest is just the USA (for now that is....we will be in prayer about how to make Scripture Stickies more international - I love that idea!!!). We just got back from the National Bible Bee here and I was so blessed to be a part of it and meet many of the people here on Memverse. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered and attended! God bless you!

Of the passages listed above, I've been especially blessed and challenged by Luke 2:17-20 this month.

"When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told."

When the shepherds had seen him they spread the word. They had great news, which they naturally wanted to share with others. Sharing was a logical result of what they had witnessed. I have experienced Christ in my life too, so I should be spreading the word, sharing the greatest news with whomever God places in my path.

I like the different reactions listed: amazement, treasuring, pondering, glorifying, and praising. God is worthy of all our amazement, glory, and praise as we ponder the treasure of who He is and what He does for us.

For the Christmas verse contest, I like Isaiah 9:6 just because of the 'propheticness' of the verse. It really shows God's power and sovereignty when prophecies made over a thousand years in advance come to pass.

Great to see so much participation in the November contest of the month and read everyone's thoughts on those awesome Christmas verses. My favorite of the list would also be ISAIAH 9:6. How great is it that God gave Isaiah a vision of what He was planning in our future Savior!! I also love all the names of God through which we can know and praise Him!!

The new DECEMBER "exclusively for Memverse members" contest is up and ready for entries!!! Also, I want to join Julie and reminding everyone that you have one more month to join the open to the public 2011 Scripture Stickies contest. (Rumor has it that several Memverse members have already entered this and won for their state, but some states are still open and looking for a winner.)

Thank you to everyone who shared their favorite verse from the Christmas Scripture Stickies pack this month!

And the winner is.....Mommy'sHelper! Congratulations! Please contact me at info@scripturestickies.com to give me your address and preferred version of the Bible and we can send your prize- a free pack of Christmas Scripture Stickies.

If you didn't win you can always go to the website www.scripturestickies.com and order the pack. You might also want to check out our Advent Calendar pack where you can work on memorizing some Proverbs while you count down to Christmas. Or design a Scripture Stickies Christmas card insert to send to your friends and family this Christmas. Lots of fun ideas!

And now I would like to announce our new monthly contest for Memverse. Respond to this blog post with an answer to the following question: "Have you ever chosen a Bible verse for the new year? Made your New Year's Resolution straight from Scripture? If so, please share. If not, consider doing this and explain which verse in the Bible you would choose." The winner this month will receive a free pack of "Happy New Year" Scripture Stickies.

For those of you who have not yet entered the general contest we have on our website, you have only one month left to do that. We are giving 100 free Scripture Stickies to people in every state and so far we have only had winners in 1/5th of the country! So there is a good chance your state has not been represented. Check it out and enter today.

Scripture Stickies make great Christmas presents and stocking stuffers! As a Memverse user you have access to special coupons and discounts so be sure to take advantage of that and order some Scripture Stickies so you can share the Word this Christmas!

With the next contest, will there be a new post, or will we have to comment on this one? I know there are some people who can delete all these comments, and then we could post new ones.

Thank you so much!

Congratulations, Mommy's Helper! For December's contest, I would like to submit Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven." This is one of the verses that I would like to "live out" this year, and the rest of the years to come.

Also, are we allowed to enter more than one contest? Will I be able to do this again next month? Thank you for doing this, Julie Alvarez! :)

AstroLeah, I love your verse of the year. May we all live that out!

My verse for 2012 is JAMES 5:16 "Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

As a brand new Dad (my wife Jacky is pregnant with our first child) and as one leading our family into radical full-time ministry a few thousand miles from home, I want a powerful and effective prayer life in 2012. Jacky and I will also be memorizing the OT verses on Elijah as JAMES goes on to encourage us to have Elijah's kind of faith.

Julie, I love your idea for a new contest and am looking forward to see what others have picked or will pick as a verse of the year. Thanks for doing this.

We will keep this blog page with updates every new contest and other messages that Julie may have for us. I just updated the page with all the past Scripture Stickies winners.

I guess I'll post my verse for 2012 here:

"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." 1 Corinthians 13:11 (ESV)

I'm not am man, but I want to be prepared to be one. Maybe in two years I can go to college! (People used to go to college when they were thirteen, right?) I might be just kidding - wait! Am I reasoning like a child?

I have never picked a verse for any year before - primarily because I haven't read the whole Bible! I'm pretty sure that by 2012 I will have...

I'll also pick a verse for every month - I might not post them here, though. For January it would be:

"Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day." Psalm 119:97 (ESV)

I hope to begin meditating on God's Word much more often than I have been -- with His help.

@Mr. Walker: Congratulations! I hope the "Elijah Project" works well!

Thanks again, Mrs. Alvarez, for adding this fun contest to MemVerse. I've never done the "verse of the year" thing, but... hmmm... I'd probably pick Psalm 121:8.

The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Of course, if I was allowed to, I'd do Genesis 1:1-Revelation 22:21 (the entire Bible), but it's so much easier just to do the one I posted above.

Great verses everyone! I haven't chosen one yet for this year but last year the Lord led me to Romans 12:12: 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. It is cool to choose a Bible verse as a New Year's resolution because people are always asking- did you make any New Year's resolutions and it is the perfect time to share the Word!! It happened to me several times.

My verse(s) for the year is Ephesians 3:4-6, which in ESV says:
When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
I just love how this says that, although the gospel was not made known to people in the Old testament times, we, even as gentiles, can partake in the promise of Christ through the gospel. We are very fortunate to be fellow heirs with christ.

Hello,
I think I am the first to enter from Minnesota, so I will tell you what I would do. I think I would give out several christmas gifts of about 15 or 20 stickies to people at my church, and I think I would keep about 30 of them for myself or my family.

Great verses everyone! Anyone else out there have a verse for 2012? Or even on that you have used in the past as a New Year's Resolution? Let us know and be entered to win!!

Also just to clarify, the contest about sharing the Scripture Stickies in your state is something you need to enter on our website www.scripturestickies.com - it is open to the public, not just Memverse users so we can't take your entry for that here. Come to our site and enter that one!

My verse for 2012 is Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

God has been impressing on me lately how he wants all of me, every part of my heart. And this verse really speaks to me about that. It is no longer me, but Christ! And that is good news.

New Year's Resolution (or Goal) 2012:

Philippians 4:12
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

I picked this as my New Year's goal for 2012 because so many people are never content, always thinking they have to have this thing, then that thing, etc.

Sorry I'm late to post this, but I would like to put my verse of the year here too.
My verse is Psalm 104:34.
"May my meditation be pleasing to Him, as I rejoice in the Lord."

This verse reminds me to keep my meditation pure before the Lord and to always rejoice in the Lord.
Another verse that helps me with this is Psalm 19:14.
"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."

Did anyone else have trouble choosing only one verse? I know I did!

There are so many wonderful verses in the Bible about love! One of my favorites is Psalm 119:47-48: "And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate in thy statutes." I have memorized these verses, and they are also special to me because I recited them from memory at our church. :)

God's Maiden of Virtue

AstroLeah- God's love for us is so great! My favorite passage on love is 1 Corinthians 13. I can't write it all down here, but I'm sure that you know most of it. Here are just a few verses from the chapter.
"If I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbol." (1 Cor. 13:1)

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." (1 Cor. 13:4-5)

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13)
1 Corinthians 13:1 is my favorite verse in the chapter because it reminds me that if I do not have love, then I am just like a gong or a cymbol.

2 Corinthians 5:17

One of my favorite verses about God' love....I have two that I can't decide which to choose!

The one I'll choose for the contest is

1 John 4:10 - Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us; and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. KJV.

I memorized this verse last year in the National Bible Bee. It was such a blessing to me as I thought about God's love. Also, when we studied the 4 types of love, he had the GREATEST love, so much so that he DIED FOR US!!!!!!! That is just amazing to me. Praise the LORD for his wonderful salvation!

but then I really like this one too :) The one above is the one for the contest ;)
The verse ....is John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

So amazing. Thank you Lord for saving MY soul!

Rachel- Amen to that! It is so amazing that God would save my sinful, wicked soul, by allowing His HOLY and RIGHTEOUS Son to suffer on the cross! The Lord is so gracious. And even as Christians, we deserve nothing but endless torment in Hell.

I agree that John 3:16 is a great verse. We should always give thanks to the Lord for bringing us out of darkness. He is SO good. And His love endures forever.(Psalm 136:1 and Psalm 118:1).

John 14:21 Is my favorite verse about God's love:

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” [ESV]
I've been thinking about this verse, so I'll add my thoughts:
Whoever has my commandments
I think this certainly includes memorization. Psalm 119:11, 97
and keeps them,
It is not enough to read, hear and know the word, (Rev. 1:3) but we must keep it. Romans 6:1-2: What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? We will not continue in sin if we are truly saved. We will sin, yes, but if we love sin, we were never saved in the first place, and have false assurance.
he it is who loves me.
If we know and keep the law, we will necessarily love God. Why would we know and keep the law if we didn't love God?
And he who loves me will be loved by my Father,
If we love our savior, we love his and our Father. John 14:23 The Father will also love us, for we have been adopted into his family.
and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
If we know and keep the law, not only will God the Father love us, but also the Son! In a way, we are his siblings. Matthew 12:50 We will also be taken to heaven, where we will live with him forever!
I do not have it memorized - but I will add it to my list of memory verses for tomorrow.

God's Maiden of Virtue

InSoloChristo- That is a great verse on love! We learn so much from it.

Romans 12:9-21 is another one of my favorites. Here are some of the verses from the passage:

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." (Romans 12:9)
This verse helps us remember that our love toward each other is to be sincere, or honest. We need to desire to do what is good, and hate evil. Because if we hate evil, then we love what is good.

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves." (Romans 12:10).
This verse tells us that we are to be devoted, or have an affection for each other in brotherly love. And we are to honor, or respect one another above ourselves.

"Do not repay evil for evil." (Romans 12:17a). "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21). These verses tell us not to be overcome by evil or to repay evil for evil. Meaning, we not to show revenge toward those who do evil to us. But instead, we are to show love to them by repaying them with good.

Mrs. Alvarez- I would like to enter Romans 5:8 into the February contest.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NIV)
I have it memorized off of MemVerse, but it will not be memorized on MemVerse until the beginning of March. Does that still count?
Thank you!

@Rosie: Yes. I actually just discovered that is one of the NTOYC verses too!
Two other verses I really love about God's love (But not entries):

Psalm 136:2
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
God is the God of gods - why? For his steadfast love endures forever. No other "god" loves anyone!
And this verse, perhaps more pertinent to our day and age:
Psalm 136:26
Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
God is the God of heaven - why? For his steadfast love endures forever. Heaven doesn't love us! Earth doesn't love us! Some people in this era believe we should thank "Mother Nature". Why? For one thing, saying "Mother Nature" is a fallacy called reification... But much more importantly, "she" doesn't love us! Rather give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures - how long? Forever!

God's Maiden of Virtue

InSoloChristo- I'm learning Psalm 136. I should be memorizing it really soon.

Amen! We are to always give thanks to the Lord for His great love and grace towards us.
Psalm 118:1 says the same thing as Psalm 136:1.
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever."

Psalm 136 is such a wonderful chapter about God's love!
Psalm 107:1 says the same thing too.

Psalm 100:5 says:
"For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations."
You can see that there are many verses from the Bible that talk about God's forever enduring love.

There are also many verses that talk about God's unfailing love. Here are a couple:
"Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation." (Psalm 85:7)
Psalm 85 is a chapter of the sons of Korah. They are asking the Lord to show His unfailing, or never failing love to them and to give them salvation.

"Let Your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love." (Psalm 31:16)
Psalm 31 is the dedication of the temple that David built. In this verse, David is praying that God would shine His face on him and that He would, in His unfailing love, save him.

We learn so much from and about God's love! His love is SO much greater and powerful than our love could ever be!

EDIT: Wow! That is the longest comment I have ever made!

Great to see everyone's Scriptures about God's love. Isaiah 41:10, I think you might mean 3:1.

A favorite that has been on my mind a lot since being married is 1 Corin 13:1-3. It is amazing how love trumps everything. May we fight our flesh, our culture, and sometimes the encouragement of our Christian culture to be a selfish, temporal thinker; and radically follow our Savior in living for eternity and loving others as we love ourselves.

Congratulations Erika Wenzel! How exciting for you!

Mrs. Alvarez- I would like to submit John 11:25 (NKJV) into the March contest.
Jesus said to her "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he will live."

This is my favorite verse on the resurrection of Jesus because He tells us that He is the resurrection, He is the life. Christ is the one who gives us life, and even if we die, we will live. For we are alive in Christ. "Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:11) "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive." (1 Cor. 15:22)

2 Corinthians 5:17

Congrats Erika! :)

I would like to submit this passage for the contest... Matthew 28:2-9

And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

I know it is a long passage, but it is so amazing to me. THIS is the moment in time, when Jesus, my Savior, ROSE AGAIN!!!!! That I might live! Praise him for his great love.

My Father and almost 12 year old brother recently took at trip to Israel, and visited SO many places where our Lord walked, talked, taught, and visited the place where he was crucified and where he rose again! (the supposed sites...but they fit the Biblical description) They took a lot of pictures. Would anyone like me to put the picture of the place where Jesus was crucified and where he rose again as my picture? :)

I would like to enter Romans 1:1-6:

"Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,"
I love this passage because:
First of all, it mentions being set apart for the gospel, (meaning devoted and converted to it). Then, it says that the gospel was "promised beforehand [and, here it is! God is faithful!] through his prophets in the holy Scriptures". Then it gives a beautiful description of what the gospel is about: "concerning his Son" the gospel centers around Christ, God's Son. We cannot devise good news, for we are wretched sinners. Therefore the gospel concerns God's Son, and was promised beforehand by God. Then it underscores Christ's humanity: Christ "was descended from David according to the flesh", so he was and is indeed human, and therefore liable to temptation. But later also: Christ "was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness [The Holy Spirit]". Now we come to the resurrection part: "by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord". The gospel is the gospel because of Christ, and we know Christ is the Son of God because of His resurrection. The gospel centers around Christ dying for us, and rising, in order to conquer death, that we might live. And the rest of the verse is just as wonderful.

2 Corinthians 5:13-15

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)
13 If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

It reminds me that I am to live wholly for Christ and not for myself.
I have memorized this passage

@Rachel - yes, he did! He was even baptized in the Jordan River!

My entry is Romans 6:8-11.
Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

It is so awesome to think about that Jesus died so that we could be alive in Him. And even though he died, he is now alive forever!

My profile picture is now of Golgotha, the place where Jesus died. Do you see the skull? There is a parking lot below, but I had to crop it out for the profile. Their guide said that Jesus was crucified either at the top or somewhere in where the parking lot is now. I'll do the burial place later :)

Anna Mieczkowski

I would like to enter Romans 6:8-11 (NASB):

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

There are a few things from this passage that really speak to me. First, we do not have to fear death, because for us, that means eternal life WITH HIM!! What a comforting thought. Secondly, the passage tells us that, since we are to be dead to sin, we are to live to God. There is no one better to live for! Give him your all!

Anna Mieczkowski

Ironically enough (I should say, providentially) I heard a sermon about this very passage yesterday. One thing that I took away from the sermon was that we as believers have a union with one who has NEVER even been affected by sin. What comfort and joy this should give us.

Congratulations Anna Mieczkowski - you are the March winner. Please email me at info@scripturestickies.com to claim your free Scripture Stickies. Thank you to everyone who shared their favorite resurrection verses!

For April I have a fun contest for you all. We are in the process of designing a new line of Scripture Stickies that are like handwritten little notes from God to you based on Bible verses. For example we have one that says: Take heart for I have overcome. Love, Jesus. These Biblical messages are a great encouragement and fun to have around. For this month's contest we want to hear what short sweet message based on the Word you would like to have posted on your desk or bedside. Here's another example: You can do all things through me. Love, Christ who gives you strength

So share your ideas and one winner will receive a pack of these new Scripture Stickies!

"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand" Love, God. ~Based on Isaiah 41:10

This verse is full of comfort and encouragement; to be reminded that God is with us and that He will help and strengthen us is such a blessing! It grows my desire to love and serve Him more.

What beautiful notes from the Lord to us all! That is how His Word works- He talks to us directly through it!

Thank you everyone who shared your ideas. To find out if you are a winner this month go to the Scripture Stickies website and check out our new "personal notes" pack on the shop page. If you find a verse in that pack that is based on the same Scripture reference that you suggested then you win! Email me at info@scripturestickies.com and I will send you a free pack of the "personal notes" Scripture Stickies.

And now for our June contest.....

At Scripture Stickies we offer packs on many different themes but one of our most popular ideas is the custom pack where you tell us which verses you want included and we make it just for you. For this contest design your own custom pack. What would you call it (the verses don't have to adhere to a theme, title could simply be your name) and which verses would you include (write them out in full here)? Winner will receive their own custom pack with the verses they chose.

We started Scripture Stickies with the Don't Worry pack and that would be my custom pack so as to constantly remind me to put my hope in the Lord and not entertain any worries!

Title: Don't Worry
Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? -Luke 12:24-26

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. -1 Peter 5:6-7

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” -John 14:1-4

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. -Matthew 6:33-34

I look forward to reading all of your ideas and favorite verses!

Dear Julie and everyone who has been enjoying these contests and encouragements from Scripture Stickies, please forgive me for not updating this page until over half way into June.

The June contest looks very exciting. What would be your custom made perfect set of 5 Scriptures you would love to have as Scripture Stickies (either as a theme or simply great individual verses or passages you love.)

My entry will be God's provision with my packet including:

PROVERBS 11:24-25 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly and comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

ROMANS 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Himself up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things.

LUKE 6:38 Give and it will be given to you, a good measure poured out, pressed down, and shaken together will be poured into your lap.

PHILIPPIANS 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

MATTHEW 7:7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

with a 2nd God's provision pack consisting of 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-8; GENESIS 22:14; 1 KINGS 17:6; MATTHEW 6:33 - 34; and MATTHEW 7:11.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT YOU CAN ORDER YOUR BIBLE BEE SCRIPTURE STICKIES from the Bible Bee at http://store.biblebee.org/products/2012-Scripture-Stickies.html

I would chose:
Ezekiel 36:23-27:
23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been
profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among
them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares
the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you
before their eyes. 24 “’For I will take you out of the nations; I will
gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your
own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be
clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your
idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I
will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of
flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my
decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
2 Peter 3:3-9:
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will
come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say,
“Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died,
everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they
deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and
the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also
the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word
the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the
day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 But do not forget
this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping
his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not
wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Galatians 1:11-17:
11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not
something that man made up. 12 I did not receive it from any man,
nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus
Christ. 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism,
how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy
it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age
and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But
when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace,
was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him
among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, 17 nor did I go up to
Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went
immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.
Hebrews 4:4-10:
4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these
words: “And on the seventh day God rested from all his work.”
5 And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my
rest.” 6 It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who
formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of
their disobedience. 7 Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it
Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said
before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken
later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the
people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his
own work, just as God did from his.
2 Timothy 1:2-7
2 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God
the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I
serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night
and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling
your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I
have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in
your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am
persuaded, now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to
fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying
on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a
spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Isaac, usually the winners are picked at the end of the month. However, with me being late putting up the June contest, Julie might switch it for this month. I am curious why you picked your 5. Is there a theme? My favorite from your list is 2 PETER 3:3-9, however, I also love 2 TIMOTHY 1:7

Yes, Rachel, I believe if you include a verse or two from the passages Isaac or anyone picked that would be fine. No one has a monopoly on the verses they chose for their personal pack. Do you have a theme for your list?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the update Phil. Let's run this for June/July to give everyone enough time to submit their ideas.

Yes you can submit the same verses if they are part of your pack idea. No worries!

I enjoyed reading your verses so far and I look forward to seeing more entries for this contest. :)

Here are some from the Bright Lights set 6 memory pack. I hope to share these with the BL group that meets at a friend's house with most of the girls being from our church. (their BL group uses KJV so that is the version posted here):

Titus 2:4-5
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

1 Corinthians 14:33
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:40
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

Matthew 10:42
42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Malachi 4:6
6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Proverbs 22:29
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean (ordinary) men.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

1 Peter 5:5
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Here's my entry that I would title "Witnessing":

Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Romans 10:14
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

I would call this set "God's Righteousness":

Romans 3:23-26
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Psalm 71:15-16
15My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. 16With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

Psalm 116:5
5Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.

Isaiah 5:15-16
15Man is humbled, and each one is brought low, and the eyes of the haughty are brought low. 16But the LORD of hosts is exalted in justice, and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21
21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

I would call my entry "I am not ashamed!" (in KJV)

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us

Psalm 25:2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Great to see the verses in the "I am not ashamed"; the "God's Righteousness"; the "Witnessing" and the "Bright Lights" packs. God's Word is so powerful and delightful. Thanks, Lord, for giving us these truths to build our lives on.

Thanks, Julie, for these contests that help us think about the Scripture. And thanks even more for making Scripture Stickies to help us treasure Scripture and share Scripture with friends for them to enjoy, memorize, and treasure.

Today is the last day for the June/July contest. Anybody else going to add in a packet before the 11:59pm (Hawaii time) deadline?

God's Maiden of Virtue

I would call my entry, "Meditation".

Psalm 119:15-16 "I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word."

Psalm 119:97 "Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day."

Psalm 145:5 "I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works."

Psalm 1:2 "But His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law He meditates day and night."

Psalm 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

Psalm 104:34 "May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the Lord."

The Lord has really been reminding me lately to keep my meditation pure and wholesome. I want my meditation to be sweet to Him, just like Psalm 104:34 says.

I have one of my favorite verses (1 Peter 5:10) posted on a mirror in my room so that I can see it every morning and be reminded of its message.

It seems that most of the comments on this page are italicized. I tried to fix it by typing < / i > (without the spaces) but it didn't work. Maybe if God's Maiden of Virtue can edit her comment above and put an "end italics" HTML code at the end, it will solve the problem.

This might sound a little silly, but I really like to write verses on my hand - it's always there when you need it (except for if you wash your hands to many times....:P)

I will also post them on the mirror in our bathroom while I'm working my chores, beside the sink when I'm washing dishes, or write it on a 3 x 5 card to put in my pocket and carry with me.

I like to post verses around my bed so that I can see them whenever I am in my room. The verses are usually ones that apply to something that I am learning or that I think will be encouraging later, and I can think about them while working on homework, reading, or resting. Examples: Dan. 4:35 to show that God is in control of any circumstance; Col. 3:22-24 when I am tempted to complain about an authority; a passage from Psalms just to remember to praise God!

(Another idea: My sister likes to make screen savers for her computer from verses she is trying to memorize. She uses PowerPoint slides to illustrate each verse or phrase.)

Hmm. GMOV, all of the comments are still italic for me. I think you misunderstood what I said, because I checked the source of this page and saw that you didn't put the "end italics" code on the post I meant for you to. I meant for you to edit the comment waaaay up there that begins with "AmyV- That is one of my favorite verses on love too." It looks like you accidentally put a "begin italics" code at the end of that comment, not a "end italics" code. I knew that it needed to be you because your comment was the last one that had anything but italics in it.

Great ideas on places to post Scripture everyone -thanks! The winner this month is Eunice Sophia (please email me at info@scripturestickies.com with your mailing address and preferred version of the Bible and I will send you a free pack of Scripture Stickies). Congrats!

For October's contest I would love to hear what verse or Bible story God has recently been using in your life and how.

Mrs. Alvarez, did you mean to say September's contest, instead of October's contest? Maybe that's the reason nobody has entered...
One passage that God has used in my life lately is Jeremiah 9:23-24. I just recently memorized it for the National Bible Bee and instantly knew that it would become one of my favorite verses. It says "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD." God has used this verse to remind me not to boast in anything I am or I've done, but always to boast in what He is and does. Like the song by Casting Crowns that says "Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done. Not because of what I've done, but because of Who You are."

Oops I did mean September - thanks for catching my error! Your verse reminds me of the fact that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Psalm 86:11-13
"Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your mercy toward me, and You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol."

The Lord has been teaching me a lot through this passage lately. I have grown to love this passage so much- it is very encouraging to me!

Provided the contest continues into October, (if it doesn't, two-fifths of the contestants will be disqualified :P) here's my 'entry':
Job 1:21:
And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."
I have not lost anything when compared to Job, (or a lot of people), but this verse has taught, or else, built up my submission to the Will. I could not complain unless I were cast to hell - and then I should only mourn that Christ suffered unnecessarily!

By the way, if two-fifths of those who entered are left out - let us together bless the name of the Self-Existent!

Congratulations, Eunice on being the August winner and our first winner from outside the USA. My entry for the Sept/Oct contest is the familiar David and Goliath story. One of the students here painted a giant picture of David approaching Goliath on our wall. I am embarrassed and saddened by the many times I am intimidated by problems or challenges in my life that are much smaller than a 9 foot giant wanting to kill me. Lord, I pray that you will give me and my family the courage and faith you gave David . Enjoying reading Scripture others are thinking about.

Thanks Phil. In fact I was delighted to see this gift that has traveled so far to reach me. This gift packed with God's Word reminded me of the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus,The Word who came from heaven to the earth.
My entry: Luke 10:39-42.39 Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Lord has been teaching me that it is 'that good part' which needs attention and not things which seem to worry me a lot: be it which disappoint, worry, distract me like Martha, 'who was cumbered about much serving' from seeing His glorious face and to learn of Him. Then everything else will get easier to handle. Also, not to fear that i may fall but just trust like a child, because underneath are His everlasting arms.
This made me remember the chorus my grandma taught me long back,
Turn your eyes upon Jesus Look full on His wonderful face And the things of the earth will grow strangely dim In the light of His glory and grace.

PS. Just liked to share mine though not into contest as I was encouraged by The Word in other entries.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. And
Colossians 3:22-24
22 Slaves obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ..
2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

The first and last ones remind me that God has plans for me in my life. The second one reminds me to work for the Lord with a full heart. The third one tell me that I AM a new creation. I like thinking of a butterfly. It begins as a caterpillar, but then turns into a butterfly as a new creation.(My name came from 2 Corinthians 5:17)

I really hate to spoil this, but the first passage you chose, Jeremiah 29:11-13, was written to Israel while it was in exile, not to us Christians. God's plans in that verse were referring only to His plans to prosper Israel, not to prosper us. God may prosper us, but that really has nothing to do with those verses. What God has promised us is that we will be persecuted if we truly are His. Really sorry to correct that, but I felt that I had to.

SBG - I agree that Jeremiah was talking to Jews in exile. IaNC only said, however, that the verse reminded him/her that God has a plan for one's life.

Surely if God had a plan for his people in the time of Jeremiah we can infer that he has a plan for us now? I would suggest that there is more continuity than frequently admitted. We prosper spiritually today precisely because of God's plan for the Jews in exile. Where would we be were it not for the remnant God gathered to himself?

Second, the promises of persecution were given to 1st C Jews on a hillside and to early churches under threat from Rome; but we have no hesitation in applying the principle to us today. A line drawn from the 21C church back through a sermon on a Capernaum hillside would likely intersect the prophet Jeremiah. Prosperity and persecution have always been part of God's plan.

@SBG Though I agree with what you said, I do want to point out some things. Those verses were written to the Israelites, but in other places in the bible, it does say that God has plans for our life, and that his plans are good. Second, in Philippians 4:13, Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Does that mean that we can't do all things through Christ, or that Christ only strengthens Paul and not us? I understand that this is not the best place to discuss something like this. If you want to discuss this further, could we create a topic under the "Theology Discussions" forum?
